“Snow Boy” ☃️👦🎩 Been up to a lot of sculpting in this latter half of the year. It has felt like a nice escape from everything. This piece in particular was especially fun, because I didn’t really plan too far ahead and get bogged down by how it should be vs. how it is. 😌😌😌 Originally, this little guy was going to be a winter version of the plant kid I did earlier this year, with a poinsettia growing out of his head and a birch bark-like appearance. “The Reports of His Death Are Slightly Exaggerated” 👻🎃👻 The Art Ghoullery V: Staying Alive annual Masquerade Reception is next Saturday from 6:30 to 8:00 PM! Make sure to mark your calendars and dust off your costumes, because I’m hoping to see you there! 👻🙀☠️ There is a lot going on in this piece, and I don’t want to get into it. So instead, let me explain why I did three different versions. 🙈🙉🙊 Straight up, I didn’t like the compositions. The first one held too tightly to the reference image I crafted within Animal Crossing. Oh, and fun tangent - I sometimes use Animal Crossing to construct general reference images for more domestic settings. But I digress…I held too close to the reference which led to a carryover of the weaknesses within the reference. The second iteration resolved some issues (major thanks to @dualbunny for acting as a sounding board and providing constructive criticism) but ultimately felt unbalanced in my mind. Finally, the third iteration breaks away hard from the first two iterations and, in my opinion, loses a lot of the intentional whimsy in exchange for a much more somber take on playing possum and attending your own funeral. 🤦‍♂️🐀👻 Given another month, I probably would have made a fourth and possible fifth iteration. But there was a deadline that needed to be hit. “Cloudwatchers” 🐰🐰☁️ I’m of mixed emotion as summer closes. On one hand, I still have a handful of adventures I would like to embark on, fueled by the memories of journeys successfully completed. On the other hand, I yearn for the crisp breeze and falling leaves that precedes nature’s long cold nap. Time moves ever forward, however, so the best I can embrace is the reality that I’ll have summer adventures to look forward to in another 8 months.
