Ohh my goodness!! Okay so my friend gave me The Ordinary Princess by M. M. Kaye for my birthday in middle school, and I've adored this book ever since. I think some of that comes from the nostalgia, but it's also just adorable. So basically it's about Princess Amy, the seventh (and traditionally most perfectly beautiful) daughter of the king and queen of Phantasmorania. However, a fairy gifts her with "ordinariness" at her christening, and the court is horrified. Typical suitor shenanigans ensue until Amy decides she's had enough and runs away to live in the forest. It's a bit of a cheesy and cliche romance at times (who am I kidding I love that though), but the author gives Amy agency in her life--she goes out and gets a job at one point, leaves a situation where she was being taken advantage of, all while remaining incredibly kind. It's a very simple story and a quick read, but I just feel like it really shaped who I am to be honest. I always keep it by my bed for when I'm having a hard day or just need a cute story. @muffinthestud
