That’s Right (Locked Groove) VINYL ONLY Mr KS has made a significant start to his musical career with his debut release on Djebali’s revered label, also being the first artist to appear on the imprint other than Djebali himself. His impressive debut immediately caught our attention at Tsuba towers and reminded us of a young Dyed Soundorom, demonstrating a certain edge to his grooves coupled with crisp and powerful production. This promising start continues on this second Mr KS release, the ‘Making Beats’ EP. The lead cut shows his penchant for a killer groove coupled with a distinctive spoken word vocal about a passion for making beats. B1 ‘That’s Right’ walks a similar path with an undeniably groovy and swinging bassline and B2 ‘Building’ shows Mr KS is no one trick pony with a deeper slower vibe. The result is the "Making Beat EP", the producer's tribute to bumping underground house grooves. The title track has all the qualities I dig on in a house record, crowd noise, an irresistible bassline with a heavy dose of the funk and a killer sample. The spoken vocal regales us with the narrator's love of music and beat production, and he even asks us if we're having a good time. If you're thinking about Oliver $'s Moodymann sampling "Doin' My Thing", then you'd be on the right lines. Keeping this killer jam company on the A-side is a useful little acapella and a locked groove, and we know how often one of those can dig you out of a hole. On the flip, Mr KS serves up a deep and bubbling groovathon in the form of "That's Right", which does its best to do some melon twisting with a reversed keyboard line. Following swiftly on is "Building", which takes the ingredients of "That's Right" and lets the flavours develop a little for the more discerning palate." Picadilly Records
