Oblivious
Mrs.Greene isn’t oblivious to her daughter’s life, quite the opposite in fact. Mrs.Greene likes to know what Alyssa is doing from day to day, she likes knowing her daughter is safe. Now that Alyssa is older Mrs.Greene struggles to keep up with her daughter’s life, but she’s not oblivious.
It started a year ago. Alyssa got quieter. She didn’t talk to her about what was going on at school and with friends. She closed herself off from Mrs.Greene. But she was happier. Mrs.Greene noticed how Alyssa was a lot more comfortable in certain times in life, except for in school. There was something different going on and Mrs.Greene was determined to figure it out.
Then she heard her. She heard the late-night phone calls, the not-so quiet ‘I love you’ spoken into her phone almost nightly. Mrs.Greene knew there was someone who was making Alyssa happy. Her first thought was of a boyfriend.
After nearly a year it dawned on Mrs.Greene. She saw how Alyssa’s eyes would follow the waitress when they were out for dinner. She noticed her taking glances at that god-awful lesbian at the pta meetings. She didn’t know why Alyssa felt like this but Mrs.Greene felt as though she needed to prevent it.
She started taking Alyssa’s phone before bed and monitoring her social media. She made her curfew earlier. She was determined to not let her daughter go down the wrong path.
Mrs.Greene wasn’t ok with whatever her daughter was feeling but she sure as hell wasn’t oblivious to it.
