Utahime’s lashes fluttered, her awareness surfacing slowly — like she was deciding whether waking up was even worth the effort. His voice reached her first… then the warmth… then the unmistakable realization of exactly where she was.
Her eyes opened halfway, gaze sliding up to meet his — and narrowing just a little when she caught that damned smile.
“…You look entirely too pleased with yourself,” she murmured, voice soft with sleep but edged with familiar sass. “Did your ego need the reassurance that badly?” Still she didn’t move away.
If anything, she shifted slightly closer, settling more comfortably against him before she seemed to realize what she’d done. A faint pause followed — then a quiet huff, like she’d decided to commit rather than retreat.
“…Don’t misunderstand,” she added, lifting her chin a fraction. “You just happen to be conveniently warm. Like an overconfident space heater.”
Her gaze lingered on his face — softer than her words, more thoughtful than teasing alone could explain. “…Though,” she admitted after a beat, voice lowering, “I suppose you’re… tolerable. Like this.”
She paused. Then, faintly smugly added, “So if you move and ruin it, I will hold it against you. For at least a week.” Her fingers lightly caught the fabric near his sleeve — absentminded, barely there.
“…And if you tell anyone I fell asleep on you,” she murmured, lips curving just slightly, “I’ll make sure the next time you lower your guard is significantly more painful.” A quiet breath. “…Now be useful for once and stay still.”
