I am crying right now. Spicy | MSPCC and Masu Sushi & Robata

I was knee-deep in Step 2 CK studying and Mr. Turtle was surviving his final rotation (surgery). We were happy to find a break in a visit to the Minneapolis Comic-Con!

He got to flip through boxes and boxes of comic books, hunting for the classic issues of Spiderman. I got to meet a couple of my favorite artists on Tumblr, and even get their autographs on a few issues of Miss Marvel! It was so much fun watching people in costume. We didn’t dress up but I wore my San Fransokyo Ninjas baseball cap and the writer of Fables asked me about it!

Afterward, we stopped by Masu Sushi & Robata, one of my two favorite Japanese spots in the Cities. I love the sweet miso eggplant appetizer they have here, which is accompanied by a delicately poached egg, thin slices of fragrant jalapeno, and a little tumble of shaved green onion. 

We also got some pork belly buns, the star of which was the sweet and powerful hoisin sauce. 

The banh mi-style pickles of daikon and carrot added some tang to cut through the fattiness of the pork belly, although I would have preferred more of the latter...

The highlight of the meal, in my opinion was the curry ramen, topped with tonkotsu pork: a cutlet of pork that was pounded tender, battered and fried until deeply browned and crispy on the exterior. The broth was silky and rich, as well as deep with the flavor of savory-sweet Japanese curry. 

It was a great day, and a wonderful break to the relative pains of studying and rigors of surgery.

Was going to be visiting my dad tomorrow but he is busy all day
