What are your thoughts on people "befriending" wild crows?
The longer I run this blog, the more I continually land back on “stop fucking with wildlife” for almost every situation. It applies to this question as well.
Most “befriending” of wild animals, including birds, involves feeding them. This not only alters their behavior around humans, but it alters their feeding behavior and subsequent nutrition. Befriending birds has the potential to change a large amount of their normal behavior, make them sick from inappropriate diets, and turn them into “nuisance animals” if the person doing it stops for some reason.
It know it’s cute and wonderful to feel like there’s special relationship with a wild animal, but a) we don’t live in Disney’s universe and b) it’s really selfish for people to decide they’re okay with altering the entire course of a animal’s life because they want a specific experience.
