Hell was very different than Heaven, that was the first thing that Adam noticed when he descended down the elevator to the other realm.
Heaven was segmented into three pieces. One of them was a winding, neverending neighborhood full of houses that had small gardens and all looked basically the same. The angels lived there, with the ones that were closest to God living in the direct center in the most luxurious of the houses. The second part was where the souls that God had favored enough to bring to his place of eternal happiness lived. They had shaped it into looking like any other city on earth did, with massive skyscrapers made out of silver metal and blue glass. There were posters advertising the businesses that a few of the saints had created, but most of them were boring things like spas and resorts. The third realm was where the Saints, people that had gained enough favor with God to have as much trust with him as the Seraphim did, lived. They were different than the saints, the souls that were close enough to God to come to paradise, but somehow they were still called the same thing. Heaven didn’t have seasons, it maintained a steady temperature that was as comfortable as it could be for the most amount of people. The plants were all the same manicured, pastel versions of themselves that they would have been on earth.
Hell was nothing like that. Adam had only been able to see the first ring since he didn’t have the passport that would have let him descend lower and further into Hell, but it was already enough of a culture shock to make him temporarily forget his worries. The inside of the Heaven embassy had looked exactly like it had when he was at the top of the elevator instead of the bottom of it, which had given him quite the fright when he had stepped out. As soon as he found the door and let himself out, he was wowed by the place that he found himself in.
Pride had a red sky, the kind that only appeared on earth when the sky was so saturated with smoke that the sun had to reflect a different color to be able to light up the world. There was somehow a sun and moon in the sky, blaring down on the town that the embassy was held in. The plants were somewhat reminiscent of what had been on earth, but quite a few of them looked like things that he had seen in the Garden back when the Morningstar used to come down and visit him. The streets were laid out in a way that was rather haphazard, but the blocks and signs to where he was supposed to be going were fairly clear. Instead of all the architecture looking the same, buildings had sprouted up next to each other at different times and had been made by different people. The normal skyscrapers littered the landscape, but there was also a hype-modern building with a flashy sign on the top, several Painted Ladies, and even an art-deco American-Italian villa that he passed while walking down the seventh wrong block.
The people were far more varied in Hell too. In Heaven, individuals appeared ni the perfect form that they saw themselves in. Some would be in their teenage bodies, others would be elderly or middle aged if that’s when they found God or were the most comfortable. Some would have wounds that they sustained while in battle or through illness, but most of them would gain back what they had lost during their lives. People here were almost completely different, they had horns, tails, talons, beaks, and were almost any size and color possible.
Adam felt incredibly out of place and was very glad that he had brought the mask he used when he was performing. It wasn’t that he was too famous to walk around Heaven, the saints and Saints alike knew better than to come up to the more famous figures from the Bible and try to accost them, but it made him more comfortable than being stared at from all angles. When he was in Hell, it apparently made him blend in better than he would have if he had forgone it and looked remarkably human.
He walked through the streets without a single person turning to look at him. He supposed that in Hell, where things were more dangerous because there wasn’t always the constant threat of Divine observation, people were less likely to try and interact with each other and just kept to themselves. It was nice to experience that after being overwhelmed by people for millennia.
The Morningstar Palace was the destination that he had picked for himself, identifiable as the tallest building outside of the embassy that reached towards the false sky of Pride. The outside facade was a deep shade of purple and the towers reached towards the sky in long spikes. It had no visible windows, but he was sure that there was some kind of magic that let light inside the rooms within. The outside was surrounded by a massive wrought iron fence that allowed onlookers to peer into the garden kept by the royal family but forbade them from entering.
Adam walked up to the gate and fiddled with the lock before he nearly jumped out of his skin. A small being with red skin, two large black and white striped horns, and white hair, had appeared in front of him. “Can I help you?” they asked.
“Uh, yeah, I wanted to talk to the big D himself. Luci,” he pointed towards the palace with a rather crude jut of his chin. It was weird to think about Lucifer being the top dog in Hell instead of God, since he was so used to the Heavenly Father controlling almost every single part of his life.
“Do you have an appointment?” the small being asked. Their eyes were half lidded as they pulled out a tablet and began to flick through it. The technology in Heaven had a couple of special fruit-related markings to say which of the saints had created it, but this one had a very prominent V on the back of it.
Adam allowed himself to wonder who was in control of the technology down in Hell for only a moment before he realized that he actually needed to answer the question that had been asked of him. “I don’t. Do you really need a fucking meeting to get to talk to this guy? He’s got no one lined up outside or anything.”
“The King has a lot of tasks that he has to accomplish everyday to keep Hell running smoothly. I understand that new sinners do not understand this, but it’s the truth. If you want an audience with the King then you’re going to have to schedule a meeting and follow the rules that we will send to you,” the being replied. They turned off the screen of the tablet and then tucked it next to their body as they prepared to go back to the little guardhouse next to the gates.
“I’m not a sinner,” Adam blurted. He turned his head left and right to try and make sure that no one was close enough to hear him. For some reason, the other beings that occupied Hell were steering very clear of the palace. Adam felt his stomach dip in something that was more than the nausea that had been plaguing him for the last month. He had never even stopped to think that perhaps Lucifer wasn’t the person that he had remembered, that perhaps he was just as cruel and sadistic as the Bible had made him out to be. That wasn’t the angel that had visited him and Lilith when they were in the Garden, it wasn’t even the angel that had offered Eve a bite of the fruit that had allowed her to be free.
“What are you, then?” the attendant asked. It was clear that they were beginning to get sick of this whole matter, but Adam was desperate.
He reached up to the edge of his mask, sticking his fingers underneath the cloth on his chin that kept the thing on his face even when he was moving around. He removed it, tilting the static piece onto the top of his head so that he could pull it down as soon as the interaction was over. “My name is Adam, I’m the First Man and I need to speak to Lucifer.”
The being’s eyes went wide before they looked back down to the black screen of their tablet and then to Adam. “Are… are you sure that you want to speak to Lucifer and not Lilith? We only have a protocol for the second, I don’t know what to do,” the being said. They were clearly panicking, which would have made Adam feel bad if he had not been so stressed about the matter at hand. He needed to get into the palace and talk with Lucifer, something bad might happen to him if he wasn’t given protection by the Devil.
“I want to speak with Lucifer. Is my ex-wife in there?” Adam asked, wrinkling his nose a bit at the thought. When they were together, Lilith was always trying to escape the Garden into the greater desert around it despite the danger that they both knew lay out there. Adam had only ever tried to control her when it came to their safety because he was absolutely terrified of what God and the angels might do to them if they did something wrong. Lilith had thought that he was stupid for that fear and just trying to control her in all things, which was why she had rebelled so hard against him.
“No, she’s not. The Queen lives in her own residence down in Lust,” the being replied. “I think I should just let you in, I don’t get paid enough to deal with this kind of shit.”
The pulled a key out of their pocket and then stuck it into the lock on their side of the gate. When it opened. Adam pulled his mask back down over his face and stepped through. He waited for the attendant to lock the gate behind him before he started off towards the obvious front doors of the palace. The attendant hurried in front of him so that they could lead the way and open the doors once they reached there.
The green around the palace was substantive. It stretched for almost half a city block in all directions instead of having a massive garden out of the back of the palace like they had done so frequently on earth. Adam enjoyed being able to see it up close, he had always been incredibly fond of plants and what humans had done with them after he had gone to Heaven. This was a bit different, but it still felt the same in a lot of ways. It reminded him a bit of Eden, the way that the fruit trees were clustered together around little ponds and water features so that ducks and other birds could have a place to bathe themselves after eating the fruit that had fallen to the ground. The neatly trimmed bushes lined the walkways and flowers ran rampant amongst the wavering grasses.
When they reached the inside of the palace, he felt as though everything was finally crashing down on him. Despite the long journey that he had taken in the elevator to get to Hell and the ordeal he had gone through to get to the elevator in the first place, it hadn’t felt quite real at that point. Now he was actively walking down the dark purple and red hallways to where Lucifer was waiting.
He expected to be led into some grand audience chamber where he would have to bow and kneel in front of the man that had once been his friend. Instead, he was met with a delicately decorated parlor. The walls were a chipper blue color, the same shade as the sky right after a heavy rainstorm that had gotten all the smog out of the air. There was a near-black hardwood floor that contrasted well with the tile that lined the hallway outside. A rug was pinned down by a brown coffee table that was laden with a pot of tea, three teacups and their saucers, and more treats than Adam had seen in a long time. In Heaven, it was considered gluttonous to eat more than strictly necessary and treats were something that they were only permitted around holidays that celebrated God and Christ specifically.
“Welcome, old friend!” Lucifer said as he rose and extended his arms out towards Adam.
“Ah, no thanks, man. I’m not really big on the whole touching thing anymore,” Adam said. People in Heaven were far too touchy for his liking, he had to bat away about a thousand hugs every day just so that he was allowed to go about his business as he liked. It was nice to be able to reject them here without people looking at him like he had grown another head.
“That’s alright. It has been ten thousand years since the two of us last interacted, hasn’t it?” Lucifer asked. He sat down on the couch and then motioned for the First Man to do the same. He picked up his teacup and that was when Adam noticed the first thing about him that was different from when he had last seen the Morningstar in Heaven. The edges of his hands, all the way up to where his sleeves were rolled up at his mid-forearm, were stained black. His fingers were also curved down into talons at the end. Both looked oddly natural on him, despite the memories that Adam had from the last time that they seriously interacted with each other.
Adam sat down on the chair across from Lucifer, picking up a cup of tea himself. The taste was strange, like too much cinnamon had been added to a peach. He’d never had that kind of tea before, but he supposed that he should have counted on Hell having different plants (and likely animals) than both Heaven and earth had. “It’s good to see that you’re doing well for yourself. Couple of the angels in Heaven speculated that you were being tortured all the fucking time as penance for what you did to God,” Adam said. It was easier than explaining the real reason why he had come down there before he was prompted to do so.
Lucifer laughed, a giddy rich noise that was almost too boisterous and a little forced. “There’s nothing down here that could torture me. I’m more powerful than anything that has the ability to hate me. The deities that ruled over this place before I arrived favor me, they give me all my power and protect me above all else. I’m surprised that they let you in, given that you’re a part of Heaven.”
“Can things from Heaven not come down here?” Adam asked. There was an elevator that allowed people from heaven to go down and have meeting with Hell, he had seen people use it and that was how he knew that it was an option to get out of his little predicament.
“True beings in Heaven cannot step foot onto the soil, they always send down those stupid holograms,” Lucifer rolled his eyes. “I’m not sure that a human occupant of Heaven can come down to Hell or whether they’d be able to leave. Despite what the Bible has said, it’s not so bad down here. As long as you’re not a favorite of God or someone that He wants to punish, you get to make a second life here until you die again.”
Adam blinked. He had only been in Hell for less than an hour and he was already having so much revealed to him that the higher ups in Heaven had hidden from him. Until his fear surrounding his current situation, he had always thought that he had been part of the in crowd, someone that knew everything that was going on and why. It turned out that he was still missing a lot of information, if Lucifer was to be trusted at all. That thought alone made his head hurt, because the entire reason that he was in Hell was to trust and get help from the fallen angel.
“So, what did you come to ask me for?” Lucifer asked.
“What makes you think that I came to you for something?” Adam asked. He didn’t know why he was being cagey about it, he had quite literally come to Lucifer for something.
“Everyone comes to me for something nowadays. My own daughter doesn’t even call to check up on me,” Lucifer sighed. There was a strange sadness in his eyes that Adam had neer seen before, not even when he had caught the fallen angel tempting Eve with the forbidden fruit. He had always had that spark of life hiding behind his colored irises, and now that was completely extinguished.
“That’s pretty fucking rude of her. The reason my brats don’t call me is because they’re all dead,” Adam huffed. He then placed his hands over his stomach and took in another shaky breath. “Well, sort of. That’s what I came to you about. I need to seek refuge or some shit from Heaven.”
“Why is that? Last I heard, you were the new Golden Boy after they tossed me into the pit,” Lucifer bit into a sandwich and chewed, signifying that he was done with that specific sentence and now waiting for Adam to answer him.
The First Man looked down at his hands before he slid his mask off. If he was going to be vulnerable with someone that had been the closest thing he’d ever had to a beloved, he was going to go the entire way. “I sleep around a lot in Heaven. It’s something that is explicitly not allowed, not unless you were married and are doing it with your spouse. There’s some disobeyment of that rule just like there was on earth, and the angels tend to ignore it.”
“Heaven does that. They ignore their problems until they quite literally can’t. It’s what happened with me. I was clearly unhappy and doing things that I shouldn’t have been doing, but it wasn’t until I showed signs of the exact thing that you just fell prey to that they did something about it. So, you need to hide here so that you don’t get punished by Heaven? What, do you not want to fall like I did?” Lucifer asked. The way that he was looking at Adam was like a lion that had just found a gazelle, sharp teeth and even sharper eyes. It made him feel oddly hot under the collar.
“I don’t want them to take the kid away from me. They took Abel by killing him when we didn’t realize that was a thing that could happen, they took Cain by cursing him, I don’t even know what happened to the baby that Eve had before she died,” Adam sighed as he wiped his face with his hands. “I can’t keep losing my family, I’ve gotta keep this baby safe.”
The danger in Lucifer’s face, the expression that was begging for a fight, immediately softened. “I understand. I’ve lost too much of my family to reasonably mourn in one lifetime. You’re welcome to stay here for as long as you need, and that child will always be under the protection of myself and the rest of the High Sin Council. We don’t let bad things happen to others scorned by Heaven,” he explained.
Adam knew that there was going to be a lot more that they had to deal with, logistics that needed to be figured out and minutia that needed to be unraveled. Despite the laundry list of things compiling in the back of his mind, he allowed himself to relax into the surety that he wasn’t going to be losing his child. It wouldn’t be so bad raising a kid with Lucifer anyway.

Nigel insisted. They were going to spend the next seven days alone. The next seven days would be spent stargazing and sleeping late and drinking tea (that Nigel would undoubtedly spike with alcohol because that was just what Nigel did) and enjoying the view as Nigel smoked and watching movies and laying in the hot tub under the stars. And sex. Lots and lots of sex.
They would find out in seven days and four hours whether or not he was pregnant. Adam was excited about this. But this week was about the two of them. Adam was also excited for this.

It took a couple of months before Lucifer was well enough to leave his home. Belphegor and Mammon worked together to help get him the things that he needed while he recovered. They brought him food, usually apples and bits of bread that would fill him up properly, and more nappies for Asmodeus.
As it turned out, there was a steeper learning curve when it came to being a parent than when it came to being pregnant. Lucifer was almost glad that only two of his closest friends had to be around him while he was trying to get Asmodeus settled. He wasn’t sure if he could handle someone as wild and happy as Beelzebub having to see him struggle to change diapers or someone as refined as Sera watching him try to breastfeed.
When he was pregnant, he had to adjust to the way that his body reacted to specific motions or foods, but now there was so much more. Asmodeus didn’t like being put down for a nap if Lucifer wasn’t holding him or singing to him. When he fed, Asmodues liked to dig his little razor sharp nails into the delicate tissue of Lucifer’s breasts to the point where he was worried that they were going to burst like a balloon full of milk. The first couple days of sleep and breastfeeding were the worst as Lucifer was still having contractions to get his uterus back down to the proper shape whenever he fed his son and every time that he began to drift off to sleep, another need had to be met.
He had gotten the rhythm down after two months, though. He knew to eat when Asmodeus was eating and how much water he had to drink to keep himself hydrated. He knew how to get Asmodeus to nap while he worked on his ideas and prototypes so that he had something for the next meeting. He had even invented something completely new that they wouldn’t be able to introduce down on earth until humans themselves came up with it.
Much like he had with his pregnant belly, he took a long piece of cloth and wove it under Asmodeus and around his own body so that he could carry the baby while he was doing other things. It freed up his hands and let his son sleep far more soundly, which was better for both of them.
Preparing to go out for the first time since he’d had his baby was one of the more terrifying things that Lucifer had ever done. It didn’t beat the anxiety that he’d felt while giving birth and it definitely paled in comparison to his first time being called before God to present his ideas, but it still left him with sweaty palms and an upset stomach.
He’d spent the better part of an hour pacing around his room so that he could get things ready for the day. Having a baby came with a lot more stuff than a sling and a newborn. He had to carry extra nappies so that he could change Asmodeus when he soiled his old one, and then a bag to carry the soiled ones in so that they didn’t soak through the rest of the bag and make a bit stink. He also had to carry a blanket and a change of clothes outside of the spit rag that was needed for every time he burped the two-month-old.
As he was packing it all up so that he could leave, he turned to his son and said, “You were a lot easier to carry around when you were in Daddy’s tummy, sweetheart.”
Asmodeus gave him a giggle and kicked his chubby little legs. Lucifer leaned down and kissed his stomach, holding onto the tiny feet so that he could sneak socks onto him. It was hard to keep any clothing on his baby when the angel wanted nothing more than to keep his son against his own bare skin. It was the way that he’d held his baby when Asmodeus was born and it was the way that he wanted to stay forever. It had helped when Lucifer was in the throws of the post-baby blues, when he was adjusting to being alone all the time and desperate for validation that he was doing everything right.
None of that mattered now, those days were behind him. He was excited to get to show his babies to his friends, especially the humans down in Eden. he wondered if they were worried about him or if they had been occupied by other visiting angels. He also wondered if anything had improved between them that might result in a little newborn of their own.
Those questions were going to be answered soon enough, he reminded himself as he got his baby situated in the sling against his body. He brushed his fingers over the soft downy hairs on the top of Asmodeus’ head to remind himself that his baby was there and okay. He double checked the bag that he had packed before he stepped out of the home that he had been cooped up in since his little one had made his first appearance.
“We’re going to go see some of Daddy’s friends! Doesn’t that sound exciting?” he asked the baby, getting nothing but a yawn in reply. It was going to be nice to have some adults that he could talk with outside of the brief conversations that he had with Belphegor and Mammon when they brought him new supplies.
It had taken him so long to get ready that a lot of the angels were already milling about in the main part of their town. The curving, winding street with the houses had been basically deserted outside of some of the lowly archangels that were helping clean up some of the yards. He had waved to them and gotten nothing back in response, but that was a fairly common reaction. They were busy and preferred to focus on their work, as opposed to stopping and visiting with anyone that came by.
What really shook Lucifer was what happened when he finally got into the main square. He was nearing the building where the other Seraphim had their meetings about things that they could put on earth, hoping that he would catch the end of one and be able to bring up some of the baby traits for animals that already existed. It wasn’t done often, but Leviathan had been able to convince Sera of a couple ideas about fish after they had already implemented them, so Lucifer was keeping his hopes up.
He stepped into the square and waved towards Belphegor and Mammon, who waved back in response to him. They stepped into the meeting room not long after, which meant that the only two beings that knew about his baby had already left. He was nervous to see what the other angels would do about the newness of the situation but also so incredibly proud to get to show him what he had made.
“Lucifer!” Beelzebub shrieked when she saw him. She rushed over to him and pulled back the material of the sling so that she could see the baby inside. “Belphegor had mentioned that he was cute, but I didn’t think that he was going to be that cute, oh my goodness.”
“Thank you,” Lucifer felt his chest swell with pride as he watched the way that his friend was interacting with his baby. “Took a lot more than some angelic magic to be able to make him, I have to say.”
“Well of course it did! Something so perfect is going to take time and energy,” she giggled. “Congratulations, Lucifer. He’s so precious.”
Before he could say anything else, she looped her arm into his and began to drag him towards the big silver room where the Seraphim discussed what they were going to do with their business. He usually resented the place because it was where many of his dreams and ideas were shot down as being too overwhelming or not conducive to the way that they were trying to run earth and the humans. Now, having been cooped up for the better part of two months, he couldn’t wait to be back in a place where he could talk to people.
Beelzebub kept him entertained by filling him in on everything that had happened while he was away. Apparently some of the principalities had royally messed up when it came to the maintenance of the Garden and had been put into solitary for the rest of the week. A couple of cherubims had gotten in a relationship with angels ranking higher than themselves, though no one was quite sure if they were telling the truth or making things up because they were bored.
When they got to the grand doors that led into the meeting hall, they were greeted with the High Seraphim herself.
Sera was the person that he was most nervous to meet the baby. He was antsy when it came to his human friends because he knew that they had both been looking forward to meeting his son, but he knew what their reactions were going to be to some extent. He even knew when it came to a lot of the other angels because they were all entirely too predictable. The lower ranking angels wouldn’t pay him any mind because they never did, all too nervous that he could get them in trouble or that by paying attention to him they were going to end up being late for some of their other responsibilities. The humans would be excited that they finally got to see the being that Lucifer had been growing inside of himself for nine long months. Sera, on the other hand, had always been very critical of Lucifer and would likely frown upon his son.
“I’m going to get some snacks, see you,” Beelzebub grinned at Lucifer as she waved at him and then disappeared through the doors.
That left him standing in front of Sera with Asmodeus squirming on his chest like a very ineffective shield. He placed his hand on his baby’s side to soothe him as he had done so many times before, when they were in their confinement. He took a step towards the meeting room where he saw that Belphegor was having a discussion with Leviathan, wanting to see what it was about. Their conversations were always incredibly interesting and there was no way that he was going to miss out on another one, not after the two months that he had been through.
Before he could even get a toe over the threshold, there was a perfectly manicured and elegant hand blocking him from doing so. He stepped back to where he had been before and then tilted his head up towards the other angel, seeing that her mouth was contorted in a deep scowl. “What’s up, Sera?” he asked.
“I will not allow you to bring that blasphemous creation into our meeting hall, Lucifer,” she responded coldly.
Anger flashed through his system like a white hot streak of pain, reminding him of just how much he loved his son and how protective he had been feeling the week before. Belphegor had informed him that he was permitted to medically leave his home if he wanted to, but he hadn’t been able to because of his fear of exactly what was happening coming to pass. “He’s a baby, Sera, not some kind of weird animal I made in my free time.”
“You… you’ve birthed him?” she asked. Her perfect nose wrinkled in disgust as she tried to figure out how to feel about that. Lucifer wanted to roll his eyes and remind her that she had been seen romantically and sexually engaging with the angel Gabriel, who may have been Supreme Archangel, but was still so far below her that it was a massive abuse of power for them to be together.
“I did, I also made him inside of me. Like the humans can, but not with a human,” he explained. Asmodeus had come from a place of love, from within him, and he was incredibly proud of that fact. He knew that it was kind of stupid to declare it that loudly where other angels could hear him when he had already decided he was going to keep it low, but he couldn’t stop himself. He had worked tirelessly for nine months to build every finger, toe, and feather that the baby now had on his chubby little body. He had spent days trying hard not to fall asleep, eating more than rational, and trimming his hair as it kept growing down into his eyes. He wasn’t going to let that go to the wayside so that he could try and prevent people from learning that Michael had fucked him.
Sera took a step back from him and towards the door. While they had never been terribly close, no one was close to the head Seraphim, it still hurt to see her acting like that. He hadn’t brought another snake to the meeting without being prompted, he had carried his son with him like they had all theorized about humans doing far in the future. Her face was contorted in between a look of worry and one of disgust, something that made Lucifer want to snarl at her and rip her teeth out with his throat.
He had never been that feral and protective of something before, so it almost scared him that he immediately had that reaction to her. He supposed that it made sense, given that a lot of angels had more animalistic traits than the humans did as they had created everything that went to earth. He was simply trying to protect his baby from the woman that was presenting herself to be a threat.
After he had smashed the feelings of anger down into the black maw of his belly, left there to be forgotten and never acted upon, he shifted Asmodeus in his sling. “Sera, what’s going on?” Lucifer nearly demanded. “I promise that he won’t make that much noise, all he does is sleep and ask to fed. He doesn’t even smile or want to be played with at this point.”
Sera turned her head away from them so that the only thing Lucifer could see was the angular, bird-like features of her nose and chin. “I think that it would be best if you spent some time in the Garden instead of attending this meeting formally, Lucifer. Now that I know you’re well enough to attend, I can get one of the archangels to watch your son while you participate and get you the minutes so that you can catch up.”
She didn’t even wait for him to process what she had said before she turned and walked into the massive silver building. Lucifer tried to step forward so that he could follow after her, eager to have his friends meet his son and be around people like himself, but the door slammed loudly in his face.
“That was rude,” he commented to no one as he looked down at the baby curled against his chest. Asmodues had tucked one of his tiny hands up beside his face, little fingers flexing and curling as he dreamed of whatever it was that baby Seraphims dreamed about. Lucifer almost wished that he hadn’t been the first angel to experience pregnancy and birth so that he knew more about what to expect. On the other hand, he had always loved discovering new things and figuring out how they worked. It was the part of his mind that enjoyed inventing things, and in a way he was rapidly inventing angelic parenting.
Now that he was locked out of the meeting he had left the house to attend, he had one of two options. He could return back to the solitary set of rooms that he had spent the last several months cooped up in, or he could do as Sera had asked him to. Part of him wanted to rebel against her and do what he wished without her blessing overlaid on the top of it. The other part of him missed his friends in the Garden dearly and wanted to show off his son to people that would actually appreciate the baby.
Despite the urge to do the exact opposite of what Sera had told him to, he turned on his heel and walked towards the door that would lead to the Garden. Outside of the faces of his friends, it was the one sight that he had missed more than anything else while in recovery. He knew that it would bring him to a place that smelled of life and had sun that felt warm instead of middling. He could almost hear the rushing of the water in the stream and Lilith singing as she explored the upper tree topes.
He looked at the sign next to the door and saw that someone had been checking on the humans every other day for the entirety of the time that Lucifer had been gone, though it was only for a couple minutes each and a different angel every time. He wondered if his friends had missed the familiarity that came with getting to know one’s visitors, he had only recently learned about that when Bee and Mammon were keeping him fed.
Lucifer opened the door and stepped through as he had done every day throughout his entire pregnancy. It felt like returning home, more so than walking around Heaven and being stared at by the other angels ever had. The feeling amplified itself nine times more when he saw the flash of brown hair that meant Adam was nearby. He called his friend’s nap and then found a pair of sturdy arms wrapped around himself and Asmodeus.
All of the anger that he had been feeling about how Heaven was treating him and the dismissal that his son had received without even being able to stick up for himself was gone in an instant. Adam had been there for him throughout his entire pregnancy, holding back his hair when he was sick and feeding him things that he thought might be good for the growing baby. He may not have been able to service Lucifer the same way that Lilith had, but the support was stronger.
He wiggled his arms away from where he had been holding his baby and then turned around so that he could properly hug the man, his one true friend at the moment. “I’m so glad that you came back,” Adam whispered.
“I didn’t mean to be gone so long, I promise,” Lucifer replied. He had left the garden rather abruptly last time he had been there since he had been late for a meeting. He knew that Adam and Lilith would have expected him back the next day if not later that same day, but Asmodeus entrance into the world had put a pin in that for the next two months.
“Why did you leave?” Adam asked, tucking his face into the material of Lucifer’s robe. He was being so careful around the angel’s six wings, which had been semi-spread when he came into the garden because of his anger. Adam had made sure to slide his arms between the two topmost pairs as he hugged so that he wasn’t bending a single flight feather nor was he pushing the bones in the wrong direction.
Lucifer wasn’t sure if it was the changes that his body had endured after the baby was born or simply the absence that was between this moment and the last moment they had shared, but it made his entire body feel as though it were breaking. The care and consideration that was being given to him had no strings attached, not expectation of sex or attention or inventions like every other relationship he’d ever been in. It made what he had with Adam feel special and precious, something that he wanted to hold and handle the way that he handled his baby.
He took in a shaky breath to try and stop the tears before they had the chance to roll down his face. Crying wasn’t something that he was new to, the hormones from the pregnancy and birth were still tearing through him and making him very weepy. He wiped the remnants of the burst of emotion on the shoulder that Adam wasn’t leading into before he had to break the hug. He turned around and reached into the sling on his “I went into labor because I used my magic to get back. I guess angelic pregnancies still don’t really like angelic magic,” he joked.
“You had the baby?” Adam asked despite the evidence being presented right in front of him. He reached out with nervous hands, his gaze flicking from Lucifer and then down to the baby.
“I did! Would you like to hold him?” Lucifer asked. He had barely let anyone else hold his son and he would be reluctant to change that when he had to go back to Heaven, but he wanted Adam and Lilith to love his son as much as he did.
“Am I allowed to do that?” Adam gasped. He looked so excited to have the baby finally in front of him after the months that they had waited while he grew.
“Of course you are! Why wouldn’t you be?” Lucifer moved Adam’s arms around as he transferred the newborn over into his hold. It was something that he didn’t have a lot of experience with, only having done it about four times before when Belphegor came over to check and make suer that they were both okay. He managed it without any issues, other than Asmodues waking from his nap and blinking angrily at them both before he settled in.
Adam took the baby with the practice of a man that would be doing exactly that for the rest of his ridiculously long life. He leaned back against the tree that they had been standing under as he gazed down at Asmodeus. The dappling from the fluttering leaves above them made his face look somehow more serene, his eyes not moving a single bit despite the changing light over them. “I guess I was worried that you were going to be like some of the animals. Sometimes I have to help them when they’re having babies and then when I try to say hello to the babies they get really upset at me.”
“That’s because they don’t know you the way that I know you,” Lucifer smiled. He leaned against the other half of the big trunk so that he could look over Adam’s shoulder at his baby. The height difference was enough that he only managed it because Adam was leaning back at a very dramatic angle and Lucifer was standing at his full height, including his shoes and the root that he had found.
“I guess we do know each other pretty well, don’t we?” Adam grinned. Again, that maddening flutter sounded in Lucifer’s chest and made him feel as though he was going to die on the spot. He wasn’t even sure if angels could die, much less Seraphim as high up on the ladder as him, but he knew that the feeling he wanted to experience before he did was the one racing through his bloodstream in that current moment.
Adam watched the baby for a while longer before he handed him back to Lucifer, who placed the little one down into the sling. They talked about what had happened in the Garden while Lucifer was away as they walked back to Adam’s home. Lucifer slipped into the little hut beside the riverbank and placed his baby down on the bed that Adam had made for himself in the corner. The first man was right in saying that there had been a lot of improvements when it came to his living conditions.
The hut was an improvement to the lean-to that he had first made to shield himself from the rare rainstorms that the Garden would be struck with. It had mud walls that were layered on the insides with sticks so that they wouldn’t collapse inwards. The floor was layered with a woven grass rug and underneath that was enough leaves to make up an entire tree if they weren’t layered in such a way to keep the mud from one’s feet. There was a small firepit where a stack of kindling would keep the hut warm when it got cold during the night, and a pot made of clay for cooking some of the food. One of the walls had the bed, which was kept up from the ground by a large log that had been smoothed down on one side. The pillow was made out of a pelt that had been folded to keep all the rough edges from touching the sleepers face and the blanket had a finished edge to it, something that Adam was very excited to tell him about.
Lucifer sat next to the bed and listened to his friend for a good long while before asking if they could go down to the river.
“Aren’t you worried about being able to hear Asmodeus if he wakes up?” Adam asked. The human had been so excited to hear that the baby carried the name that he had helped Lucifer pick out, so he used it every time he referenced the smaller angel.
“I think that we should be able to hear him from that far away,” Lucifer laughed. He stood up and dusted his robe out of habit, despite there not being a speck of dirt on him thanks to how clean Adam was keeping his home. He untied the sling from the knot it was in at his shoulder and placed it down as a blanket on his son. “You’ve only heard him when he begins to whine for his next meal, not when he’s upset about something,” he shrugged.
“Is he really loud?” Adam asked. He scrambled to get to his feet and walked after Lucifer as they both left the hut.
The question almost made the angel snort his own spit up his nose. “He’s the loudest thing that I’ve ever encountered, even louder than Mammon after he got turned down by Sera one too many times,” he joked. It was nice to be back in a place where he knew that he would always be wanted, especially when it was in the company of someone that he really adored.
“I can’t wait until I get to have a baby of my own,” Adam grinned. “There’s so much that I know about pregnancy from watching you go through it, I keep waiting to see those things happen to me even though I know that they’re not going to.”
“Why wouldn’t they?” Lucifer asked. He had a certain idea of what the other being was talking about, but clarifying it would avoid any miscommunication like what they had had in the beginning of their friendship.
Adam’s face went a little red as he settled down at the edge of the riverbank, staring out at the rolling water. “Well, to have a baby you have to have sex. Like, to get pregnant someone with a penis has to ejaculate inside of you. Even then it doesn’t always work.”
“So are you saying that Lilith always bottoms? I wasn’t expecting that from her after how she was with me when I was pregnant but I guess everyone has their own preferred dynamics,” Lucifer shrugged. He knew that Lilith was an enigma, but she seemed to have fairly standard preferences when it came to things like sex. Perhaps she wanted to be the one to carry the first baby that she and Adam bore, as a way to prove that she was the stronger of the two since that seemed to be important to her.
Adam shook his head and then explained, “We’ve never had sex before. When she jumped on you was the first time I had ever seen her be that way with someone. Before then I had kind of assumed that she didn’t want anything to do with sex, even if it meant that we would get the babies that we wanted.”
That hit Lucifer like a slap across the face. He had always known that the first two humans didn’t get along particularly well, but he had assumed that they would be able to put aside their differences long enough to do something that they had been asked to by God. It was what marriage was for, to have children under the sanctity of a vow to the creator of all things, after all. The idea that they’d never even lain together, let alone have the explicit sex that would create a child, was enough to catch all the words in Lucifer’s throat.
“I don’t even know what having sex would feel like. I’ve- I’ve played with myself before, but I can’t imagine that it’s the same feeling really,” he sighed.
“It kind of is,” Lucifer bobbed his head from left to right. It was hard to explain the sensations that one got when they were being touched by another, at least in terms that would make it uniquely different from masturbation. “I suppose that the sensations themselves are often the same, but there’s this exciting element of surprise to it that comes from not being in control of what the other person is going to do exactly. When you touch yourself, you have a good idea of where your hand is going to be at all times. When someone else does it, you don’t know exactly where they’re going even if they clearly tell you.”
Adam was quiet for a while longer, long enough that Lucifer began to wonder if he had said the wrong thing. The way that his friend had framed his statement made it sound like he had been spurring Lucifer on to explain what the difference between sex and masturbation was like, but now he was acting as if he were ashamed of the knowledge that he had received. Instead of snarling at Lucifer and telling him to get out like Lilith sometimes did after he pushed her buttons in the wrong order, Adam simply asked, “Do you think that you could show me?”
All of the air was punched out of Lucifer all at once. He had always wanted to hear those words in this specific context, even if he hadn’t known it until he was living in that scenario. Adam was handsome in a way that none of the other angels were, rugged and damaged like all humans would turn out to be. Outside of his physical appearance, he was also kind and to the point and everything that Lucifer wanted to cling to with both hands.
So as soon as he was asked to show Adam what sex felt like, he jumped on it like a fox on a vole. He leaned forward and pressed their lips together in a gentle kiss while his hands began to explore. He placed one down on Adam’s thigh and the other on the back of his head so that their kiss could continue without them having to break apart.
Adam kissed differently than Lilith did. She always tried to eat Lucifer’s soul out through his mouth, her tongue plunging past his teeth and swirling along his like it was looking for his throat. Adam was more tentative about it, allowing their lips to pull apart and meet several times over before he nervous licked over Lucifer’s lips. Their tongues danced together in an embrace that was so intimate that it almost felt wrong. His hands moved slowly while they kissed as well, brushing over different parts of Lucifer’s body instead of immediately pulling at all of his clothing.
He allowed the kiss to remain only that for a long time, relishing in the taste and smells that the other being provided him. He advanced only when he felt that Adam could handle it, trying not to push him too far. The hand that he had placed down on the man’s leg was now traveling up his body, grasping at his hip. He placed his other hand down on Adam’s other side, using the grip that he had on his friend to flip Adam over so that the other man was straddling him. He brought their lips together into another kiss after Adam had broken away to gasp at the sudden motion.
Lucifer let out a little moan when he felt the weight of his friend settle down on top of his cock, which had gone completely unattended to since he had given birth. Even just a bit of pressure on it from a real person and not an object that he was moving around so that he had somewhere to lay his baby already made him incredibly hard. He didn’t realize how much the hormones and proximity to a child had dampened his libido, but now that those two things were not a factor it was almost overwhelming him entirely.
“Adam,” Lucifer breathed.
“Was that the wrong thing to do? I’m sorry, it just felt right. I like the feeling of your cock against my cunt,” Adam admitted. His tanned cheeks had turned almost maroon with how heavily he was blushing. Lucifer hoped that they’d be able to keep that color, but from exertion instead of embarrassment.
“I like the way that it feels too, don’t worry,” the Morningstar replied with a small shake of his head. “I just don’t want you to be disappointed if it turns out that I, um, complete before you do. I haven’t had a lot of time to keep up my normal routine.”
It was his turn to be embarrassed, but he found that it was a lot easier to admit that to Adam than it had been to tell Lilith that the pregnancy was making him so horny that he could cum at the drop of a hat. Adam leaned down and began to kiss at his neck and cheeks, biting at the skin just under his ear. “I don’t care of you get off as soon as you enter me, I just need to know what it feels like.”
Lucifer grasped Adam’s hips again and then flipped them over, taking care to lower them down onto the ground slowly with a single flap of his wings. If they were back in heaven and he had the soft beds each of the angels were provided with then he wouldn’t have bothered with that, but he would have hurt Adam by simply dumping him down on the ground. He wanted this experience to be good for both of them so he made sure to be gentle.
Once Adam was underneath him, he was able to be more in control of the situation. He brought their lips together in another kiss because that seemed to be the easiest way for them to proceed with things. He let his hands actually move that time, instead of just traveling to a secondary location. He brushed the tips of his fingers down Adam’s uncovered arms, all the way from his wrist up to where the strap of his grass woven shirt was resting. He slipped it off his shoulder and then did the same on the other side so that the baggy garment fell down and revealed his chest.
Adam gasped then, breaking the kiss and looking down at his newly exposed skin. Lucifer leaned down and took one of Adam’s nipples easily into his mouth while he toyed with the other one. He had always liked that when Lilith and Michael did it to him, but he wasn’t quite getting the response that he had been hoping for now that he was doing it with Adam.
Never one to be put off by a small failure, Lucifer changed tactics. He leaned down to his friend’s collarbone and took it into his mouth. He brought the flesh in between his teeth and rolled it back and forth before sucking on it hard. Adam let out a sharp moan and threw his head back. Now that he knew he was on the right path. Lucifer left a couple of wet kisses on Adam’s collarbone before he reached a part of his body that would be well hidden by the clothing Adam had fashioned for himself. He let out an near animalistic growl as he bit the flesh there, happy that there was a rolling abundance of it for him to sink his teeth into.
That got him the reaction that he had been expecting when he had started the experiment, which made him grin wickedly. He pulled back and off Adam so that he was on his knees and towering above the first man. He undid the specialized folds of his robe so that it slipped off of his body and onto the ground. He had started dressing differently when he was breastfeeding, but that only made it easier for him to strip when he wanted to be naked.
He paused once the fabric all fell away, suddenly aware of how different his body was to what Adam had seen before. When he had first come to the Garden, neither of the humans had discovered which of the fibers they could turn into clothing to protect their skin. Lucifer had been dressed in his robe but had shed it not long after meeting Adam so that they could go fishing together. His body had changed a lot since the last time that they had see each other naked, and even more since the first. His chest was puffy and currently swollen with milk that Asmodeus would drink when he next woke. His nipplies had changed color significantly with the hormones from his pregnancy. His hips were a bit wider apart than they had been before, but were now also striped with stretch marks from the rapid growth of his belly. His stomach itself had ripples of silvery skin down at the bottom and fell far differently than it had originally.
He half expected Adam to be disgusted with the way that he looked since it was so different from what it had been before, but instead the first man was just amazed with him. He brushed one of his hands over the marks on Lucifer’s stomach as he said, “I remember when Asmodeus was in here, when they were all red and angry because of how quickly he was growing.”
Lucifer leaned down and captured his lips in another adoring kiss. He sped it up for a while before he said, “Soon your body will also look like mine, you’ll have a child of your own to care for.”
Adam looked like he wanted to cry at that, which was absolutely not what Lucifer had intended to come out of that statement. He tried to soothe any of the hurt that the man was feeling by bringing their lips together in another adoring kiss. He laid Adam down on the ground and began to work further on him, returning them to where they had been before he had misspoken.
He removed the rest of Adam’s clothing so that they were both as exposed as the other person. The cool water coming from the stream at their backs was enough to raise goosebumps on both of their skins and Lucifer’s feathers puffed to protect him from the chill. He kept going, though, shifting them so that they were on top fo the clothing that they had removed and not in the slick mud of the riverbank.
Now that they were able to reach the parts that were required for the experience Adam had asked for, Lucifer let his hands wander once more. He trailed them down to the muscular flesh of Adam’s thighs, where he dug in his fingers so that he could pull the other being around. He spread Adam’s thighs and then settled down in between them as he broke their kiss so that he didn’t overwhelm his friend. He used his hand to wrap Adam’s legs around his waist before he released one of them, using that same hand to wrap around the base of his cock.
He let out a shocked moan as his body was overcome with a rush of lust due to the sensations he had almost forgotten about. Lucifer panted as he waited for the feeling to go away so that he wouldn’t have to bring their experience to an end before it had even begun. He knew that he had a higher tolerance before his self-assigned isolation, so he was trying to find that feeling in the back of his memory.
Once he had settled back into just being aroused instead of pleasured, he tilted his hips downward slightly. He could see Adam’s glistening wet folds peaking out from underneath the course hair and heavy sac, inviting him in with each small movement that either one of them made. He was never one to avoid indulging in something that was begging so prettily for him, so he used his hand to press the tip of his cock into the opening.
Adam let out a little gasp when he felt the beginning of the intrusion, moving his legs apart so that there was more room for the angel to fit between them. He let one of his arms fall above his head while the other covered his mouth, before the hand flew to Lucifer’s shoulder so that he could support himself as the other man pushed in with a single fluid motion.
Lucifer leaned down so that his forehead was resting on Adam’s shoulder. His entire body was quivering with the overwhelming pleasure the he had gotten simply from entering his friend. He had been sucked off before, and played with sensations that he had assumed would replicate the feeling of being inside of someone, but nothing actually measured up to the real feeling. He knew that Adam was doing this with him so that he could be ready for when Lilith eventually decided that she was ready to start having children, but it made his entire body feel as if it was breaking apart in the best way possible to have that kind of intimacy with Adam.
When he felt that they had both adjusted so that neither of them would cum too quickly, he began to move. He drew his hips back slowly and then plunged in again so that he was buried up to the root. He could feel Adam’s heavy ballsack resting on the top of his cock every time that he plunged in again and he wondered what it would be like to have everything inside of it emptied into him. It had been so long since he had been properly bent over something and used the way that Michael had used to.
Just as that thought entered his mind, it left with the sound of Adam moaning. Something about the way that they were laying and the speed that Lucifer was going at seemed to be working well for him. He had already closed his beautiful brown eyes and had thrown his head back against the shirt that Lucifer had striped off of him. If Lucifer had been a lesser being, he would have assumed that he had fallen into the bed of an angel because of how holy Adam looked while doing that.
He kept rutting down into his friend as he chased after the tightening coil in his gut. It was going to come down on him so hard that he might actually explode, he could already feel it despite being in the very, very beginning throws of his orgasm. His breaths started to come out in short little pants as he wound himself up further and further with every minute movement that either one of them made. “I’m going to cum, Adam, I’m sorry,” he grunted.
That had never happened before when he had sex, even the first time that he had fallen into bed with Mammon before he and Michael started their arrangement. He had never had to apologize before, unless it was about accidentally slipping onto someone’s wing, so he could already feel embarrassment trying to swallow him whole. He had been trying to make the experience as good as he could for Adam, but he was going to cum after barely five minutes of being inside of the other being.
“Me too, Lucifer, please.” Adam gasped and moaned even louder now that he knew Lucifer was just as close as he was.
The embarrassment that the angel had been going through was gone in an instant and he felt secured down to the earth in the best way possible. Even when he had been in Lilith’s arms after she had ravaged him, he had never felt as good as he did now, in that moment with Adam. He leaned down and captured another kiss from the first man as he pumped in for the last time.
Just as he had thought it would, his entire body went rigid with the force of the orgasm coming down on him. His cunt grasped around nothing while his cock twitched and began to pump cum deep into Adam. He let out little gasps as every wave of his orgasm coincided with Adam’s joining them together in a kind of strange intimacy that he had never had the chance to experience with anyone else. He was barely even aware of the feeling of cum being dumped in between them onto their chests.
When they had both come down from the rush of adrenaline and all the other feel-good chemicals that came with orgasming, they waded into the river to clean themselves off. If they ended up joining together a few more times while in the brisk water, then that was for them to know and enjoy in the privacy of each other and a sleeping baby.
---
Lucifer didn’t know what to expect from Heaven from that point onward. He knew that they were upset at him for having a child without that ever being something that God either condemned or condoned.
When he walked through the towns with Asmodeus on his chest or hip he could feel the way that they were all watching him with careful eyes, as if they were both going to cause the end of the universe by picking up more apples. Sera had also made good on her threat when she had learned of Asmodues’ existence, setting up a revolving number of babysitters who would come every day to try and separate father and son. That made Lucifer angrier than he had ever been before and he would almost always excuse himself to disappear into the Garden with his son still in his arms. He was very protective of his boy and would only leave him with a young Principality named Saraqael that had been sweet on Beelzebub for quite some time.
He worked and turned in the ideas that he thought that they would like, but he still somehow turned out to be wrong about that. It seemed as though all of Heaven had turned against him now that he was harboring something that they viewed as being dangerous. Lucifer had no idea how his boy was supposed to be dangerous when the baby cried whenever he was on his stomach and refused to eat if he wasn’t in Lucifer’s arms.
The thoughts weighed heavy on his mind as he stepped through the door to Eden. He was distracted enough that he wasn’t able to appreciate the paradise that his friends lived in while he walked through the tall grass, beginning to turn yellow as the autumnal season took over the Garden. He passed by the wilting flowers and the already hibernating trees as he made his way down to the stream, overflowing with water from the rain the day before. He only snapped out of his thoughts when he caught sight of Adam sitting in front of the smoldering fire.
“Hello, friend,” he greeted.
Adam startled, as if he had also been so lost in his thoughts that he hadn’t realized that Lucifer was as close to him as he was until he said something. Lucifer was able to get a better look at the first man now and another kind of worry piled onto the feelings that were swirling inside of him. It had only been two months since he had returned to the Garden, but he knew Adam well enough to tell that this was a sharp turn in his friend.
“I didn’t know that you were coming to visit today,” Adam explained as he got up and led them to the hut. It was a habit that they had both developed since Lucifer had returned from the birth of his son. They would go inside of Adam’s home and put the baby down for a nap before they went to talk with each other. Sometimes, when Lucifer had enough time before he had to go back to Heaven, they would bring Asmodeus with them when they went to forage for berries. The baby never came with them when Lucifer decided to go out hunting, instead leaving him with Lilith.
“Are you doing alright, Adam?” Lucifer asked, touching his friend’s shoulder to let the man know that he was there. Adam’s eyes seemed more dull than they usually were and his body language was guarded in a way that he had never seen before. It was honestly scaring him far more than he thought it would.
“I haven’t been sleeping very well,” Adam replied with a small shrug.
Something inside of Lucifer flipped in panic and excitement. He knee that Adam and Lilith had been getting along a little bit better than they had previously, so he was hoping that a baby was going to be in the cards soon. Of course, if Adam was already showing pregnancy signs then that meant that there was a non-zero chance that the babe was his. “How so?” he asked before he jumped to any more conclusions.
“I’ve been nauseous, usually after I eat something. It means that I’ve been eating less and things that I don’t really like to try and make it go away. I’ve also had these horrible nightmares where things are so weird that I wake up in a cold sweat,” Adam explained. He sat down heavily on his bed and then reached his arms up for the baby.
Lucifer had already been removing his son from the fabric he wa contained in, which had transitioned from the tie of fabric that went from his shoulder to his hip to something that tied Asmodeus to his chest. It was easier for the baby to settle when he was able to see the things around him, now that he was able to hold up his head. Lucifer also wanted to encourage the curiosity that he could already see in his young son as much as he could. Curiosity and inventions went hand in hand, so he was hoping that he would be able to integrate his boy into the Seraphim court when he was old enough.
“Do you think that you might be able to sleep better if you had some company?” Lucifer asked as he sat in front of the bed. His heart fluttered madly in his chest as he watched the tender way that Adam handled his son, cradling him against his chest and kissing the top of his little head.
“I don’t know. I tried to do that with Lilith, she actually let me come into her home, but then she got upset the third time I had woken her up,” Adam sighed.
“Well, progress,” Lucifer laughed. “And we both know that she’s not really a morning person, so I’m not surprised that she got cross with you after being woken up when she wasn’t ready.”
“I suppose so. It just feels like nothing I do is ever right with her! I mean, we were literally made for each other. There has to be something up with her, I don’t understand why God would make us like this and then expect us to be able to make enough children to populate the entire earth,” Adam complained.
Something in Lucifer wanted to agree with his friend, if only to spite the creator that was making the world a hard place for his baby to exist. The other part of him wanted to defend Lilith and explain to Adam the real reason that they had been created in that specific way. He opted for the second, laying his head down on the side of Adam’s thigh so that they were close together but could still hold a conversation. “God can’t control the personality that His creations take, He can only control what they are and what their destinies will be. So He made you both in a specific way, allegedly in His own image, not that any of us have seen him.”
Adam laughed a little and it made Lucifer’s heart feel as if it were going to explode. He wanted to drink that sound down like the coolest water on the hottest day spent in the desert surrounding Eden. He wanted to drown himself in that sound until it was the only thing in his mind.
“I guess that makes sense. Lilith is her own person,” Adam nodded his head.
Lucifer nodded in agreement. She was her own person, not someone that was supposed to be the female version of Adam so that they could easily produce a lot of children. The angel had an idea of what the human life was supposed to look like outside of Eden, and he knew that there was meant to be a lot of trials overcome to get an end result that was something worth living.
“Now do you want to try sleeping with me here? My angelic abilities might keep some of the nightmares away,” he grinned.
Adam didn’t look too sure about accepting the offer, but the burbling of the baby in his arms quickly brought him over to one specific side. He lay down on the bed with Asmodeus’ head resting against his arm so that it was acting like a pillow for the four-month-old. They were both out like a light, exhausted from what they had been going through even if Adam was only pregnant and the angelic baby was learning and growing more each day.
When his friend was asleep, the angel decided to use it as a chance to check his theory. He moved slowly and cautiously so as to not wake either of the other occupants inside of the hut. He placed his hand on the bottom of Adam’s stomach the way that Belphegor had done to him when he was giving birth. He pressed down on it slightly while doing the same thing to his own belly with his other hand. There was a definite difference between the two, more so than Adam being more muscular than the angel. Something inside of him was hard and already beginning to expand outwards.
Lucifer smiled widely as he kissed Asmodues’ head and then Adam’s cheek. He stood and walked out of the hut so that he could sing something to himself and have a bit of proper fresh air. He was so happy that his friends had already conceived a child after so long waiting and Adam wanting one so badly. He hoped that Lilith would be as excited about becoming a mother as Adam could be about becoming a father.
As if thinking of the woman had summoned her, Lilith appeared by his side. She sat down on the bench that Adam had fashioned in front of his outdoor cookfire and asked, “Lucifer, may I speak with you about something?”
“Always,” he nodded. “You know that I care about you both and want to know everything that I can.”
“I just want to make sure that I’m speaking to you as my friend and not the angel that has come to make sure that Adam and I behaving,” she replied. He knew that she had gotten more closed off since something had happened during his eight weeks in isolation after Asmodeus was born. He had tried to ask her what had happened and why she refused to talk to him about the things that she used to, but he had gotten sent back to Adam instead.
“What you tell me will stay between the two of us, I promise,” Lucifer smiled.
Her face turned a little bit red and she brushed a piece of his hair back behind his ear. She then let out a long sigh and turned her head back out towards the river that was flowing next to them. She looked like she was trapped in her own mind for a long moment, simply debating what she was going to say to him before she finally came to her conclusion. He had seen her look like that many times before and it had always intrigued him. “I think that I’m ready to leave. I promise you that I would stay until after Asmodeus was born and now he’s four months old. I only stayed when you were away because I wanted to know if you were okay. I’m ready to leave and see what the rest of this massive planet has in store for us.”
His stomach sank so low that it disappeared to the realm below the earth, the one that the younger angels dared each other to stare into. His body felt as if he had just plunged his very heart into the cold river next to them, shocks of ice water rushing through his veins. He turned his head back to where their friend and his baby were sleeping before he looked back to her, “But what about Adam?”
“What about him?” Lilith asked, looking a little annoyed.
“He’s pregnant, Lilith. I don’t think that’s really the best time for him to be exploring some place that’s going to be far harder to live in than Eden,” he explained. It was common sense to him, so he was struggling to figure out why that was so much harder for his friend to understand.
“I don’t think I want to bring Adam with me. With us,” she reached out and took his hand in hers. He could feel the callouses that she had developed over the middles of her fingers and across her palm from the climbing and foraging that she did. She spent so much of her days up in trees so that she could gaze out of the tall walls of the Garden, it made her hands feel completely different than Adam’s.
“You don’t want to bring him with? But he’s your husband, and my friend,” Lucifer said. He knew that the two humans often argued and saw the world in very different lights, but the idea of leaving Adam behind didn’t quite sit right with the angel. He knew that they couldn’t leave with him because of the baby, but it didn’t feel right to leave without him either.
Lilith huffed and stood from the bench so that she could pace around the fire. “Adam and I don’t get along, you’ve seen the kind of fights that we’ve had. You can ask him to come with you if you really want, but I think that we both know it’ll be safer if we leave together and let him stay here.”
“I’ll think about it for a while and then get back to you, alright?” Lucifer answered. It was the only thing that he could tell her for the time being. Learning that Adam was pregnant had already been quite the shock for the day, especially when there was that niggling feeling in the back of his head that mimicked what had happened when he had Asmodeus. He was going through too much and too stressed out to accept the fact that he might be a father again, to a baby conceived with one of the humans that had he had been meant to protect. He couldn’t leave immediately, not without making sure that he had packed the things that Asmodeus was going to need, at the very least.
She didn’t look very happy with that answer but nodded anyway, accepting it for the time being.
---
Adam figured out that he was pregnant not long after he woke up from the nap that he had taken with Asmodeus. He and Lucifer had talked about the symptoms that they shared when they were in the early couple of months. Adam had near constant morning sickness and heartburn where Lucifer had an increase in appetite that made him eat almost twice as much as he had previously. Lucifer had begun showing far before Adam had, and his hot flashes had come later in the pregnancy than they were for Adam.
It was interesting to watch his friend go through the thing that he had just experienced. It was also exciting to think about the idea of another tiny baby being brought into the world when Lucifer didn’t have to be the one to go through pregnancy, labor and birth.
Along with the good, however, always came the bad. Every moment of joy that he spent with Adam and excitement that he had over the man’s pregnancy was met with a moment of fear and panic. The other angels in heaven were still being rather wary and hostile towards himself and his son, but he was learning how to adjust to it. The Seraphims other than Sera herself seemed to enjoy being around the little baby, especially Beelzebub and Belphegor. He couldn’t even get a break when it came to hard emotions when he was in the garden because he had spent another two months trying to figure out what he wanted to do in reference to Lilith’s threats to leave the Garden. He had managed to stall her by convincing her that they would need items that could carry water for them, thick blankets for the cold nights, and a couple other things.
He had just begun to walk to the meeting that Sera had called, a day early than their usual meetings to discuss their rolls in the Heavens and what they were going to do with earth. Something in the back of Lucifer’s mind was telling him that it was a trap of some kind, that it was dangerous and deadly to step into that room with people that weren’t keen on him or his son. Asmodeus was back at home with the angel that Sera had sent, though he wasn’t sure that he wanted to do that. While nothing had happened in the last four months that he had to leave his son alone so that he could go to work, that same feeling in the back of his head that edged him towards leaving with Lilith told him that something was going to happen.
He had gotten used to ignoring what he thought was best, though, because Heaven encouraged him to do it as much as possible. The other Seraphims usually argued with him about his ideas and Sera made it clear that what he was thinking about adding to the menagerie was stupid. He had gotten used to double checking what he was going to say before it actually made its way past his lips and thinking about the things that his instincts told him before he acted on them.
So he pressed on, walking down the winding streets of Heaven until he reached the meeting room where the other Seraphims were gathered. When he took his seat, he accidentally ended up meeting Belphegor’s eyes and the look that she gave him made his stomach flip in panic. He could feel that ice water returning to him like it had when Lilith had asked him to leave right after he had discovered that Adam was expecting. He almost got to his feet and rushed back home so that he could check on his son, but their boss entered and suddenly he was trapped.
Sera walked to the head of the table and smiled warmly at the gathered people. Something about the way that she was dressed and presenting herself sent off a thousand more alarm bells in Lucifer’s head than had been there before. He didn’t quite know what was going to happen, but he had a feeling that it wasn’t going to mean anything good for him.
“Hello, my fellow angels. I have an announcement that I know is going to bring Heaven joy and light,” Sera said, her voice ringing through the lofty ceiling of the room that they were in. “God came to me not four months ago and declared that I was to carry the first Child of Heaven. They will be a Seraphim such as us, and they will bring joy to the Saints that come to join us as soon as the issues within the Garden are finished.”
Lucifer didn’t bother to stick around after that. The mention of Sera’s child being the first instead of his own had already told him that they were going to be doing something to his baby. No one had any idea if angels could die or what might happen to them when they did, but God had told Sera something and that meant that Lucifer’s child was in danger.
Anger boiled in his stomach as he thought about all the panic and anxiety that he had faced during his pregnancy. He had to smother himself in fabric to keep his stomach hidden while Sera only had to do it until she had announced that it was happening. He’d had to make his entire world revolve around his job and spending time in the Garden so that no one would notice those wonderful changes to his body that signified a new life coming into the universe. He resented Sera for the way that she had spoken about his baby when he had tried to bring Asmodeus into their meeting home, only to announce the conception of her own child in the exact same place. He knew that she would be revered and love for bringing a child into the world when he was forced to leave his own son at home for longer than any parent would be comfortable with, and in the care of angels that he did not trust.
He never flew when he was in Heaven, he preferred to walk on the streets that they had made so that he could appreciate all the effort that had gone into his home. He liked it when things took their time so that they could be appreciated, but now nothing about the place he had grown up in seemed as if it deserved that love. He had poured his everything into Heaven and the other angels and they had repaid him by trying to hurt his son.
Lucifer stood in his chair so quickly that it caused it to tip over and smash against the ground, the fragile crystal that it was made out of splintering everywhere. A couple of the other Seraphims turned and shouted after him when they realized who was escaping their midsts. He didn’t bother to turn around and meet with them, to explain what was going through is mind and what his instincts were telling him had happened. They would follow after him or they wouldn’t.
He flapped once as soon as he had reached the outside of the meeting house, all six of his wings propelling him into the air at a quick rate. He turned towards the swirling roads and buildings that made up the places where the angels lived. It didn’t take very long for him to get there, all the younger and lower ranked angels milling about in the clouds moving out of his way as soon as they saw him coming.
When he arrived at his home, he saw that the door had been left open and the windows were broken. Something had happened and they had staged it to look as though it was an accident, or a force had come in to hurt his son outside of the baby sitter he had left Asmodeus with. He wasn’t sure which angel they were going to blame the death or dismissal of his son on, but he was glad that they would be absolved since he had found it out before the crime was complete.
His ears picked up on the cries of his baby almost immediately. He lived near the edge of Heaven, where the land tipped down to look on earth. The rest of the land wasn’t like that, it was meant to be a gift for the angels that would one day become guardians of the humans that would populate the earth. Lucifer turned quickly in the direction of his baby and took flight once more.
He landed in front of the scene that was unfolding and felt all that anger return to him with the force of the sun, blazing hot and more dangerous than anything in existence had been yet.
Saraqael was standing near the edge of the group, a pair of cherubs that had taken the form of goat-angel hybrids covering their mouth. They were pulling against the arms of their captors but it was to no avail, and the cherubs weren’t letting up despite the tears coursing down their face. He knew then that Saraqael had been part of the plot, meant to be injured and left in his home after being forced to watch the child that they had cared for be thrown over the edge of Heaven.
Two Principalities and Gabriel himself were standing with his son, who was screaming as he tried to get away from him. The baby’s cries immediately grew sharper when he was able to see his father but was yet unable to get to him. Lucifer could feel each one of the sobs reaching into his chest and twisting his heart as if trying to tear an apple from its branch. He wanted his son back in his arms, but he had to be careful with what he was doing. If he made a single wrong move, then it could cost his baby his life.
“What do you think you’re doing?” he asked. He sheathed his wings to try and get Asmodeus to do the same, to try and have his baby hide the things that he was being held by. The eight-month-old boy had barely learned how to flap them individually and most times wasn’t aware that he even had them, so it was a futile endeavor from the start.
“God has declared that the child you made without His approval is an abomination and a sleight against Him. He has ordered that he be thrown out of Heaven,” the Principality that was holding onto his son said, as if he were discussing something as benign as what color of eggs ducks should lay.
“He’s a child! If you cast him out of Heaven then he will die,” Lucifer tried to lurch forward despite knowing that it was a bad idea. He should have waited and charged at the perfect moment so that he could get his son and keep him safe, which was his job as Asmodeus’ father. But he couldn’t, all he could hear was the sound of his baby crying and it was driving him insane.
Another one of the angels moved using the speed of their wings and then wrapped around him so that they were pinning his arms behind his body. When he tried to break away from them by kicking backwards, they smashed the bottom of their foot into the base of his knee and caused him to buckle. It didn’t stop him from trying to push against them and calling out for his baby. He wanted his son to know that he was trying to get to him even though they were both being held down and forced apart by things outside of their control.
The Principality held Asmodeus out in front of him and then nodded his head towards Gabriel. The Supreme Archangel stepped forward and took one of the boy’s little wings into his hand. It was so small that the entire thing fit directly into his palm, none of the feathers peaking out beyond the tips of his fingers. He wrapped his hand around the wing so that Lucifer could no longer see it and then tightened his grip so that the fragile, hollow bones within cracked dramatically. He did the same thing to the other wings, picking up his speed when the baby began to shriek more than he had before.
Lucifer was screaming. He could barely even hear the words that were spilling out of his mouth as he did. It might have been only the animalistic sounds of a parent trying to comfort their child and scare away the predators threatening them. He could feel the pull on his skin as he tried to push his way out of the hold he had been secured into. His baby was being hurt and he couldn’t get to him, but that wouldn’t stop him from trying until he was dead or otherwise indisposed.
As soon as every single one of Asmodeus’ beautiful wings had been snapped so that they were hanging off of him in mutilated shapes, the way that they never should have, the angels relented for only a moment. The babe in their arms was still screaming and reaching out for his father, but they weren’t hurting him for the time being.
The principality leading the charge said something that Lucifer didn’t bother to listen to and then tossed his son over the side of Heaven so that he was tumbling down to earth. Lucifer screamed louder than he had before, shaking the world around him with the power that he was releasing to get the smaller angels off of him.
It felt like a bastardization of the gift that he had been given by the Heavenly Father. The power that he wielded inside of him was meant to be put into primal creation, to make something out of nothing. It wasn’t meant to be manipulated into the shocks of energy and electricity that he had transformed it into. It wasn’t meant to lash out and snap at the people holding him down, to leave them with glistening golden blood pouring down their faces and from the wounds around their chests and backs. No one had ever used angelic abilities to fight, no one had ever been forced to do something like that by their brethren. Lucifer had thought of many ways to use his power and had done many things that had never been done before, so this was nothing new to him.
As soon as the cherub that had been holding him down released him, he launched himself over the edge of the clouds and down towards his son. He used his massive wings, uninjured for the moment, to propel himself down faster. He could hear the crying getting louder and louder as the wind carried it to him and he brought himself closer to his baby.
He reached out, stretching his body painfully thin, as he reached for Asmodeus. The moment that his hand connected with his baby all was right in the world again, because he could fix what had happened. He wrapped his arms around his boy and cradled him against his chest as the first spear pierced through his left wing. He began listing right until the other side was mimicked with another angelic weapon.
He could feel the burning pain as he was wounded the same way that his son had been, but he tried not to think about it. Instead he sang to his son, pet Asmodeus’ hair to reassure him that he was going to be okay in the end of it all.
Lucifer didn’t believe it, not when his golden blood was floating in the air around him and he was plummeting towards a gaping black abyss that he had never seen before.
Adam is more than the first man he is the mother of virtue. While Lilith hated her role Adam did not hate his, happy to live within Eden and serve Heaven...sometime after Lucifer and Lilith began to keep secrets and even plot Adam had his first child days after the two left the garden and abandoned him. A child born of Adam's goodness and the need to have such good reflected back into the world...Humility would stand against Pride. Eve would later be created and the apple eaten. Lucifer and Lilith would be cast down the sin of Pride now fully realized, evil would spread rotting Eden and tainting the Earth...for every sin there is a virtue to match it. Adam can also be the mother of the sins or not. The virtues don't care for much outside they're mother Adam but they are powerful and will throw down so when Hell's little fool princess steps out of place they show up just in time! Needless to say things don't go to plan for the Hazbin Hotel...Here's a list of sins to the virtue if you want it...Virtue: Chastity to Sin: Lust. Virtue: Faith to Sin: Idolatry Virtue: Good Works to Sin: Avarice or Greed Virtue: Concord or peace to Sin: Discord or disruption or disharmony Virtue: Sobriety to Sin Indulgence Virtue: Patience to Sin: Wrath Virtue: Humility to Sin: Pride or better known as Chastity to Lust Temperance to Gluttony Charity to Greed, Diligence to Sloth, Kindness to Envy Patience to Wrath and Humility to Pride...oh also in this universe the current sins in Hell aren't the orginal ones...the original sins other than Pride were torn apart during one of the more intense clashes between Heaven and Hell. The replacements formed to be the ones in Helluva Boss yeah a loose idea again, any one can use p.s might send some of my ideas in an ask directly to one of my favorite writers some time but still if you also want to use the idea lot's of people come up with simliar stuff but every twist is unique and fun don't be put off please!
