Foolish ideas
(From: NMT Evil Angel au) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It hurt. Everything hurt.
Angel was constantly in excruciating pain, both inside of rounds and out. Apparently, even after a round is done, if you had been turned into a ghost, The Corruption will still leave you with injuries, they're just very unnoticeable.
But if you've been killed over and over again, those minor injuries start to pile up, and they no longer become minor.
Angel dreaded every single horrible round. Because every round would be the same.
She would save others, she would get downed herself, and no one would even... look at her. Every single round, without fail, everyone would run right past her, no matter how much she would desperately reach out her hand.
It got to the point where she could barely even save people anymore- she would go completely out of her way to save someone, only for them to completely pass her by a few seconds later once she was downed.
Angel didn't understand. Had she done something wrong? Why were people treating her like this? Sure, she knew she was a bit strange, what with her not really knowing how human life worked and all, but was that really enough for people to hate her? Leave her to die?
She kept trying to save others, to show that she cared, but it somehow never worked.
They still left her to die.
She didn't know what to do. Her injuries were getting worse- her magic could barely work, she walked with a limp, her wings felt numb, and she had just general aches and pains running through every nerve.
"Doctor?" Angel says as she gently knocks on the door (if it could even be called that) to Doctor Mick's room in the storage facility. Angel hears a bunch of shuffling from inside before the massive door gets heaved open. Angel watches as the door partially slides into the ceiling before it gets stopped by Mick holding the bottom.
"Angel? What it is?" Mick asks as he steps out of his room slightly. Angel gives him a slight wave that causes a small grimace to form on her face from the pain of just raising her arm. "It is a pleasure to see you, Mick! I was simply here to inquire your knowledge on a certain subject." "A... certain subject?" Mick tilts his head and looks at Angel with a confused expression. "What is it?"
Angel pauses and tries to think of how to word her question. She looks behind Mick into his room and sees a messy unmade bed, several med kits just lying randomly around, and a desk with an open journal on it. Angel guesses that Mick was probably writing in the journal before she knocked on his door. "I just... you- and others- seem to be... well, I'm not sure how to put it- leaving me behind during rounds?" Angel forces a small smile to try and make herself seem less threatening- she's aware that some people find her a bit frightening, although she cant seem to tell why.
Mick's expression softens as if he was expecting a worse question and was relieved when it was a simple instead. "Oh, right, well, you can save yourself, so I figured it would be better if I grabbed others who couldn't instead."
Angel blinks. "I- What?" Angel chuckles awkwardly. Apparently she couldn't hide her confusion and surprise very well, as Mick's confused expression returns. "Is everything alright, Angel? Am I not supposed to save others?"
Angel struggles to keep her smile up. "You... you assume I can save myself...?" She asks in complete disbelief. Mick seems taken aback. "You- you can, right?" Now it's Mick's turn to chuckle awkwardly.
"I..." Angel takes a step back, and as Mick tries to reach for her, she backs away swiftly. "Yes, I... I can save myself. Let us go with that."
"Angel, wait-" Mick calls out to her as Angel starts walking away. "Angel, please, I- you can save yourself, right? I mean, you're an Angel, you have to be able to-"
"True, and Builderman can simply get us out of here because he's an admin." Angel bites back with more anger in her voice than even she expected. "Angel I-" Mick stutters. "I promise I simply thought you could save yourself- I mean, you know, if an angel cant really save themselves then they're not really an angel, right?" Mick laughs awkwardly before realizing what he just said, and especially realizing how insulting it definitely sounded.
Angel stops walking, and Mick almost bumps into her. Angel stares at Mick with an unreadable emotion in her eyes, the only thing Mick can tell is that she's furious. "What did you just speak towards me?"
Mick takes a cautious step back, and tries to put his hands up to show he's not a threat. It's too late for that "I'm sorry that- that just slipped out, I didn't really mean it-"
"Why does everyone abandon me?" Mick looks at her, confused. "Uh, weren't you just mad about the other thing-?" "Answer me, doctor."
Mick lowers his hands and stares at the ground in shame. How could he possibly tell her the reason while looking right at her? "I... told everyone you could... save yourself." Mick mutters.
Mick still doesn't look up, but he can hear Angel clench her fist. "I see."
Mick hears Angel's footsteps walking away from him, and he squeezes his eyes shut before looking up and reaching out his hand to her. "Angel-" "Be silent, doctor."
Mick stands behind Angel, watching her walk away as his hand stays awkwardly outstretched. He sighs and pulls his hand back. "Dammit..." Mick mutters to no one but himself.
Everyone in the room looks up as Angel steps into the middle of the room and clears her throat. Once Angel sees that she got everyone's attention, she speaks. "It has come to my attention that you all believe I can save myself."
A few people look at each other with confusion before looking back at her. Angel continues. "The problem with that, you see, is that I cannot." Looks of shock and guilt spread over everyone's faces, a few people even muttering out small "what?"'s.
Angel slowly takes off her glove to show her arm and hand, and everyone in the rooms gasps. Angel's arm was covered from the tips of her fingers to a little past her elbows in glitchy blackness. "This is the cause of everyone foolishness. It is almost impossible for me to feel anything I touch."
She puts her glove back on and looks at everyone's expressions. Looks of shock, guilt, confusion, and other emotions Angel can't name.
"Doctor Mick told us you could save yourself and to prioritize others over you..." Tory says quietly. Angel's eye twitches. "I am well aware of that fact. He is just as much of a fool as you all are."
"Angel." Wu speaks up, and Angel looks at him with an expression on her face that isn't quite a glare, but definitely isn't a smile either. "Don't you think you're being a bit harsh to everyone? While we were wrong about you being alright without our help, we did truly believe that. We don't mean to show you any malice."
Angel chuckles slightly, but its a chuckle that sends shivers down several peoples spines. That wasn't the normal lighthearted chuckle everyone was so used to hearing. "I have spent so long trying to protect all of you, save you, and yet you simply believe such a stupid falsehood this quickly? Despite me reaching out for help? You all have never once even attempted to thank me, and instead you decide to let me die!"
Sir Patrick steps forward, and Angel's heart skips a beat, hoping desperately that he'll say something in her favor. What he says makes her expression sour. "Angel, I understand why you are upset, but we all simply believed that you being an angel meant you could save yourself without any external help. Please, do not be upset with us any longer."
Angel stands in the middle of that room for a good while, simply staring daggers into Sir Patrick's helmet. She stares at him long enough for Sir Patrick to shrink in on himself slightly. "I see. Thank you for the knowledge on how you all truly think of me. I will keep this is mind during the next round."
Everyone stares at Angel as she leaves the room.
