Newsie: Mike the Greaser
Mike the Greaser, or The Greaser as he prefers to be called is "a big one" according to an unidentified Newsie. A big scab that is. He's a giant of a Newsie who dresses in an amber vest over a sage green shirt and matching sage cap.
Here is a real life incident between Kid Blink and The Greaser:
(The newspaper refers to Kid Blink as “Mr. Blink")
The Greaser is in favour of the strike at first.
But David's singing about seizing the day motivates the Greaser, in all the wrong ways. The song doesn't motivate him to join the strike, it motivates him to scab.
Maybe he would've gotten the message if he had been listening to the whole song instead of goofing off with his friends and only hearing what he wants to hear.
The Greaser is afraid, but without delay, he opens the gates to the distribution centre to seize the day. He rushes towards Weasel and lines up to get his papes. Mike isn't about "one for all" but "all for one".
Since this is a Disney movie and one directed by Kenny Ortega, in the confrontation between strikers and scabs, we don't get revolver chokes, instead we get sexually charged stares,
agressive pec grabs,
and near kisses.
After having to sit through Seize the Day for a second time, but slower and with more dancing, The Greaser finally gets it, and starts to feel some remorse.
But not enough to give up scabbing.
