okay okay, putting this as anon even tho I will probably immediately like any reply so I don’t get beat with rocks (which I suspect won’t happen but who knows) is there any part of ghost eyes you dislike or think could’ve been done better? Because idk about you but I think it does have quite a few issues especially in the really old panels, don’t get me wrong it’s great and I love it to bits and have great respect for MCP I just feel like every piece of media it has questionable areas. just curious, twirling hair strand. I haven’t really seen a lot of fans discuss any negative parts of ghost eyes yet and I’m wondering if my opinion aligns with other fans

all of this will be prefaced with i LOVE this story and this is not to bash mcp in any way. like iirc they started writing this when they were like 18 and it was a way different time on the internet back then and that context is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT when discussing its (admittedly many, especially early on) flaws. no one is perfect and with the shit theyve dealt with criticism is not very easily taken when it was previously used so violently.

augerbently eckerviel edburt. oh my god this fucking guy. unfortunately i must admit i am one of the worlds biggest august edward/mr edburt enjoyers (you heard me. including mr edburt) i do really think hes a fascinating character but loooooord he is NOT easy to stomach in earlier chapters especially parts 1-2 or so. i think looking at his character from a specific angle and observing how he acts can be rather intriguing in some instances but mainly in the beginning especially i think. there is a certain extent where (for lack of a better word, though this isnt ENTIRELY how i see it but this is a discussion for another time) his “perversions” can hold that value/intrigue at a cost that isnt too heavy. but it definitely gets pushed waaayy too senselessly far early on in the story. insensitively and just unseriously so. also ive heard rumors he was based on like a real predator? but please please PLEASEEE do not use this to harass anybody or anything like that because i have NOOOTTT FACT CHECKED THIS. but again the author was a teenager/young adult in the late 2010s writing this character. im not at all saying that makes edburts writing from the start tolerable, palatable, or “totally fine”, but i think its a point that a lot of the fandom doesnt think much about when they jump to criticize papa as a reflection of or because of their older work. ignorance is just that; ignorance. total oblivion. and people need a chance to grow up and learn before becoming solid people yknow

the lack of diversity kind of sucks and we all know about that one joke at pati’s expense at the very beginning. once again though mcp was much younger at that time and MCP IS MIXED/BLACK, I AM NOT. so i cant say whether or not anything is racist or objectively shitty or whatnot and if youre in my situation i recommend you follow suit. that being said its just kind of a shame that all the main cast were designed to be very pale/european/american/etc but thats just what happened. i have a story that mostly includes pale/white main cast too just because i designed most of them in middle school and ive grown up around 97% wealthy white people /srs. this isnt really a complaint about the story per se just like a preference i suppose

all of the early ship/yaoi stuff…… mcp has obviously veered away from that and encouraged people to give it a rest but the influence of shipping culture especially in parts 1-2 and maybe early 3 is VERY apparent. its not like the main four are establishing a polycule and kissing every 3 pages or anything but especially with carmelos initial crush on rudy (the panels where he stops hitting him because hes being gay) and emilio being affectionate to rudy when he corners him in the hallway with the knife. its definitely There. in some cases (like the latter but im kinda biased ahhahahahaha.) it can add to their characterization and its really not that intense. only if you squint. but im falling asleep and needed things for the list

personally i think chris and mr adderstongs relationship being suggestive/sexual was kind of unnecessary but again not an objective failimg just a personal preferenxe. they make me homophobic /JOKE

tobimilio. lorddd do i have thoughts on tobimilio. when i look at this dynamic (as a romantic pairing not just their dynamic in general THIS IS IMPORTANT) its crucial to note the original context of cards and how tobias and emilio were ALREADY established to be romantically involved AS ADULTS in the original universe. so thats why i dont instantly hate tobimilio fans or anything. that said im not a fan of the age gap in ghost eyes regardless and im sure there was/is(?) some way to portray a reflection of the original dynamic differently without the romance (and in a way weve kind of seen that in recent chapters???tobias doesnt seem very interested in emilio romantically which i really like lol) because even though tobias is a very intelligent boy and academically on the level of a senior in terms of his social skills and general wisdom about basically how the entire world works (which is especially important for things like relationships!!!!!!!!) he is like 10 years old /j so he should not be being treated like an adult/senior in EVERY way. like he should not be infantilized by any means but his ass is not mature enough to make well informed and emotionally mature decisions. unfortunately mr murkmere over here cant look past his obsession with this little freak among other things. hits him over the head with an anvil (affectionate)(I HATE HIM I HOPE HE DIES)
