Carol’s arrival had been delayed, yet eyes went downcast to the child as her veins ran cold. Her lungs nearly fell from her chest before she could really comprehend what had just gone down in front of her very eyes. One in which she used to look up to, someone she held very close to her. Hands clenched to fists as the cosmic waves slowly shifted across her palms. She kept them subdued, not letting such words get to her. It was what he wanted. The rise of her emotions to play against her, just as they had in the past.
❛ I always told myself there was still hope for you. That maybe one day we’d be able to reconcile our differences. Be close again. ❜ She stifled the emotion that ran through her voice, yet it slipped through. Her gaze rose, eyes blackened with rage. Her blood ran hot as lava through her body, a display of lights coursing over her body, heightening with power. ❛ You’re right. I can’t always be there to save the day. ❜ Carol gritted out, her eyes training with a faint glow, ❛ But you can be damn sure I’ll avenge them. ❜ Her jaw locked as her fist punched forward with a wave of energy directed straight at him, not once relenting in such power.
“Reconcile our differences?” Ah, such an utopistic belief and nothing but a wonderful dream. Even though, she almost had him back then, right before she sent him back to Hala empty handed. “If you hadn’t had sent me back to Hala, we could have done that. I was willing to change, willing to believe you rather than the regime. But you sent me back. You sent me back with empty hands and a warning of nothing but empty words. This? You made me become this, Carol. Those lives go on your conscience." Those lives and every other life he would take in the future. Carol would always only be the ever present thorn in his sole he had to deal with.
He saw what she was about to do, making it easy to predict as well. It took mere milliseconds to react to the photon blast, a small step to the side was enough to avoid it while the blast hit rocks behind them, blowing them up instantly, the debris falling all around them. "I see you're still a loose canon. It's quite sad to see that after everything I taught you, you still have no control over yourself or your powers. You could have been so much more had you not chosen the wrong side to fight for. It's still not too late, you know."
