Last night I was wondering if there was a way to cast Elspeth, Sun’s Champion in Legacy. It seems pretty good in any sort of grindy matchup. But a normal, fair deck like Miracles or Death and Taxes can’t really cast a six mana spell because six mana is a whole lot of mana and Daze and Spell Pierce typically limit the castable spells to 4 mana at the most.
Then I thought about MUD and 12Post. Well, they mainly cast huge spells right? Perhaps there is a way to work their shells into a monowhite version. Here’s an initial list:
Creatures - 4
4 Stoneforge Mystic
Spells - 32
4 Expedition Map
3 Pithing Needle
4 Elspeth, Sun's Champion
4 Batterskull
1 Umezawa's Jitte
1 Argentum Armor
2 Council's Judgment
4 Swords to Plowshares
3 Wrath of God
3 Prophetic Prism
3 Crystal Ball
Lands - 24
4 Cloudpost
4 Glimmerpost
4 Vesuva
2 Ancient Tomb or Remote Farm
10 Plains
While Elspeth is our main plan, we also have Stoneforge Mystic as early game. Maxing out on Batterskulls is the right thing to do since it’s easy to cast with our manabase. Argentum Armor is fetchable with Mystic and can dominate a game (though this is just a wild guess). Prophetic Prism fixes for the 2nd white mana and Crystal Ball is our Top (since we don’t have a whole lot of shuffle effects, Top is kind of bad).
I think the main issue I’d have to solve with this deck is the double white issue. I am unsure if 13-15 mana sources for white is going to be enough to cast Elspeth, Wrath of God, or Council’s Judgment (we could replace this with Oblivion Ring if this is the case, but Abrupt Decay is kind of scary).
Other possible card choices include Ugin, the Spirit Dragon, Karn Liberated, Humility, and Moat, but again, I think the deck needs to be able to solve the double white mana issue first. Maybe adding a little bit of blue for some card draw would be nice...Sphinx’s Revelation sounds great with all the mana we’d be generating :D
My sideboard idea is likely going to be a ton of anti-combo: Trinisphere, Thalia, Guardian of Thraben, Ethersworn Canonist, etc.
