what esoteric, useful features do you find in older versions of MS office products that didn't make it into modern versions?
was there anything they did that should have continued on with newer versions but did not?
They should have continued "buy once own forever" instead of this subscription bullshit. That, and they shouldn't require an Internet connection for things like activation to getting help.
It's not so much of a case of "old versions have better features", it's "new versions change stuff for no reason". I don't like the dialog boxes appearing as sidebars in newer versions, if I right click an object to format it I expect the dialog box to pop up near me, not all the way to the side. Also I never quite got a hang of the ribbon in Publisher, and menus spell functions out better anyway (it took me FOREVER to find out where the format paragraph dialog box was, for example). Also trying to "suggest" what you want to do in ways that seem more invasive than Clippy (who was easily disabled)... no thanks.
Mostly I miss Excel shortcuts when using Excel 5.0 or similar vintage. Office 97 though... yeah I can deal with that a lot easier, especially for word processing. It has everything I need and no uncessary bullshit.
Any recommendations for websites/ apps that we can use instead of acc? I’ve mostly been using it to see what allergens are in the air.
If you're in the US, weather.gov, since most of these guys pull their data from government-sponsored sensors. I don't know if they do allergens specifically (I don't have allergies) but they do have an air quality section that seems the most likely place to look. Their website isn't the most up to date UI-wise but there's certainly a lot of information on it.
If you're not in the US, I guess look to see if your country's government has a similar weather bureau/ministry, I'd be very surprised if they didn't considering how much weather impacts.
have u ran FreeDOS on your PCs? Do you use that or MS-DOS most of the time? I know freedos has a lot of cool stuff like support 4 modern filesystems and built in networking
I don't think I've ever seriously run FreeDOS, if at all... I currently only have one machine that's primarily used for DOS and it's, well, MS-DOS version 5.
(I have a confession. I am much more comfortable in a *nix command line...)

I haven't gotten a chance to actually have a conversation with him because everyone's been trying to talk to him, but yes I have been at VCF Midwests with him in attendance. I think the grand total of our interaction has been him saying "excuse me" and me moving a chair back to get out of his way. I did chat a bit with his brother though, he was cool.
