Literature Review
The following literature review will examine four key texts in relation to my photographic project, A Radiated Library. Wolfgang Ernst’s Digital Memory and the Archive; Ernst Van Alphen’s Staging the Archive; Vilem Flusser’s Into the Universe of Technical Images; and Glenn Willumson’s Making Meaning: Displaced Materiality in the Library and Art Museum. The first two texts are important to my work as they pertain to the archive, its changing forms, and ways that it can be photographed and portrayed. The other two works were chosen for their relevance to the notion of materiality, and the photograph as an object.
