MTF Brass AU part 3
“Cap?” Jeffrey said as he knocked on my bedroom door.
“Jeffrey, you can call me Brass. You don’t have to be so formal.” I responded as I sat on my bed. “What do you need?”
“Well... I want to find the Miss as soon as I can,” he said. “So... I think I’m ready.”
“Ready for what?” I asked.
“To give you access to my memories, Brass.” Jeffrey said.
Oh, yeah. That.
I got up and opened the door, allowing him to come inside.
“Thought you wanted to take your time until Tuesday.” I said.
“What day it is?” Jeffrey asked as I closed the door behind us.
I looked at the calendar. Tuesday.
Wow, I’m an idiot.
“Okay, let’s do it.” I said as I stepped close to him. “If you want me to stop, say it.”
“Okay.” Jeffrey said. “Is it gonna hurt?”
“Physically? No.” I answered. “Emotionally? Maybe.”
“Let’s get this started,” he said, as I put my hand behind the ear-area, where his memory card was. “I want to help you find her.”
The way his eyes shined was stunning. He was really hyped for it.
I took a deep breath before accessing his memories.
[MEMORY READING PROCESS BEGINS]
[MEMORY READING PROCESS 1%]
I can see things from his point of view now.
Everything is in shades of bright grey, almost the same one. Hell, how can he see things?
I can see a woman. It’s hard for me to see her face. It’s a good thing Shapey can decode things.
“Good morning, Jeffrey.” she said.
“Good morning.” he answered.
“Please explain your functions.” She requested.
“I can create and manipulate molasses,” he answered. “There’s no need to charge or feed me.”
“Good.” she said, writing something in a notebook.
“May I ask how shall I refer to you as?” he asked.
“You can call me ‘miss’, Jeffrey.” she answered.
“Okay, Miss.” he said.
I try to analyze the room. It’s a bit difficult since the shades of grey are similar, but I can see a picture over the counter. It had the Miss in it, along with five boys. All of their faces were... glitching? That’s... strange.
[MEMORY READING PROCESS 19%]
I can feel Jeffrey shaking a bit under my hand as other memories are playing.
“Do you want me to stop?” I asked.
“N-no. That’s fine.” he answered. “You can keep going.”
In the other memories, more glitching things showed up, but... it was always something that was related to these five boys.
Oh, lord, what did she do?
[MEMORY READING PROCESS 43%]
The miss was talking on her phone. Sometimes when she said something, a high pitched sound was heard, as if she’s slurring on some family-friendly show.
After she finished her conversation with whoever it was on the other side, she threw her phone to the floor. I could see the glass screen breaking as she’s yelling curse words.
“ experiment number 1-” she mumbled. “Subject didn’t survive.”
she grabbed the photograph from the counter and drew a thick stripe over one of the boys’ face.
“Humans are weak beings, aren’t they?” she sighed as she reached over to Jeffrey.
Hol’ up. Did she... Did she do experiments on humans? Is she NOT a human?
“Jeffrey,” she said in a soft voice. “Have you finished filling the tanks with molasses?”
“Yes, miss!” he said. “Did I do a good job?”
“Yes, Jeffrey,” she said as she kissed him on his forehead. “Thank you.”
Jeffrey was shaking under my hand even more.
“If you want me to stop, you can say.” I told him. “We can continue in another day.”
“That’s okay, Brass.” he said.
“If you say so.” I replied.
The memories kept going. Most of them were about Jeffrey’s time making Molasses, some were random phone calls the Miss got, and one of them was the same as THAT phone call, but about “subject 3″.
I wonder what about 2, 4 and 5, and if they know about Jeffrey.
[MEMORY READING PROCESS 98%]
It’s from the day Jeffrey was left alone. I can tell that from the date on the calendar and from my conversations with him.
Jeffrey held my hand tight when this memory began to play.
He was sitting in the living room and the miss was on the phone. He told me he didn’t know what did she say back then, but... I could hear her.
“I don’t know if he’s worth it, doc.” she said. “He’s naive. He’s a moron. He’s needy. No kid would buy something like him. Plus, I need the molasses.”
So she was talking to a doctor who’s selling things for kids? Huh. Just like Wondertainment.
“Look, I might hate him, but I can’t tear him down. Not now.” she continued after a moment of silence. “He’s the one who keeps my research running.”
Another moment of silence. Was she talking about Jeffrey? Does he know anything about it?
“Huh, you’ve got a point.” she finally said. “He would continue making the molasses... even if I’m not there to hear his annoying ass.”
Yup. She was talking about him. How rude!
“I gotcha, homie.” she said. “See you later.”
she hung up the phone and went to the living room.
“Jeffrey, dear,” she said, giving him one of the fakest smiles I’ve ever seen. “I have to go for a while. I’ll be back in a month.”
She lied to him, of course. The foundation found him after four years, still alone.
“Can I come too?” he asked.
“No, sweetie. I need you to stay here and do your job.” she said and kissed his forehead. “I know you’ll do just fine.”
“Okay, Miss!” he said. “Hope you’d enjoy!”
She gave him a smile and went to the door.
“Pathetic.” she whispered to herself before she left.
[MEMORY READING PROCESS IS COMPLETE]
As soon as I opened my eyes, I saw Jeffrey was still shaking.
I pulled him into a hug and kissed his forehead.
“You did great, Jeffrey.” I said. “I’m gonna give the memories to Shapey, okay?”
“Okay, Brass.” he said, head lying on my shoulder. “Thank you.”
“No problem.” I replied. “I want to help you however I can.”
We stayed like this for a while, hugging in silence.
It... it felt nice. Made me feel calmer.
After Jeffrey finally calmed down and let go, I went to Shapey and Chameleon’s lab. I uploaded Jeffrey’s memories on their computer as I told them what I learned.
“Fascinating.” They both said as one when I finished telling them.
“I’d look for more information in the memories,” Shapey said. “Chameleon, use your ‘friends’. See if you can contact the two ‘subjects’.”
“Okay.” Chameleon said.
“We’d keep you updated, Brass.” Shapey said. “You’re officially on this case.”
“Good.” I replied.
“Brass, one more thing.” Chameleon said.
“Yeah?” I asked before leaving.
“Dr. [REDACTED] was looking for you.” Chameleon said. “He said he has a mission for you. It’s about Laugh.”
And just as I was about to rest.
Damn it, [REDACTED].
