— FIRST MEETING -> Where did you two first meet? At the gym, of course. Even before joining Blue Lock, Kunigami was very dedicated to working out and training. He’s fond of jogging around his neighborhood and has some basic workout equipment at home, but if he wants to use any large equipment or jog indoors on winter days that are just a bit too cold? You’ll find him at the gym! Perhaps you recently moved to Akita, or perhaps you’re just trying out a different gym—in any case, you first lay eyes on Kunigami there. Initially, the two of you just share brief, impersonal glances as one of you passes by the other; you’re both focused on your respective workouts, after all. But then your gaze starts lingering on him when he isn’t looking, and you swear you’ve almost caught him staring at you sometimes as well.

Social as you tend to be, you’re the one that approaches him first since you two seem to run into each other so often. It’d be nice to have a workout buddy! Kunigami can be a little awkward around strangers, but he’s not necessarily unfriendly. A friendship blooms quite naturally between you two, even if conversations are just a little stilted at first. He wouldn’t take offense if you were feeling drained and didn’t text back or feel like hanging out, though he might start wondering if he did something wrong. Poor guy.

— PARTNER PREFERENCES -> He’s a good fit for what you look for in a partner. You mention loving gymbros considering you’re a gymrat yourself, and you’d ideally want to be with someone who can share that passion with you. Honestly, Kunigami would do best with someone like that himself. It’s just such a big part of his life that he would need to be with someone that can respect the amount of time he puts into exercising at the very least, but he’d love a partner who can work out with him! So, you two are definitely a match made in heaven in that regard. He’s also tall and has a great physique, which you’ll definitely appreciate. Other than that, Kunigami is fairly easy-going and can handle both banter and more serious moments.

— PINING -> It doesn’t take long at all for Kunigami to start developing a crush on you. You’re such a genuine and warm person, always making it a point to treat people with kindness and respect and to stand up for those being mistreated, funny but emotionally intelligent… Plus the fact that he finds your optimism and love for life endearing. He’d be hard-pressed to find something to dislike about you. Kunigami is able to keep his budding feelings under wrap pretty well, though he absolutely has moments where he becomes flustered if you do something especially cute or sweet around him. He pines for you for quite a while without confessing, since he would really rather not rush into any potential relationships.

— APPETITE -> Kunigami is sweet and would never make you feel bad about your appetite. You’re obviously pretty darn healthy, given the fact that you’re so physically active. With as much as you work out, it only makes sense that you’re eating a lot. Besides, he finds people who really enjoy food to be rather endearing. (It’s not like he can say anything against a big appetite anyway, considering he’s a big eater as well). He’d love accompanying you to whatever new restaurant you want to try, and is happy to stay in and help cook a meal with you at home. Many of your dates involve food to some degree or another, even unintentionally. There are so many times where you two are just out and about elsewhere and one of you suggests “hey, let’s stop at that café!”

— SENSE OF JUSTICE -> Your strong sense of justice would appeal to him. Kunigami is someone with a strong set of morals and sense of justice himself, seen time and again in the way he insists on playing fair and giving some people the benefit of the doubt when others wouldn’t (i.e. Kuon). The bottom line is, basic respect and kindness are very important to him, and he tends to struggle with being around those who are unnecessarily mean and cold. He can’t see himself being with someone who doesn’t put effort into treating him and others well.

— POST-WILDCARD -> While there is a definite change to him post-Wildcard, Kunigami is still Kunigami. Compared to before, he’s now more withdrawn and sullen, with his focus solely being on becoming stronger, better, more skilled. He looks like all the joy has been sucked out of him… and maybe it has. Assuming you’re on the outside when he’s stuck in Blue Lock, you’re probably not going to see or hear from him until they all get that break prior to the NEL starting. Still, perhaps surprisingly given this shift in his demeanor, he does message you while on the bus back home and is willing to meet up with you. He’s… not really sure how you’ll react to how he’s changed, but decides not to think about it too much until he sees you. Honestly, he’s half-expecting a breakup and doesn’t want to get his hopes up too much because right now, he can’t see himself suddenly just acting like he used to before he went through the Wildcard program.

You noticed something might be up while he was texting you. His responses seemed a little shorter than before, but you figure maybe it’s just because he’s tired and it’s been a while since you two have even talked because of the nature of the entire Blue Lock program.

And when he eventually shows up in front of you… You are a little surprised, certainly, but your heart aches for him. Kunigami won’t tell you everything he went through—he shares some things, more general stuff about the overall structure of the program, but you can’t really glean anything that might’ve happened to cause such a distinct shift in him. All he says is that he “had to learn to be different” in order to succeed and achieve whatever it is that he wants to achieve related to Blue Lock. Regardless, though, you’re the type of person to give others the benefit of the doubt. You know he won’t admit it, but you can tell he’s struggling a little, and you’re not just going to abandon him when he might actually really need you. You can tell that he’s still him beneath that colder exterior.

✦ ADDITIONAL HEADCANONS ->

He finds your sense of style to be really unique, and pretty darn cute. He is fascinated by your piercings, and whenever you get a new one he’s really good at reminding you to do the aftercare.

Video game dates are fairly common, and he likes seeing whatever you get up to in any games that aren’t multiplayer.

You just love making him laugh, especially when you can manage to get those belly-deep guffaws out of him.

Both of you would understand the middle child struggles. It’s also very hectic whenever one of you goes to visit the other’s family, but it’s funny because you’re both obviously very used to having sisters. On a similar note, his parents absolutely adore you to bits and they easily welcome you into the family.

He’s extremely interested in your participation in drama/theatre! Any time you have a show, he’ll be there. Honestly, a lot of it is new to him, because it wasn’t an area that he was ever interested in—but he’s absolutely going to take an interest in it now, because it’s important to you.

One of Kunigami’s favorite places to kiss is that little mole by your lip.

— PERSONALITY BALANCE -> Your more social personality will help pull him out of his shell. Thankfully, you’re not obnoxious and overbearing like a certain white-haired blue-eyed sorcerer. Still, you’re friendly and more than willing to initiate conversations, which is helpful for getting to know the more closed-off types like him. You’re easy-going and try not to take things to heart even if he’s a bit curt during your first handful of interactions. But, that said, it also helps that you’re ultimately more on the introverted side. Nanami definitely needs alone time to recharge, and being with someone who can relate (and who can understand that needing space isn’t a slight against someone) is honestly so relieving. Honestly, when the two of you are still in the early stages of friendship, he probably wouldn’t think much of it if you went a few days without responding to him.

— PREFERRED TYPE AND HUMOR -> Despite his serious exterior, you find that you can actually joke around with him quite well. Initially, you weren’t quite sure how he’d take to your jokes and quips—but he responds to them surprisingly well. Sometimes he just gives you this unimpressed, deadpan look (it makes you laugh regardless), but other times you’re able to get a chuckle out of him. Sarcastic banter with him is a common occurrence, and while he is quite blunt, he’s usually not very mean about it. Considering he ended up falling into a mentor role for Yuji quite naturally, it’s safe to say he’s fairly emotionally intelligent. He might not value emotions much as a decision making tool, but he can have thoughtful, emotionally-considerate discussions when needed. All in all, he could certainly fit into your preferred type. You might be able to soften his edges a little, even.

In addition to that… Nanami may not be constantly in the gym, but he does have to stay fit given his occupation. Surely he has to work out and keep up on his training here and there, which means that you could certainly buddy up with him in the gym sometimes. Perhaps he’d start going a bit more often with you, as a way to spend a bit more time with you.

— PINING -> You’re never going to know that he fancies you. Not until he says anything, anyway. Nanami would be very much drawn to your warmth, that optimism and zest for life that motivates you. Yuji called him gloomy once—and that isn’t entirely inaccurate. He has a very pragmatic, realistic mindset… but it can be hard not to fall into more pessimistic thoughts given his line of work. Your warmth would act as a buffer for the grief that he so often has to deal with. While his growing affection for you is subtle, Nanami is not the type to beat around the bush. It wouldn’t take all that long for him to tell you, and his confession is as straightforward as ever (though still quite sweet, really; he can be a bit of a romantic at times).

— LOVE LANGUAGES -> Nanami would likely lean towards quality time and acts of service as his main love languages. Quality time being one of these shouldn’t be surprising, given the way he tries to lock down on the time spent at work. Once you’re his partner, his resolve to avoid “overtime” only solidifies further, because he wants to maximize the amount of time he is able to spend with you. He is very protective of his free time, and that includes time with you! As for acts of service, he just really likes to take care of you. Of course, he’ll still encourage self-sufficiency and independence, but he does like doting on you here and there if you’ll let him.

— SHARED LOVE FOR FOOD -> Nanami is a big foodie himself, so you’ve found yourself a kindred spirit with him. He already enjoys cooking for himself, and he’d very much enjoy cooking for you once you’re together, too, especially after seeing how much you love it. Never feel ashamed about your big appetite around him. If you want to help him cook dinner, he is thankfully not one of those people who can’t cook with others in the kitchen. You two work seamlessly together, delegating tasks without issue, and you both clean up while you go. It’s not uncommon to spend evenings making dinner, settling down on the couch, and watching a cooking show together. Of course, dinner dates out at restaurants is fairly common as well, especially when both of you have the time and energy to hit the town.

— SORCERERS AND DATING -> Dating is hard for jujutsu sorcerers. The job is often incredibly dangerous (especially so in the current era), only given to a select few with special abilities, and takes up a lot of a person’s precious time since there are so few sorcerers available to manage threats. Someone like Gojo might struggle a bit with dating a civilian, for example, due to his sheer importance and how busy he is within the world of jujutsu sorcerers. Most civilians would really struggle with understanding and accepting that, because they aren’t a part of that world. They don’t have that background knowledge, nor context surrounding why Gojo is so important. Nanami, however, has lived both lives—he could do well either with another jujutsu sorcerer, or a civilian. He does eventually want to retire and let jujutsu society live in his past, but that won’t happen for a while.

Of course, if you were a jujutsu sorcerer, that would certainly save him the trouble of trying to explain the supernatural side of life which most people aren’t even aware of. You’d understand that missions sometimes crop up unexpectedly or run late, that he’s going to come home injured sometimes, and there might be a day where he just ends up dead. You’d understand all that, because that would be your life, too. Nanami can be a bit of a worrier, though it doesn’t always show on his face. Honestly, if you were just a normal civilian, he’d have so much less to worry about in regards to your safety… (Maybe he should encourage you to take a break from being a sorcerer and go back to your studies, finish university and maybe go onto getting a masters or PhD… Hmm…) But regardless, whatever the situation is, he’s willing to tackle it.

✦ ADDITIONAL HEADCANONS ->

He lowkey malfunctions whenever you use affectionate little petnames with him. Sometimes he scowls at you a bit, but don’t stop referring to him with them, please. Keep calling him love, baby, darling, sweetheart—anything.

Nanami loves your eyes. Having bigger eyes makes you seem very youthful and curious, and he thinks they make you look so much more expressive.

While you may take bad news harder than most, Nanami can provide you with a bit of emotional stability. If you need to vent, he’ll listen. If you want solutions, he’ll help you brainstorm. Sometimes he’s a bit awkward with it, but it doesn’t take long for him to get his footing when it comes to comforting you.

He may not participate in some of your hobbies (video games, acting), but will encourage them all the same. You should be enjoying your free time as much as possible.

Admittedly, Nanami occasionally gets a little, just slightly, exasperated with your chronic lateness and lack of focus if it results in you forgetting things. But he has patience and grace, and he has no intentions of making you feel bad for it considering it is very much related to your ADHD. So long as you’re not late to—or forgetting—really important things, it’s fine.

When you guys are cuddling, especially at night as you’re both dozing off, Nanami will often trace the scar beneath your eyebrow.
