even though you and ryujin went to the same highschool, you only ever noticed each other at one of your mom's galas. your dad was a famous politic, and your mom? well, she'd been doing business with ryujin's father since you can remember. so, you already had an advantage when you met, and it was the ability to avoid the whole "my dad/mom is a crime lord" conversation

needless to say, you were also going through training of your own, and meeting someone your age who knew exactly how that felt, was refreshing. plus she was pretty, and hot, you couldn't decide whether you liked her in pretty dresses or suits and leather jackets more.

she was pretty quick to start flirting, and the next time you run into each other (this time for an operation your parents wanted you to attend), you hookup in the back of her car. and then at school, at lia's party, and then again in her house when her parents were out traveling. no one is surprised, and by no one i mean jisu who saw bite marks above your right breast when you change in front of her like usually. the next day, she notices ryujin's own marks under her ear with a shaking head.

you do the whole "friends with benefits" thing for a few months, you go on a few dates with a couple different girls, but you were both falling for the other fast and hard. so she asks to be 'exclusive' friends with benefits first. that doesn’t help much at all though. because she still finds herself wanting to make you laugh more often. sometimes cuddling you after sex, and she even sneaks hello and goodbye pecks whenever she can, but she can't keep it quiet for much longer, the pitter pat of her heart was getting louder every day she spent with you and she was worried you might hear it.

you already thought a date with her was more than worth it, but you enjoyed the way her cheeks flare up and she nods quickly and nervously in response. so the date jisu and you had planned to just hang out at the mall and buy yourself pretty clothes, turned into the two of you looking for an outfit that was nice yet versatile enough that no matter what ryujin had planned you wouldn't look out of place

you had only been on a couple dates when that one talent show happened, and it could explain the nerves that ryujin told yuna about when they were folding pamphlets, but ryujin still felt the butterflies in her stomach and the drying of her throat even after marrying you.

she knew quickly she wanted to spend the rest of her life with you, and it scared her to think you could've thought differently about her. while your relationship was never perfect, and there were times when the two of you found yourselves questioning whether being together was even the right thing to do, she couldn't see the rest of her life without you. and honestly, neither could you.

and you weren't surprised when she proposed, partly because of that one conversation you had about wanting to be with each other forever, but also because yuna and lia were too obvious, and so was she. you say yes, to no one's surprise of course, and the next thing you know, your relationship has unlocked another sort of level the two of you are eager to begin

years later though, when ryujin and you take over your family businesses, move in together and all, when it feels like the two of you have been through everything together, she often finds herself mentally patting her own back in praise for having the guts to ask you out.

“im sorry, im so sorry” tears filled her eyes as she realized it was you, as both yours and her gears turned in your heads making you come to the conclusion this was the end to your friendship.

“ma, this is jisu. jisu, this is my mom!” you’ve basically dragged her here. you’ve been dying for your mom to meet your best friend, and to be honest, she’s been eager to meet your mom as well.

“hi” she waves small and stands there awkwardly, your mom only giving her a warm smile hoping to make her comfortable.

“it’s nice to meet you sweetheart, are you girls hungry?” your friend is still a bit shy, but you nod quickly and let your mom know she could prepare any sort of food for the two of you, that jisu had no current food allergies and she enjoyed just about everything before dragging her with you to the living room.

she takes in your home, it looks so expensive, yet warm and full of love. she knows what your mom did as a living, and sadly, not because of you…

“darling” her mom greets her as she enters the office, leaning on her father’s desk while he remained sat on his own, big chair.

“you called?“

“sit down, we have a favour to ask of you.” jisu follows, worried by the serious expression on both her parents’ faces.

“her mom” both of them point at the same time.

so it begins, it’s important to remember jisu was never really aware of her parent’s plans. she didn’t know they planned to hurt any of you, she just thought they wanted to win some stupid war that’s been going on between the families for decades.

she thinks it’s harmless, so she tries sitting closer to you in classes, start small conversations over professors that you soon enough would be laughing at together. it takes you little time to grow close to her, bring her everywhere with you, share your darkest secrets with her, you truly thought she was your best friend.

it’s your engagement party when you find out, your father had asked you to get your mother’s precious film camera, that happened to be in her office where you find her more-so going through her desk, jisu’s own mother on speaker asking her for specific documents.

“sometimes your dad still scares me, i mean-“ ryujin pushes the door with the hand that isn’t holding your waist, only for the two of you to be surprised by the sight in front of you.

“hey” your brows furrow in confusion, hearing her whisper a ‘mom, i’ll call you back’ more than frightened as she hangs up and straightens her posture. “what are you doing down here?”

“right here? by her mom’s contracts?” ryujin asks, stepping beside you “was that really a coincidence?”

unlike you, ryujin knew of her family and their business, not out of hatred like with yeji, just out of awareness, her father had informed her of everyone interested in their spot at the top of a small chain, just in case. once she realized how important you were to her, she made sure to know who she needed to be aware of that could ever slightly disrupt your safety. sadly, she never wanted to believe jisu could actually be one of them.

“what were you doing jisu?” it’s you who asks this time, somehow worried about the answer she could give you.

the first time ryujin stepped into señorita, it was for a prank yuna had prepared for her 21st birthday. yuna managing to find a way inside the club herself didn't surprise her at all. now, you and ryujin were already, together, and she didn't want to stir anything in your relationship, which is why it was all in the beginning, a prank. she spoke to you about it first, and when she got your approval, she began planning everything.

several of ryujin's friends were there, so were some of the shin's and your own bodyguards, just in case. first, ryujin's embarassed, giggling and covering her face with the hand that isn't holding yours with heat creeping on to her cheeks when several dancers start to grind on her and attach themselves to her body. next, she starts having fun, more with you than with everyone, as you spend most of the time licking salt off each other's necks and biting lime slices from each other's lips, but also with the red head that came every now and then to the stage to give her a show.

“let’s have dinner first dear” mrs. hwang throws a gentle smile at your fiancé, who squeezes her hand tighter around your thigh when she feels yeji look at you for what she feels is too long. you however, lace your fingers with hers, smiling at yeji, knowing ryujin would see it, and it would pull the older’s stare from your neck, probably from the red- purple mark peeking from the pulse point under your ear.

neither of you let go of each other’s hand, even as you try to eat with your non dominant. yeji starts to glare instead of just looking, ryujin would probably bring it up in the drive back home, but you can’t risk anyone’s humor shifting just like that

“you probably know why we invited you here, right?” Yeji leads a bite of lettuce to her lips right after.

“you could refresh our memory, if we’re being honest” ryujin shrugs, not really thinking of the attitude in her voice when speaking to her.

“we want to buy you out” she looks at ryujin, and then you. “both of you”

“ha” she laughs “we’re not interested” she tries to get up

“no no- hear us first dear” yeji’s mother holds her hand out

so cue the hour and forty five minutes all three of the hwangs try to convince you why they would somehow manage all your spots better than you.

“well” ryujin starts, but you interrupt

“dinner was amazing” your used napkin now rests on the table. “but, we simply cannot accept your offer”

“i can go higher” but ryujin only tuts at the mans offer, so desperate. she too- places her napkin on the table as she gets up and meets you behind the chairs.

“family business, you know?“ her hand is once again tangled in yours

“we hope we can work together in the future though” you shrug, tugging ryujin to you “just not like this”

your fiance doesn’t give them time to grief their failure when she bursts a “we’ll, be going now” and makes the two of you powerwalk out of there, missing the glare yeji was throwing your way.

yuna and ryujin met at the ages of 6 and 8. ryujin was still much into playing with dolls back then, it's how she and yuna first bonded at some uncle's funeral. neither of them knew the guy, but their parents thought it was important they attended with them anyway, you know, to show their respects.

they got so comfortable around each other in just a couple of hours, that before they left, ryujin was tugging on her mom's dress to ask if yuna could stay over. unfortunately, she said no, something about it being a school night and it already being too late for the two of them.

that however, didn't stop ryujin of asking again for her ninth birthday, she was having a couple of friends over for a sleepover, and her mom gladly made the call to yuna's father to invite her. it had been a couple of weeks, so as expected, their interests changed quickly, and while yuna was still into dolls, just a more expensive kind, ryujin was already asking everyone to play cops and criminals. but not to be misunderstood, yuna got the hang of it pretty quickly, and soon, it was enough of a good game for ryujin whenever her cousin would come over every sunday and it would be just the two of them tyring to solve or create a fake crime case.

the older then realized, she had seen yuna's dad before. she did every sunday, he would come over, ruffle her hair and say how much she's grown, or how he liked whatever shoes she was wearing that day, drop her a twenty dollar bill (every visit) and then go right into her dad's office where the two of them would sit and talk for hours. sometimes he'd share anecdotes of when she was born and how he was the first shin member other than her dad to carry her, or days where he babysat her while her parents went on dates, but that's about it.

they got closer after, of course. because the trips to the lake that once involved yuna and her dad, eventually included ryujin too. he would teach them how to fish, (teach ryujin how to swim, because her dad never learned therefore couldn't teach her) and watch them as they played tag while he read his daily paper.

yuna learned after at the age of 13, ryujin and her parents would always be there for her with open arms whenever her own were going through troubles, her uncle would make homecooked meals for them, and ryujin and her mom would go on about how he never had time to cook except when yuna was there, they'd play some game on ryujin's wii for a while until her parents started complaining that they were too old for it and advise them not to stay up late, even though it was the weekend, and would then call it a night.

she was more than thankful for them at 14 when her mom moved out, promising her that she would always keep contact with yuna and that she would always be a call away. ryujin's parents provided a roof for her when her dad was too depressed to look at her, because apparently she looked too much like her mom to him. the adults knew the reason behind her mom leaving, and they also knew everything her mom promised her was a big fat lie. but she would find that after, and would cry about it on ryujin's shoulder.

"hey! guess what" the youngest (15 now) jumped on ryujins bed, earning a glare from the now blonde (thanks to yuna herself) as she messed up the lonely papers laying around her

"help me put these in order while you talk"

"sure. what are these by the way?" she drops her phone beside her and starts copying her cousin's actions

"pamphlets for the talent show on friday. you're going, right?" ryujin looks up from the paper

"about that" she smiles, guilty "how nervous does y/n make you?"

"a lot, why?" the elder answers quickly. "don't tell me you're ditching me for a boy again"

"no!" yuna quickly turns red, and starts to think of how many times she ditched ryujin in the first place for her to say that "dad called"

"really?" ryujin lets go of the papers immediately, scooting closer to yuna to hear her better "what'd he say?"

"well" the brunette also drops the pamphlet in progress "he said he was sorry. that if i allowed him, he wanted to take me out for dinner and hopefully make up for the last few years.

"that's great news yuna!" she gets on her knees and shakes her cousin, who was playing with her nails, with excitement "what'd you say?"

"he's picking me up friday at four" she looks up from her hands cautiously. "so i won't be able to third wheel with you"

"oh" ryujin sits back down wit a frown "that's okay, i'm excited for you!"

"so am i!" yuna is now the one shaking her cousin "i'm sure you'll have so much to tell me about y/n when i come back"

"i'm nervous" the blonde sighs, picking a pamphlet back up to finish it "i really want this to go well"

and yuna, even though she knew much less about dating than her cousin, specially girls, stayed up all night making the pamphlets with her and reassuring everything would be okay and that not even her nervous farting could make you change your mind about ryujin.

she was right, about both. things went well between the two of you, ryujin had so much to tell her, and so did yuna about her dad.. three months later, yuna moved back in with him, and all four of her, ryujin, and her parents cried as if they were never going to see her again, but at least she had something to laugh about on the drive.

of course, yuna and ryujin texted all the way to her house. and not much changed after that, her relationship with her dad was better than ever. she still hung out with ryujin at least once a week (she finally meets you too), her cousin is still invited to the lake on the weekends, and she still crashes at ryujin's whenever she misses her uncle's homemade stew.

it was at age 20 that yuna felt like she was paying for some horrible sin she committed in her past life.

yuna and ryujin are both 16 when they find out about the family business. of course, ryujin knew and was already being trained far before yuna, so the youngest isn't surprised when she tells her she'll be stepping up with their fathers at age 20.

she knew that meant less yuna and ryujin time and more ryujin meeting with her father and uncle, but she also knew it would come sooner or later, so she doesn't oppose to it, also because she was aware that her word had no weight against the elders. eventually, her uncle handed over his position to ryujin, not wanting to wait until something happened to him to leave such a big weight on her back. of course, he would still be there for whenever she needed advice, she just, would be making the decisions for now.

yet she got involved younger than ryujin, knowing it would make her closer to her dad, she took the opportunity as soon as it was given to her. so she was also looking forward to the day when she officially became ryujin’s right hand, yuna was so excited for her dad to finally pass down his job to her. but if you told her three years before that it’s be because she'd watch her dad fall to his knees after being shot. that she couldn’t run to him because you would drag her inside with you while ryujin and her dad figure everything out even though both you and yuna were perfectly trained for these situations.

if she knew, if someone told her, maybe she would’ve held back on the whole “dad, im a big girl now, i want to work with you”. if she knew, she would have told her dad it wasn’t a good idea to go to the event in the first place. she was heartbroken. and she didn’t know how far she could make it after this.
