Home in God's Favourite Valley
April 14, 2014
This morning i packed my life into a 65L backpack. And a 15L clip-on day pack. And my other backpack. And a small carry bag. Ok, so ive probably packed too much, like any typical girl. But i heard Europe's overall weather can be a bit like Melbourne depending where you are so i need a varied wardrobe ok! Thats what im telling myself anyway. That, and im blaming my uncle for his request of 2 packets of Arnotts Mint Slice biscuits that are clearly taking up half my bag... geez Im a good niece.
2days and counting. wow. My 2 weeks at home have flow by unbelievably quick, considering most days consisted of coffee dates with mum and her friends, and afternoons in front of the telly watching taped episodes of Home and Away that mums catching up on. Lets just say im glad i stopped watching that show at the age of 15 or I'd be battling on with far less braincells than i currently have (sorry mum).
I managed to squeeze in a few activities while home, while the weather held out. Hiking the high plains, climbed Mt Bogong (Victoria's highest mountain), played tourist in nearby valleys taste testing their fine food and beers. I even made the trip down to Melbourne for the weekend to share a goodbye drink with my family and friends.
There seemed to be a theme to the convrsations shared for the weekend, with everyone happy and excited for me, but more interested in laying down the law about returning to Australia depite if i fall head over heels in love with some rich european named Yulio who lives on a yacht....apparently i have to be a "stong aussie women" and drag him back too (and hunt down his brothers and partner them off to my single friends). The timer of 2 years is on and if i have not returned by the 27th April 2016 i fear for the condition of my ears after i am dragged back across the seas by the many members of the Begg family.
So here i sit on our deck, soaking up the sun through my socks, trackies and hoodie, enjoying my last two days in Aus....the excitement continues to build, but in equal amounts so do the nerves!
Thank you to everyone who has wished me well on my adventures, and to all those who made the time to see me in person to say goodbye. I cant wait to share my adventures with you via social media and please dont de-friend me from facebook for making you jealous!
I hope that by living my dreams and jumping outside my comfort zone i can inspire some of you to do the same so you can experience the awe of overseas travel. Dont be afraid to step into the unknown, because in the end we just regret the chances we didnt take :)
