Some opinions on Greg and rose:

Greg is an amazing person...who is...a lackluster father. he wasn't awful, he spent time with Steven, and loved him dearly, but he could have done more. It kinda seems like he wasn't mature enough to be a father...but that doesn't make him awful. He's still the wonderfully kind and loving person he's always been.

Rose is a reformed asshole who ended up being an incredibly kind and loving person towards the end of her life, who probably would not have made a good parent.

It's more complicated than " Greg sucks now" and "rose turned out to be evil".

They were both victims of abuse from strict abusive households. It's understandable that they messed up in giving Steven too much freedom...it's wrong, but I understand and sympathetize.
