We are thrilled to announce that our most recent raffle of fan-donated @johnmayer merch brought in a whopping $1,060.00 for @isaacfoundation ‘s MPS II (Hunter Syndrome) Fund!!!
There is so much to tell you about, that has happened within The JM Fan Street Team since we last blogged. Unfortunately, this writer’s hand surgery last month has precluded any serious blogging. So here are the highlights:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
First, the raffle... We have to apologize that we had to limit updates to being done briefly on Instagram, to the exclusion of our Tumblr, Twitter, and Facebook audiences. Again... the hand surgery thing (which I’m aggravating right now, so trying hard not to be my verbose self). If you don’t follow us on Instagram, please come on over and find us... we go by “jmfanstreetteam” over there. We try like heck to keep everyone updated, but alas we are mere humans behind this well-polished Tumblr screen.
Once our raffle gained momentum, super-JM fan Mark Rankin of Florida issued the second of his amazing offer-slash-challenges: he said that if we could get our raffle entries up to $800, he would add another $200 and bump it up to an even $1,000! And this was AFTER he’d already contributed $260 to the raffle coffers!!
Well, if you know anything about how amazing John Mayer fans are, you know that they do not take such challenges lightly, especially when it’s for MPS kids!! Our team leadership issued a challenge on top of his: that if we did hit $1,000, we would add two more merch packages to our raffle, and choose THREE winners instead of just ONE... thus clearing out every single thing that has been donated to us recently.
We did, and he did, and then we did again. Our grand prize winner of the TSFE Meet and Greet tour poster and JM-autographed “Emoji of a Wave” lyrics was Stacy W. of Texas. The winner of Package #2, two VIP lanyards from Dead & Company (2016) and TSFE (2017) tours, was Sarah W. of Wales, United Kingdom. And the winner of Package #3, JM stationery and other mementoes, was Kendra B. of Alabama. Congratulations to all of you, and thank you to everyone who entered ~ especially Mark, for the added incentives!
The raffle packages were all mailed out on Monday, and a donation of net proceeds was made to The Isaac Foundation’s MPS II Fund yesterday. We donated $1,335 CAD via Trey Purcell’s “half-marathon” sponsorship page, bringing the total raised for MPS II by participants in the Scotiabank 5K Cross-Canada “Run For a Cure” to over $15,000 CAD!
This contribution is one of the MOST significant ones we’ve made since we started this project in 2012, because the gene therapy which is believed to be a cure for MPS II / Hunter Syndrome is now at the stage where all that’s needed is money. So every dollar that is donated now is potentially saving a child’s life... literally!!!
If you’d like to know more about this particular form of MPS, how it affects the children’s and families’ lives that it touches, and the promising gene therapy that’s close on the horizon, you can find info and videos at:
The money raised through this latest raffle brought the total that we, the JM Fan Street Team, have raised for The Isaac Foundation and MPS kids up to an incredible $8,572.12 USD!!! Our next goal: $10,000 USD by the close of 2017!! Can we do it???
It’s with great sadness that we report the loss of a valued member of the JM Family on June 29, 2017. Our dear friend and fellow street teamer, Jessica Luttrell, lost her brief battle with cancer at the young age of 36. Street teamers Chanda P. and Melissa C. took up a collection amongst the JM family, and Chanda also represented all of us at Jess’s memorial service in Tennessee last Thursday. Her JM family sent a beautiful flower spray and also contributed over $500 toward her funeral expenses. The heart of life is good, and once again JM fans have stepped up and showed what amazing souls they are. Goodbye Jess, we will always miss you.
On a happier note, our street teamer Irem O., in the beautiful country of Turkey, wed her beau Erdem this past Saturday, in a weekend-long celebration of love with their family and friends. Irem was a stunning bride, in a gorgeous dress that looked like it was made just for her. The couple was last reported honeymooning in Provence!! Best wishes to them as they begin their life together. Irem, your JMFST friends will have a little something coming to you when you return home.
Finally, we would be remiss if we didn’t tell you that our fearless leader, Andrew McFadyen, turned 40 last Friday. Happy belated birthday to a man who does so much for so many in the MPS community!! Send him a shout-out, if you haven’t already.
That’s it~ wrapping this up, just as a big thunderstorm is rolling in overhead! Until next time,
JMFST
