Brief: Montreal Comic Con 2016
Ayo Montreal Comiccon this year was- well.
It was chill.
I only went Friday and Saturday because I couldn’t get Sunday off work (and I didn’t even go to work on Sunday anyway, being bedridden with cramps). On Friday I was Thranduil and on Saturday, the Kingdom Hearts version of Cloud. I spent the first day alone and the second with a friend who was Warrior Ariel. (She slayed. Gurl, you slayed.)
Making Thranduil’s robe out of pleather was the most regretful idea I have ever had, but it was worth the sweat (I think/hope) because apparently people liked it! However the laminate separated from the fabric due to my sweating like a bull, and the top I had on underneath was soaked. (Don’t follow these footsteps, children.)
Spending a day alone at con was more peaceful than I expected because I was free to do whatever I wanted – but also a little lonely. I did, however, get the best print EVER, which I absolutely do not regret.
Saturday was great! Besides the fact that the screws on Cloud’s pauldron kept breaking from people bumping into me. (I swear to god those things broke like four times and at one point I gave up and posed sideways.) I had the honour of being asked to be in two separate videos showcasing the con, as well as a booth that wanted to take pictures of the ‘coolest cosplays in the con’ (their words, not mine). (If anyone remembers/knows the name of the booth please message me!) I hope I posed well enough to provide good clips to work with! Links will be posted when they come out.
I also attended the Attack on Titan Musical, put on by Jiyuu Effect. IT WAS HELLA AWESOME. Y’ALL DID SO GREAT AH IF YOU PUT ON ANOTHER PANEL/SHOW/PERFORMANCE AT OTAKUTHON I AM DEFINITELY GOING.
At some point getting stopped every two steps for a picture got tiring, especially given that cramps were coming on, but remembering I was getting stopped because people liked my work made things much better. (The handle of the Buster Sword cracked from the handling, though. Gonna have to fix that.) It also gave me the motivation to finish Cloud’s wing for Otakuthon.
I would have liked to get merch as gifts for friends, but not many things caught my eye that I could also afford. I did get pins, the print, a mug and some bookmarks! Due to budget limits I couldn’t afford autographs or photo ops. I would have liked to attend John’s or Tom’s Q&As, but the first was canceled and the latter I was unable to attend. -sigh-
Hence the highlights of MTLCC this year were: - Awesome cosplays – so many people went all out, it was so great to see them·
- Shopping·
- Having the honour of being asked to be in two videos!
And now, we crack down on the Otakuthon lineup! Progress pictures will be here. This crap is due in three weeks I am going to cry omfg save meee
