Going Green Guide for Beginners
1. Start a compost pile
Whether or not you have been interested in starting a compost pile, now is the time to get started! Americans throw out plenty of items that would normally get sent to an overflowing dump, so why not recycle these things? Banana peels, coffee grounds and apple cores are all items that would be great for your compost pile, and I guarantee you throw out at least one of these items a day. Here is a link that we recommend for a first timer: http://www.blog.riverbendhome.com/how-to-compost-infographic/. Using a wireless remote controlled spotlight can not only illuminate your compost pile but will deter unwanted animals from rummaging through your recyclables.
2. Dry laundry outside
Spring time will be perfect for airing out your worn and tired sheets that have collected skin cells all winter. After washing your sheets, throw them on a rack in your backyard and let mother nature do her thing! Not only are you saving money on your electric bill, your sheets will smell fresh and lovely. The 10 minute timer setting on the Mr Beams remote controlled spotlight will give you time to set up your laundry any time of the day.
3. Start gardening
Although it seems intimidating, you can quickly learn how to polish that green thumb of yours. Getting produce out of your own garden is not only convenient for you, but saves money on gas to bring produce to grocery stores. If you are short on daylight, a remote controlled spotlight will keep your garden well lit while you prune and primp your greens. And keep an eye out for our gardening blog series in May for tips on different types of gardening!
4. Greenhouse
Who could possibly start their own greenhouse? You can, by using a plastic container and paper cups. Studies show that having plants in your home will actually make you more happy! Once your greenhouse begins to grow, light it up with a remote controlled spotlight. You will be able to scare off any pesky animals that mess with your little green home. Follow these instructions to get your mini greenhouse started: http://prairiecottagerose.blogspot.ca/2012/05/mini-greenhouses.html.
5. Energy Efficient LED Lights
Use any of our Mr Beams spotlights to light up your compost pile, laundry, garden or greenhouse. Interested? Get your preview here.
