CLUELESS || 3K WORDS MALE ROVER has a problem, a serious one! READER tries her best to give all the clues, signs, anything at this point but MALE ROVER is just so clueless!
"OH MY LOVE YOU'VE FINALLY ARRIVED!"
The voice filled with an odd sense of comfort, tenderness, and intimacy— but the owner of these pair of ears grew confused. It was directed at them, but did they even know them?
Rover turned his head, searching for the source of the mystery, and his eyes landed on a masked being, beautiful gown, a gloved hand reaching out for his own. Was it because this night was a night filled with entertainment, that others might seem to make a few mix-ups here and there, or is it because this was a night filled with masked fellows, such as this woman here, that some may need to flee from others?
Rover didn't know why, but he didn't run or turn away from this woman; only then did he pull her in— as soon as his eyes landed on a fellow behind her, making his way with such haste.
The masked woman, eyes lingering on his face, hid the discomfort. Her smile, never faltering, showed what others might call love.
"Signora! Please, where are you running off to?" The man asked.
"Signora.. at least he has manners to refer to me with such titles.." The lady muttered. Rover's eyes moved from the man and now onto the lady in front of him.
'Signora.. means she's a person of nobility..' The thought made its way into Rover's mind, giving him a keen sense of how to manage this.
A smile made it onto his face, arm gradually finding its place around her frame.
"It's been a while, hasn't it?"
The woman's smile only grew when the words reached her ears. Before a word was made, the man had finally made his way up to the pair.
"Signora—"
"Can't you see that I am with Caro Mio? Svanisci, come nebbia al mattino, e lasciami nel mio silenzio. Goodbye." The lady said, words laced with annoyance.
If only Rover understood most of the words she said, but his ears only grew warm from the first two, caro mio- my love? Isn't she carrying this a bit too far? But it seems the man did, instead his face grew red, hot with anger, disbelief.
"Vanish like morning mist, and leave me in my silence?! Who are you to speak to me like that?! Sciocco... All you women are the same— shadows dancing on the same worn stage, forever bound to repeat the lies of your own deceit." The man let out in fury.
'Fool, he says..' The woman thought, yet as her head turned in his direction, the grin that made its way onto her face, the hint of mischief in her eyes as the fowl word gracefully fell out her mouth.
"Bitch."
Gasps fell from both males' mouths as the lady— known as Signora Y/N, or in english terms, Lady Y/N, dragged Rover away with a triumphant smile planted right onto her face.
Rover had no clue what had happened, what was happening, and what might happen, but all he knew was that night was the first of many things actually. Nights, days, evenings, all filled with her— Signora Y/N.
The sun has been beaming down onto the land, gifting the people with its light for quite some time now, and here lie two females of different backgrounds. A known acolyte of The Order of the Deep, a devoted, kindhearted lady, Phoebe. Beside her is a lady of high standing, noble birth, kind..hearted? We think so... Signora Y/N.
The ladies were seated together, enjoying a cup of tea. From afar, it would seem as if it were just a casual lady's day out, but from up close, it is quite the opposite.
"Quit the lies Phoebe.. I know YOU know who I am speaking of.." Y/N mumbled into her cup. Phoebe, on the other hand, tried her best to hide the guilt on her face. She could never in her life lie to her close friend.
"Y/N.. please.."
"Please what? I've seen you two before. What was it again? Out fishing?"
The guilt only built up, Y/N could've sworn she saw steam exiting from the poor lady's head, but that only made the Signora huff in confidence. She was correct, and she will not back down.
It's not like Phoebe wants to keep Rover to herself, but then again, who wouldn't.. anyways, it's that when Y/N wants something, someone, once she gets her hands on it, there is no letting go.
Phoebe is only just trying to save Rover, as he is a man of adventure, he doesn't just stay.
"You won't back down on this.. won't you?" Phoebe sighed out.
"That night we met, it was only by chance.. That.. ugh, he acts like a king yet begs like a jester.." Y/N cringed, thinking about the mini chase she had, which brought her to Rover.
Y/N sighed, adding a few sugar cubes to her cup, resting her head in her palm.
"At the very least, I would love to thank the man.."
As the words fell out of her lips, Phoebe finally made up her mind.
"..Okay then, I'll let you meet him."
"Really?!" Y/N's face lit up. Phoebe smiled at her friend's reaction, deep down knowing that there's more that's going to come with this introduction.
Y/N stood up, dusting off the imaginary dust off her dress, and motioned to Phoebe.
"Well? Let's go."
"Wait- Right now?!"
"Time waits for no one Phoebe, so yes. Right now."
There is no stopping this Signora.
.
.
.
"Thanks again man!"
The man only nodded with a smile. His head turned in the direction of the lady beside him, waiting for her words.
"Very good, Rover, you may leave for today. You didn't need to, but thank you for your help." Zani said, fixing her gloves.
Rover smiled at her words, food instantly flooded his mind. Lunch sounds good right now. He bid his friend goodbye and made his way towards Trattoria Margherita.
The walk was pleasant, passersby greeted him with a smile, a small hi, or in a bathtub! As the restaurant came clear in his view, the sound of heels slowly crept into his ears.
He didn't think much of it as he is in public but.. for some reason it feels as if it's following him.
Before he got a say in anything, an action being performed, a hand from behind made its way into his face and a small cherry was held right infront of him.
His eyebrows rose in confusion, one may mistake him for a confused puppy.
"Are you hungry?" A very familiar voice asked, very, very close to his ear.
Slowly, Rover turned around and wasn't greeted with a masked lady, but instead the full view, the full beauty. A smirk, one filled with mischief, how could he forget this lady?
"Very nice to meet you again, Signora Y/N." Rover greeted, a small smile on his face.
Y/N only tilted her head in response, retreating her hand.
"My question, your answer?"
"Huh?.. Oh, yeah. I was on my way to Trattoria Margherita. Would you like to join me?"
"How could I ever decline such a man like you?"
He only laughed at her words, turning around to continue his journey.
Y/N, on the other hand, a small pout forming. Either he's dense or he's ignoring her words and actions. She grumbled to herself, shoving the cherry in her mouth, yet gradually followed the man.
You see, the original plan was for Phoebe to introduce the pair, but the Order called her in, leaving Y/N by herself.
She left Y/N with a note:
"Please be kind! And don't scare him away!" She's basically saying "don't be yourself"
But clearly, Y/N didn't listen.
Both the Lady and Rover made their way to the restaurant, ordering a meal and sat next to each other.
Of course, Y/N started the conversation.
"So dear, how long are you staying in Rinascita?" She asked him.
Before Rover got a word out, an echo appeared right out of his hand, his tacet mark. This, very entitled echo, made its way in front of Y/N, hand on hips and a very serious look on its face.
"Hey you! Lady! Whadda tryna get at with Rover..!?" The echo asked, floating a bit too close to the Signora.
"Oh, it talks.. Greetings puppy. You see, this here is a conversation between two adults. Vattene." Y/N simply stated, shooing the echo away, which obviously struck a nerve with said echo.
"EXCUSE ME?!—"
"Abby, calm down. Leave Lady Y/N." A mellow voice said. Rover reached out for Abby, pulling it away from Y/N.
The fighting duo huffed at each other.
"Why should I.." Abby taunted.
"I will not waste my time on this creature."
The man sighed.
"Sorry Lady—"
Now it was Y/N's turn to sigh.
"Please cease with the Lady and Signora. Only those who are below me may use it."
The confused look returned on the man's face, causing Y/N to grin.
"Cute." She stated.
"Huh?"
She only laughed and shook her head.
"Those below me, as in everyone. Unless I personally tell you to not use it."
His mouth formed an "O" shape after the Lady explained. She relaxed into the seat, eyes making their way to the echo, stretching her hand out towards it.
"What." Abby barked at her.
"Come here."
The echo glared at her, but did as she said. Y/N pulled Abby down onto her lap, catching it off guard and whaled out loud.
"Oh, calm down, think of this as my apology." Y/N jestered out with a smile. Abby complained until Y/N let it go. Finally, the echo made its way back to its owner, gripping onto Rover's shoulder as if Y/N was going to attack at any minute.
Yet she stayed in her seat, leaning forward as she crossed her legs, resting her elbow on her knee, followed by her head in her palm.
"Dear, you didn't answer my question."
"Huh?" Rover asked out.
"How long are you staying here?"
"Oh.. I don't really have a date in mind." He muttered, looking away in thought.
The Lady in front of him only let out a small giggle, watching his small reactions. If only she could make him blush..
"Dear."
"Hm?" He let out, breaking his train of thought as he focused his attention on the lady.
Y/N stared at his face, not a speck of blush anywhere. Just a confused puppy look. "No need to think so hard, might pop a vessel, we don't want that, do we?"
He only shook his head in response, slowly killing Y/N inside, yet she sighed.
"You're lucky you're pretty dear.."
"Huh?"
Yet the Lady rose from her seat, leaving a note behind on the table for the man to read.
"Please, don't hesitate to call me.
- Signora."
Rover stared at it, but then a thought came to his mind.
"She didn't stay for her food.."
"Oh, who cares!? I'll eat it!"
It has been many moons since that meet-up with the Rover.
Here lies the Signora, on her bed with the moon gently kissing her face. She twists and turns in the bed, one thought haunting her.
"He is yet to call me.." She muttered.
She rose from her bed, eyes landing on the mountain of letters Phoebe sent her, all related to Rover.
When Phoebe isn't available, Lady Y/N loves to write her letters; she really uses her device. Yet here she is, begging it to ring at least once.
The lady got off her bed, making her way towards her walk in closet to change out of her nightwear.
"Suddenly, I want to have a late-night walk." She muttered.
The Lady left her estate, cloak around her shoulders, as she let her feet take her.
On her nightly walk, her eyes landed on a small group. Curiosity grew over the Lady as she made her way to see what seemed to be so important at 1:02 A.M.
There was a man in a hood, selling questionable bottles.
"Oddio.." She muttered, yet got closely to the man.
Signora Y/N is just a lady of words and action, yet she is not a resonator. So one with sense may ask what she is doing, but we digress.
As soon as the man's eyes landed on the Lady, he extended his hand and offered her a bottle. She huffed at his bold move.
"Foolish man, how dare you offer unknown substances to me?" Y/N barked, yet the man did not back down.
Signora wanted to show him that she would not back down either, so she took the bottle and simply walked away.
But remember when we made it clear that curiosity had grown over the lady? Her eyes lingered on the bottle from time to time, and once she was far away from the group, she opened the bottle.
It had no smell, no matter how much she tried. So without thinking, she stuck her finger in and licked it.
"...Water? What is this.." She muttered.
She then took a full sip, gulping it down, but it tasted of nothing.
"..With all due grace, what the fuck did I just drink?"
She sighed, closing the bottle, and made her way to the closest bin.
Before her hand could reach out to dispose of the bottle, something weird began to happen. Her body became.. lighter.
She stared at the floor for a bit until she noticed that..
"I'm.. floating?"
.
.
.
"I heard that there's this researcher going around handing out his experiments to see what effect will take place on non-resonators.. Please find him, it is causing a problem."
Zani's words stuck to Rover like glue. He was given the order earlier today, yet luck wasn't on his side, as the whole day, he could not locate the researcher.
But his eyes did land on a floating someone and er.. her screams.
"Lady..?" He muttered, jogging to her location.
As he got closer, the louder her complaints became.
"WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND GIVES OUT DRINKS THAT MAKE YOU FLOAT? I SWEAR TO SENTINAL—"
"Calm down, Signora! Whaling around in the air will only tire you out!"
Y/N looked down and made eye contact with Rover.
"HOW AM I—"
Yet before she could finish, she was now falling straight down. Luckily for her, Rover has the best sense of direction and caught her, making her land perfectly in his arms.
He offered her a comfort smile, knowing on the Lady is.
"Would you guide me in the direction of where you got that experiment?"
"EXPERIMENT?!"
The Lady exhaled through her nose, calming herself.
"I will." She simply stated.
The Rover let her down as she gave him the directions. The man followed it, leaving her behind with a certain someone.
"You."
Lady Y/N turned in the direction of the voice and was greeted with Abby.
"Hello to you too."
Abby smirked and began blabbering.
"So I've picked up something. You like Rover!"
"Tell me something I don't know please." She muttered, checking her nails, which caused Abby to roll its eyes.
"It's kinda funny watching you fail at flirting with him. So I made a plan for you! It will 100% work!"
Now that has caught the lady's attention.
"Spill."
It was the next day, and the friends were finally back together!
Both Phoebe and Y/N were seated next to each other, talking about past events that had occurred. Which got the Lady talking about what had happened last night.
"You.. floated?" Phoebe asked out loud.
"Yeah, something about diluted Tacet Discord essence, the researcher was playing around with it and it reacted differently with me since I'm not a resonator, but anyways I'm gonna be a bit busy today!" The lady shot an earful.
"Busy? With?"
"I'm going echo hunting!"
...
"Uh, why?"
"No reason." She simply smiled.
The mini date ended with Lady Y/N bidding her friend goodbye and made her way towards the spot.
You see, that night, Abby went back to Rover and told him..
.
.
"That lady girl, she said she needed help collecting echos!"
"Lady Y/N? Why?" Rover asked, wrapping things up with the researcher.
"Uh.. because she needs them?"
"..."
.
.
Rover agreeing to this is still a mystery to uncover, but that isn't one of her many problems as of right now. Right now, the smirk that seemed to be forming only grew bigger when Rover's eyes landed on her.
"Are you ready?"
"Of course, lead the way, dear."
The adventure was, to her surprise, very calming. The beauty of her homeland played a small part, not to mention the feeling of security of being guided by the one everyone looks up to.
But all that soon came crashing down when Lady Long Eye— I mean Lady Y/N found herself fascinated with a chest, walking away without saying a word. Only then, when her curse reached the man's ears, was he aware.
"CHE DIAVOLO?!" She screamed out as the chest began chasing her. She ran into Rover's arms, clinging onto him for dear life.
"Calm down, Lady. Though, please let go, I need to fight it." He complained. The Lady let go and only hid behind him as she saw more appear.
The Lady witnessed, for the first time, Rover in battle. It only made her attraction for him grow.
The way he swung his sword, his fearless words that was laced with comfort. If only.. he wasn't so clueless.
Her train of thought was then broken when he made his way back, holding a piece of paper.
"Is this yours Signora?" He asked her.
The Lady checked her pockets and realized that her letter was missing, the one that was filled to the brim with complaints about the said dense man.
But as his eyes analyzed the paper a bit more... a lightblud went off.
"Wait.. is this about me?"
.
.
.
"Caro Mio.. are you.. for real?"
