I don’t know if I want to study performance. How can I decide?
So this is a big question. How does someone decide if they actually want to get a degree in something as unsure as performance arts. If this is something you’ve asked yourself, all I can really say is a BFA program is not for you. Because of how intense BFA MT programs are, it’s really only worth it if you love it with all your being. However, there are many schools that you can go to and dabble in performing arts. For example, Northwestern’s theatre program is not an audition program, and they encourage double majors. Stay away from conservatories that would make it so every waking moment is full of THEATRE. Ultimately this is a question you have to explore by trying performance, and I would try to do that before applying for schools. Maybe go out for a community theatre or school shows. Whatever you do, it’s all up to you to decide where you want to go with your life.
you know you are a musical theatre student when all of your money goes to dance belts and scripts.
