After demoing over Easter break we turned to a month of writing and we now have every original how we want it to sound. Really there isn’t much changes made and if it’s anything it’s minor but it’s still made a big difference and we couldn’t be any happier with how everything is sounding. This month we have a lot of planning to do for the upcoming EP. Track choices will be made, an album cover will be designed, further funding will be done, booking will take place, etc. So it’s pretty much all go, no more being quiet and more making noise.
Continuing with last month’s theme this month’s song is also about bullying. This one a very specific type of bullying, cyber. The internet is a very dangerous place. It’s very easy to say something behind a screen, you’ve got a place to hide, face to face is a little different. Especially with anonymous sites these days, in specific ask.fm. This song is based around an event that happened on this website with my friend and an anonymous foe. I am completely against the site for anyone that uses it. The site should be removed from the internet, app stores and etc. It has done enough damage to people’s lives without it continuing.
Hannah Smith, 14, found hanged after months of abuse on Ask.fm
Rebecca Ann Sedwick a.k.a “That Dead Girl”, 12, jumped from the top of a factory in Florida after 1 year of abuse on Ask.fm
Joshua Unsworth, 15, found hanged after months of abuse on Ask.fm
Daniel Perry, 17, jumped from the forth road bridge Edinburgh after abuse on Ask.fm
Jessica Laney, 16, committed suicide after abuse on Ask.fm
Ciara Pugsley, 15, committed suicide after abuse on Ask.fm
Erin Gallagher, 13, committed suicide after abuse on Ask.fm
Here we have 7 examples. Why it still exists after the tears, hurt, self-harm and suicide’s it has caused is beyond me. I strongly encourage any users to delete their account and boycott the website and to sign petitions to shut down the website.
Asm.fm isn’t even the major problem here, it is only a source. It’s the anonymous users sending malicious messages that is causing what had started as a simple question and answer site into the venomous bullying it has become. Cyber bullying has become a massive issue in the past few years. It happens more than just on Ask.fm, take other social networks such as Facebook and Twitter. The only hope we have to end it is to shut down the internet but the useful source it is this is not an option. It’s the people causing the damage that need to stop. The phrase “if you don’t have anything nice to say don’t say it at all” goes a long way. Living by this, teaching this could cut off this problem and bullying in general. To the bullies, don’t be a Mr. Anonymous. To the victim’s, don’t let it happen and don’t stand for it. Together we can put an end to this.
Those shoes, you wear,
Well, I hope their comfortable,
Cause you’re doing a lot of talking,
Now it’s to see you walking?
Open your ears,
Open your eyes,
You hear and see using your, small, mind,
And small minds, shouldn’t run a big mouth.
You hide,
Behind lies,
And that device you grip, so, tight,
Mr. Anonymous, you can’t treat her like this,
Cause we’ve got her back,
And all you’ve got is a screen,
Using words as knives,
Running round leaving scars,
But where’s your protection,
When we’re face to face,
A coward only threatens,
When he thinks he is safe.
Think before you speak,
And speak before it’s too late,
But be sure to taste your words before you spit them out.
Don’t believe all you’re told.
And don’t buy all you’re sold.
His story and her story, are two different things,
But the truth lies, the truth lye’s in between.
Step up,
Step out,
Don’t let them keep you down,
Stand before your weakness now,
He hides,
Behind lies,
And that device he grips, so, tight,
Mr. Anonymous, won’t get away with this,
Cause we’ve got your back,
And all he’s got is a screen,
Using words as knives,
Running round leaving scars,
But where’s his protection,
When we’re face to face,
A coward only threatens,
When he thinks he is safe.
Think before you speak,
And speak before it’s too late,
But be sure to taste your words before you spit them out.
Don’t believe all you’re told.
And don’t buy all you’re sold.
His story and her story, are two different things,
But the truth lies, the truth lye’s in between.
Those shoes, you wear,
Well, I hope their comfortable,
Cause you’re doing a lot of talking,
Now it’s to see you walking?
Think before you speak,
And speak before it’s too late,
But be sure to taste your words before you spit them out.
Don’t believe all you’re told.
And don’t buy all you’re sold.
His story and her story, are two different things,
But the truth lies, the truth lye’s in between.
