I've been on full Nanasis mode since the eos announcement so might as well write something here too. I've been playing for 11 years so it does hurt to see it go, even though the players have been speaking about eos for a solid decade, it wasn't the same after Motegi left and the last year has been especially concerning.
Some reminiscing under cut:
I think the first time I heard of the game was on tumblr actually, I thought the girls looked super cute and wanted to try the game but it might've been for ios only back then, or I just couldn't figure out how to get japanese apps. In spring 2015 I was watching the first episode of Show by Rock where the main character was playing the rhythm game app, which I then went to seek out. After getting the game to work, I remembered 'that something 7 sisters' game that looked cute and was happy to find out I could now play that one too. Next thing I found out was that the game had fantastic songs that were right up my alley (with all due respect to sif who is the mother of all idol taptap games, nanasis music blew it out of the water), even before the most infamous bangers like SEVENTH HAVEN too.
Sui was the girl I was interested in the most in the beginning, but I was converted to Musubism after reading her story chapter. And the rest is history. She's my kamioshi of 11 years.
The game really never became very well known in the west, which was sad because there wasn't much discussion or fanworks, but on the other hand it was kinda nice to have this kind of 'secret' game. I did try to shill it on my main blog by making gifs of the MVs and later the movie, but it didn't really take off. However I have met several treasured mutuals through Nanasis and always had wonderful time chatting about it with them, so maybe you call it quality over quantity.
Nanasis was already plenty special to me before, but then came the 4.0 story where Motegi went just full movie director with the writing and execution, and the result is the best idol story I've exprienced yet. Some might call it melodramatic, but I think it's just right, idol stories are about evoking big feelings after all. The following episodes were just as great and I'm forever grateful that Motegi got to tell the story he wanted to tell to the finish, which can't be taken for granted with neither gacha games and idol media, I think. Made a post about what kind of impact the story has had on me, which I'll just paste here because I'm lazy:
Now post-Motegi Nanasis has obviously not been the same, and it has had its rough moments, but I've tried to keep an open mind with it, and I do think the 2053 story is interesting and fun in its own right. And as a patriot I have to stan our Finnish rep Alina Laisto, never thought I'd see the day when my favorite idol game adds a girl from my country! However, as the eos news came I felt like I had already done half of the mourning process back when Motegi left, and I don't think it's a coincidence that most players seem to reminiscence songs, stories and characters that were from his era.
So what now? I'll be playing until the last day, and hope that Donuts will be able to deliver on the offline version of the app so I can still go check on Musubi on my home screen, and go reread the stories. If not, then I hope there will be at least some sort of official story archive, because the story deserves to not to be forgotten. But I have faith in the passion of my fellow shihainin and their archiving skills, in case that won't work out.
I don't write stuff like this often so I'm gonna finish it off very awkwardly. Thank you Nanasis, thank you Motegi, thank you Musubi, you had a good run.
Just wanted to show off all my useless plastic, that's all.
A close-up of The Musunator in action. I'd dreamed of a proper desktop for a long time and when I finally got around to doing it I decided to go big
Recently swapped the places of my desk and the black shelf, I think it looks a lot better this way.
HiguUmi, Precure and nendoroids. The top shelf has misc tiny figures and a lot of random trinkets like bottles and cans I think look neat. The nendoroid tower is handy for display but it does feel a bit flimsy.
KyoSaya collection and some cool gals. Poor Celty kinda blends in with the dark shelf but you can't really see it in this picture. What you can see is all that dust orz
I first thought about putting stickers on the mirror but ended up hanging charms instead. The Hello Kitty balloon was a birthday present from my niece and nephew that I planned to keep until it deflates but as you can see, she's still standing strong.
Big ass kallax shelf for manga and merch and some occasional normie stuff. Also works as a room divider. I'm always mulling over how to organize it nicely.
The kallax from the other side. Less merch and more manga (+light novels and art books)
The wall of shame on the side of the kallax.
I keep my favorite (and most high-end) figures in these trusty old display cases.
Musubi and Shinju shrine. I'm planning to update my Musubi itabag starting from the base bag, I've had this one since 2018 and feel that it's a bit outdated, especially with my personal style.
Failgirl floor
PSG and Anmi's ballerinas. Panty was my very first scale figure way back in 2012 (old)
Nanoha was my first anime and the Signum scale is probably my favorite figure that I own. Back when I got it I remember thinking something like "is it really ok for me to own this? Am I worthy?"
Sakura has had so many gorgeous figures released after this one but I don't really regret getting this one, she and Shaoran go together so well.
Haven't really been into LL for years but Umi will always have a place in my heart
As well as these two gremlins too
Misc idols, if you recognize them all you're a real one
Finally my favorite angry german kid. I used to have other eva figures too but she chased them out
I love training King Halo I go through hell to A rank her for her to place 5th in team trials while the Bakushin I trained months ago carries. Yet I refuse to give up on being first-rate
There's been a heated discussion about cultural differences in small talk and customer service and I wanted clear up some misunderstandings and exaggerations. Here's a good video that portrays what a normal customer service situation in Finland actually looks like:
If I had a penny for every time a japanese media property has turned Simo Häyhä into a cute anime girl, I'd have two pennies which is surprisingly little actually
