Anime Spotlight - Mushibugyo

I really enjoyed this anime and only wish I had discovered it when it fist came out as I watched it as I was watching Demon Slayer and they are similar and DS is the stronger series.

In an alternate Feudal Era Japan, giant insects known as "Mushi" started appearing and attacking people 100 years before and since then they bring terror and death to the country. To counter the threat of the Mushi, the Shogunate establishes the City Patrol who acts under the Mushi Magistrate (Mushibugyō) to assemble warriors strong enough to fight them. The story follows Jinbei Tsukishima, a young and cheerful samurai who is the newest member of the City Patrol answering a summon to his father by the Magistrate, but as he is not able to fight anymore, Jinbei takes the burden of protecting Edo from the Mushi in his place. 

I do enjoy alternative retelling of history especially if it involves samurai and sword fights. This series is filled with that as unusual warriors fight of giant invading bugs. Its got goo action and i love the character designs. It does follow the protagonist a little too much and if it was longer Im sure we would have got more back story on the other characters. I was bit in love with Mugai and really wanted to know more about him. Its hard not to compare it to Demon Slayer which is a shame as it it is a fun series with its own ideas and characters.
