Introduction: The talented and charismatic Omaha-born Wynonie Harris sang the effervescent pioneering song “Good Rockin’ Tonight” (1948). Harris, born in 1915, broke into the music scene in the Great Depression as a dancer, and later graduated to the Los Angeles music scene, where he became known locally as “Mr. Blues.” He enjoyed a string of major R&B hits between 1946 and 1953, establishing him as one of the key performers in the early years of the genre. This song was remade in 1984 by The Honeydrippers, a short-lived creation of Led Zeppelin veterans Robert Plant, Jimmy Page and classic rock guitarist Jeff Beck (all three HUGE Harris fans). Sadly, Harris died in 1969 of esophageal cancer.
