original salted pretzel @ Mr. Pretzel’s
Freshly baked carb always always so goooooood & pretzels are no exception!
I don’t recall how many times I have walked past this place inside Edmonton City Centre. .. but every time I pass it, there’s a short line of customers, & the smell! The smell is so good! I don’t know how else to describe it.
I finally tried it.
I went on Sunday (Nov. 25th) bcos I was there to shop around & there was no line-up!
Never looked at the menu till then. Tbh, it was not as pricey as I had expected. All flavours were <$4, so I think it’s very reasonable.
Besides the farmers market, I’m not entirely sure where else you can get fresh pretzels in Edmonton. Does anyone know? As in, before Mr. Pretzels came to Edmonton. I’ve tried the farmers market ones a handful of times throughout the yrs. . but that’s about it. The other times, I’ve had it in the States.
I am aware that there’s savoury & sweet flavours, but the idea of sweet pretzels is weird to me- probably bcos I grew up only knowing about the “traditional” pretzel, & then later found there’s savoury ones like cheese, garlic, other spices. .. Then in the States, there’s “pizza pretzel”, where they essentially place pizza toppings on a fresh pretzel haha but vanilla strawberry!? =/ I’ll pass.
So … in the end, I go the original salted pretzel bcos the original is always the best! The shop in City Centre is a corner store so 50% of the store is exposed & so you can see the whole making-of process. They have a few ovens in the back, as well as “prep” station to create the final pretzel product. Very clean, fast, & like I said, the smell was very fragrant & inviting.
Back to the pretzel: it came out of the oven (I saw it with my own eyes from raw dough to its fully formed appearance in my hands). Hot, shiny, fragrant = 1st impression.
The taste was delicious! I loved the outer layer “crunch”, & how the inside is super soft. Plus the occasional crunch from the granulated salt that lingers in your mouth for a while. .. oh it was so tasty!
Side note: I did some research on Mr. Pretzels & found out that it originated as a kiosk in Puerto Rico. I thought that was an interesting fun fact haha
Oh my gosh Mr Pretzels pretzel are so amazing! I love the cinnamon and sugar ones. They're like my drug addiction, it's crazy!
My wonderful boyfriend bought me a cinnamon and sugar soft pretzel earlier. It was delicious and I devoured it.
Thankyou James ♥
