Mount Beacon and the surrounding Hudson Highlands offer an amazing range of hiking opportunities just a short distance from NYC and accessible by commuter rail. The Mt. Beacon Incline Railway Restoration Society hopes to rebuild the funicular line to the top of the mountain and install a visitors center overlooking a vista of the Hudson Valley so grand that Manhattan is sometimes visible on a clear day.
