A few articles have come out since yesterday showing a connection between mononucleosis and MS. In summary, it concludes that 99.9999% of people that have MS have had mononucleosis making it a plausible trigger.
This also means if a person has never had the virus that causes mononucleosis (Epstein-Barr virus) they are not at risk of having MS. The thing is … about 95% of the population is already exposed to this virus, usually in childhood and sometimes they are asymptomatic.
Here’s the thing that has me convinced about this discovery. One month before I had started showing MS symptoms, my boyfriend (now husband) had mononucleosis. He was so bad off that I had to take him to the emergency room. I had thought I was okay because I never had mono symptoms show up it then a month later I was diagnosed with transverse myelitis (which is a precursor to MS) - I feel that this study might be on to something.
What do you all think? Does anyone else have a story that relates?
