currently starting to play magic the gathering again (i’m playing on arena) but i was wondering if people here prefer mtg arena or mtg online? i played a bit of magic in high school so i more or less understand the fundamentals and the basic mechanics/rules. i’m just looking for a second opinion tbh

Bad Experiences in MODO

So I was playing a Competitive Standard League earlier with a homebrewed control deck that I wanted to tune and test against the meta. Everything was going fine until I hit match 3. The game starts out normally, spells slinging back and forth, then on turn 5 I draw a Fragmentize and cast it on my opponent's Panharmonicon. Everything goes downhill from there. They get livid and start verbally assaulting my deck and I, saying that I'm wasting their time by running trash like that main deck while they're trying to practice for tournaments. They repeatedly say I need to stick to the practice room and stay out of the leagues. They end up conceding the match, but the experience has really shaken me. I just don't get why someone would act like that. In a meta where nearly every deck is running 4 of Smuggler's Copter--a card which my deck can struggle against--I don't see a problem with running a card in my maindeck that can deal with it or other artifacts. It's like they expect me to be sorry for brewing my own deck and not just netdecking. I just don't understand why people get like that.

Hearthstone and Magic the Gathering

I've been playing one since I was a child and the other for about 6 months now. Now both have flaws, some of them big ones, but for my playstyle and budget the better of the two is not what you might expect. I hate hearthstone, I've given it a good go and heck I still play it. The system is polished to a high sheen and fills my limited warcraft knowledge up to the point I've now payed for WoW and seen the film (it was good). But the free to play system has some holes for me. I'm a student, with a part time job. I can afford to go online and pay for individual cards I need to make a physical deck in mtg, which I will enjoy playing and will be competitive in my play group. Now what I can't afford is multiple purchases for card packs on hearthstone to make a deck I won't be happy with. Why won't I be happy with it? I don't have the rarer (epic and legendary) cards I need to make it work. On a good day these decks might get me to rank 10, and I'll hate playing them every goddam time because the ones I have that do work are no fun to pilot. There is a thing I find infuriating with H'stone to do with cards too. The weird system where I need cards to make cards. I already said I'm not made of money and find it hard to justify spending large volumes of money on packs for the purpose of dusting them and making a quarter of what I dusted (if that). It would be cheaper to fully make my B/G standard elf deck from scratch, so I did that. Heck I've made working EDH decks for cheaper. This is what I feel hearthstone lacks, the cheaper buy in option that works AND is fun. I've seen articles where people compare H'stone to top tier mtg decks worth hundreds and then claim H'stone is therefore the better (read: cheaper) game, but the reality of mtg doesn't need to be that. I get away with spending maybe £25 for a pre-release when I want to, and then anything I need to spend on individual cards from there. Trust me when I say mtg can be and is affordable!! You don't need to buy into expensive cards all the time, frankly if at all. The best part of mtg for me is also knowing I can walk away at any point, sell however much of my collection I want and get something back for it. That's not something I can do with hearthstone, which maybe makes me tentative to spending money on it, but I kinda see that as a better money management scheme. Then again the mtg online system is awful if you have physical cards and not much money to buy in (hello). And it looks awful too. Which is why for now, H'stone will continue to be installed on my phone and pc because my local game store isn't open 24/7.

Hi all,

I’m looking to feed my habit of playing Magic the Gathering Online by starting a bot farm. I have some equipment and am looking to start Sliver Emperor Bots around August if possible. What advice do you have?
