Makoto Naegi is Buster Moon:
Makoto owns a theater that is on the verge of going bankrupt, due to his failing shows and plays. However, armed with an optimistic demeanor and a hopeful outlook on life, he manages to come up with an idea to save his beloved theater- a singing competition with a prize of 10,000 dollars!
Even though his assistant, Sayaka Maizono (Who’s been his best friend since 6th grade), misprinted the flyers to say 100,000 dollars instead, he stills keeps on hoping. However, the talent he reigns in is a bonus.
Sayaka Maizono is Ms. Crawley:
Sayaka is Makoto’s assistant that works for him for free and has been his best friend since the beginning of Middle School. As a retired pop star herself- and a retired pianist as well-, she is able to tutor the younger, newer talent in the older ways of music.
However, she has a glass eye, and it’s liable to shoot across the room or simply roll to the floor if she is bumped too hard. She also has a habit of taking Makoto coffee, but drinking ti on her way up the stairs to his office/bedroom.
Chihiro Fujisaki is Meena:
Chihiro is a shy girl that lives in the Suburbs near theater Makoto owns. She auditions for his show, but is too shy to sing, and as such doesn’t get in. However, she is later recruited as a stage hand after helping Makoto attach a cable from a nearby shop that turns back on the theater lights.
Finally, her talent is recognized when she is singing in the ruins of the Naegi theater, when Makoto hears her singing and later puts on a show- without prize money- with her in it. She quite easily brings the house down.
Fuyuhiko Kuzuryuu is Mike:
Fuyuhiko is a street performer with dreams of being a star and a diploma from a high-ranking music school. Armed with a bad attitude and a big voice despite his small height, he isn’t one to be pushed around by onlookers- no matter how he perceives the situation.
He isn’t one to appreciate the other contestants’ talents, and will say so if he feels he should. However, he’s in some debt (Understatement), and he’s constantly being hunted by the gangsters he owes money too- minus the fact that he IS a gangster himself. He has a girlfriend named Peko Pekoyama, and she’s pretty much his getaway driver.
Ibuki Mioda is Ash:
Ibuki is a rockstar going through some hard times with her boyfriend Souda Kazuichi. Ibuki and Souda live together in a penthouse-like apartment and are both fresh out of high school, though they didn’t graduate. They both enter Makoto’s singing competition, but Ibuki is the only one picked to enter the show.
One day, after rehearsal, she goes back to their apartment- where Souda is cheating on her with a blonde girl. She is revealed to be named Sonia, and she promptly throws them both out. After having a good cry with the rest of the contestants, she is able to turn her sadness into a song of her very own, and soon she’s shaking up the show on her own and happier than ever.
Aoi Asahina is Rosita:
Aoi is a mother of 25 with dreams of being a big time singer and finally having a stress outlet from being the only one to hold down the fort.
She joins the competition, and is accepted into the concert- on one condition; She has to sing and dance with Yasuhiro Hagakure, who was picked for his singing and dancing. The only problem is, Aoi isn’t a dancer.
Even though she has 25 kids and a working wife, she manages to still make the rehearsals. She’s having fun, and manages to grow closer to the other contestants- especially her partner, who she forms a fast friendship with.
Yasuhiro Hagakure is Gunter:
Yasuhiro is a dancer with a loud personality and a way of moving his body to a good beat.He is picked to be apart of the competition as well- as long as he is partnered with Aoi Asahina, who is an aspiring singer.
They manage to form a good friendship, and he teaches her to loosen up when singing and dancing. He is very energetic and is often a force to be reckoned with.
Hajime Hinata as Johnny:
Hajime is the son of a well-known criminal, who is being molded to be a criminal right alongside his father’s gang. However, he wants to be a singer- and NOT a gangster.
He joins the competition- both to win the prize money and to realize his dream. However, he has just been given a job as a getaway driver by his father, and doesn’t dare mess it up. Now the only problem is to figure out how he’s going to go to rehearsals AND make the job.
