Stormsurge Kraken by Svetlin Velinov
This is what I imagine when this card gets played.
There's tons of great new stuff at ManabaseCrafter.com, like listings for all Commander 2014 cards, filtering by rating/price/category, and more easily searchable pages. Come take a look!
When it was announced that in commander 2014 there would have been a new planeswalker from a known place I've expected to see a character from one of the unpopular planes such as Rabiah or Ulgrotha. Daretti is pretty cool, but could we see in the future planeswalkers from those worlds we're unlikely to see again?
The planeswalkers and other legends in Commander 2014 seem to have been well-received. We’ll definitely be watching reactions as people get their hands on the #MTGC14 decks. In general, the happier something makes people, the more likely we are to try things in a similar space in the future.
Nahiri is fantastic, and so is the story. Much thanks to the creative team and Kelly Digges. I noticed that she is very similar in appearance to Stoneforge Mystic, and not just by being a female Kor, but also her clothes, haircut, and abilities. They are so similar it seems beyond coincidence. Is Stoneforge Mystic supposed to represent Nahiri in some way?
Nahiri was part of a tradition of kor stoneforgers — powerful mages who forge weapons from stone — and that tradition still exists on Zendikar today (which we know as the card Stoneforge Mystic). Nahiri’s (awesome) art by Eric Deschamps was definitely modeled on the art of Worldwake’s Stoneforge Mystic.

Nahiri’s title of “the Lithomancer” relates to this same tradition of stoneforging, and her talents in crafting with stone contributed to the trapping of the Eldrazi on Zendikar along with Ugin and Sorin. In short, Nahiri is the creator of Zendikar’s hedrons.

Is the Commader Ob Nixilis card before he went to Zenidkar, or after the hedron was removed on Duel of the Planeswalkers?
Ob Nixilis of the Black Oath represents him from a long time ago. This card confirms ol’ Nixi was human once. (Not a very nice human, but human.) So this was him before he got de-sparked on Zendikar — and before he became a demon.
So the sequence is:
Ob Nixilis, planeswalker and extremely unkind person, roams the Multiverse.
Becomes a demon at some point, possibly in relation to some kind of less-than-virtuous oath.
He comes to Zendikar centuries ago, lured by its powerful mana. He encounters difficulties with said local mana; has his spark fragmented. Loses ability to planeswalk. Is seriously grumpy.

Becomes further disempowered when someone called Nahiri fuses a small binding hedron into his forehead. Loses even his ability to fly. Insult is added to injury. Becomes even grumpier.
Centuries pass. Other planeswalkers meddle. Eye of Ugin opens. Eldrazi rise.
Later, during the events of Duels of the Planeswalkers 2015, the hedron is removed from Ob Nixilis's forehead so that it can be used to keep the cursed planeswalker-hunter Garruk from gaining any more dark power. The spread of Garruk's curse is halted, for now.
Now freed from the binding hedron, Ob Nixilis has regained his wings -- but not his spark. He remains on Zendikar, studying the power of the hedrons around him, cultivating a growing list of grudges.
Ob Nixilis: Career jerkface.
