Summary: Isidora goes out for a drink and starts to realize her own mortality.
Side Notes: There is some blood in this para.
Isidora’s head was pounding. She was dying and she felt like it. She felt like hell, like she’d been hit by a freight train. She figured she’d go out for a drink before the infection put her on her ass and she wouldn’t be able to drink anymore. She motioned to the bartender to keep the drinks coming. She normally didn’t drink like this, but she didn’t want to feel a thing. She wanted to be numb and forget about everything that was happening. It would take a while for her to get drunk thanks to her werewolf powers. She’d need a lot of strong, straight alcohol. Isidora picked up the shot glass, downing the bourbon.
She kept telling herself one more drink, this is the last one. One last drink.
She glanced at the person who sat next to her. She laughed and shook her head as they brought her a drink. “You’re downing them pretty quickly,” he said.
Isidora shrugged. “Haven’t you heard? The world is ending and I am dying.” She said a small thank you and took the drink. “No se preocupe,
Todos nos estamos muriendo en este momento.” She gave the man a grim smile.
“So I’ve heard,” he said. “What do you want to spend your last days doing?”
“Vodka, por favor, bar tender,” Isidora said. She turned back to her company. “I want to spend my days doing whatever I can to feel alive. Going on some sort of thrilling adventure. Go skydiving. Drive a car at one hundred miles per hour. Crash a wedding.”
“Most people would say spend it with the people they love.” He was intrigued by the woman and her nonchalant attitude.
“When you don’t have family, your answer tends to differ from others,” Isidora said. Her buzzed mind thought of her immediate family. The voice in the back of her head reminded her about the Howlers....and Oliver. “What about you?”
“Spending it with a beautiful woman, of course,” he said.
“You say that and I don’t even know your name.”
“It’s Javier. And you are?”
“Isidora...but my friends call me Izzy,” Isidora said with a smile. She downed the alcohol, now at the point of being able to get through the burning sensation in her throat. The two continued talking through the night, until Isidora felt something drip down her lip.
“Hey, are you okay?” Javier asked.
Isidora put a hand to her mouth, then to her nose. Blood. Dark blood, almost black. She blinked a few times to fight the tears. Despite all the alcohol, she could still make sense of things. The alcohol went through her system quickly. “Tengo que ir.” She pushed the drinks to the side and she grabbed her bag. Her neck was stiff and her head ached. The room was spinning. When the guy tried to help steady her, she used one of the maneuvers that Oliver taught her to fight someone off. She pushed him with so much force that he broke one of the tables.
Her hands were shaking. Her throat was on fire. She walked backwards and ran out of the bar. She looked around at the people walking past her. They gave her an odd look, probably because she looked frantic. Isidora put her hands to her mouth as she coughed up more black blood. She made her way to an alley where she steadied herself against the wall.
Memory loss. Chills. Vomiting. That was what was awaiting her next. Then hallucinations. Muscle pains and blindness. Pain. Fear. Then, eventually death. Isidora took in a deep breath, trying to calm herself down. She leaned against the wall and slid down it so she was sitting. Isidora turned her head to spit out the blood that filled her mouth. “You’re dying, Isidora. You’re dying.” She couldn’t hide it any longer.
Isidora closed her eyes and waited for morning to come. By then, someone found her and called for help.

Infection Testing Catastrophe
written by Justin Constantine
Weeks after the start of what is now known as the Braddock Plague, scientists and doctors fear the potential outcome of this disease. More and more people are being diagnosed with the disease each day as they come into the Medical Center. Beds are filling up and soon, resources will start to dwindle as they are being used faster than they can be restocked. Doctors and nurses are being stretched thin at the hospital as they have asked volunteers to stop coming.
A test was created by local scientists at Mount Prospect University this past week and was used on the first human patients. Unfortunately, the test was inconclusive and also resulted in the deaths of three more patients who were infected and two volunteers who were healthy. As of today, there is still no test to see whether or not you have been infected. Only when you start to show symptoms will doctors be able to potentially diagnose you.
While many symptoms are like other diseases, one notable symptom is black blood. Some people have have not experienced any symptoms that result in black blood. Therefore, it is harder to diagnose those patients. If you are coughing up black blood or have a nose bleed with black blood, please go to the Medical Center immediately.
