Devon, I have a question. I am looking at the YorkU and Ryerson websites for their journalism programs. Firstly, which one do you go to? How competetive is it? What do you have to do for the portfolios? Why am I so fucking nervous about applying? Thank you.
First: Don't even bother going to York.Their journalism program sucks.
Second:I go to UofT Scarborough. I personally love this program because it allows you to take a minor in something so you're leaving uni with a specialist degree for journalism and a minor in anything you'd like plus a certificate for journalism from centennial college. My program, however is SUPER competitive. They only take 35 students.
Third: Ryerson's journalism program is REALLY competitive. They take more students than UofT, but they get WAY more applicants. To get in to Ryerson I highly recommend joining your school paper. Get as many articles as you possibly can published for your portfolio. If I remember correctly, the portfolios consist of a short essay, 3 published or unpublished works, and a hand written summary of your qualifications.
