Ugh, I had forgotten about this one. Back in May (2020), I started this "Blood Swap" Dramione WIP. It's about Draco being Muggleborn, and Hermione a Pureblood.
I have an awful memory though. I just reread a chapter, and excitement flushed in me after reading that it placed the actual Harry Potter character in a story where his parents live (Voldemort being non-existent).
I need to finish this story! 😍
He walked along the busy, narrow corridor, bumping into students who did the same to him. Draco was trying to find an empty compartment, but they were mostly full of people who seemed to already know each other.
Draco finally found what he wanted though and tucked himself into a seat next to the window. He looked out to see if he could spot his parents, but the crowd outside was so congested, he couldn't see them.
He took a breath to settle his nerves and pulled out his wand to practice a spell.
The compartment door slid open then, and a dark headed boy stepped in. "Hope you don't mind," he flashed Draco a smile, "it seems I stepped on the wrong carriage. Too late to change now." He sat down, glancing at Draco's wand. "Say my dad showed me a neat trick-- wanna see it?"
"Sure," Draco permitted, curious what the trick could be.
"Fuchsia!" the boy called out, and Draco felt a mild tickle blanket his entire body before he saw that the hair on his arms had turned pink.
Draco screamed out in horror. "Change it back!" he squeaked.
"Reverso."
Draco exhaled a calming breath once his hair returned back to its near-white colour, grateful to learn that it wasn't a permanent effect.
"Pretty nifty, huh?"
"Yeah," Draco muttered sarcastically. "Fun!"
"So what's your name?"
"I'm Draco Malfoy."
The boy furrowed his eyebrows in thought. "Malfoy sounds familiar," he noted. "But I'm not sure why."
"My family is wealthy. Father invests in start-up companies, and he's quite smart at what he does."
The boy shook his head. "No, that's not it."
"My mother is a singer," Draco supplied. "Everyone knows Narcissa Malfoy."
The boy snapped his fingers. "That's it, my Uncle Sirius is a huge fan of hers! They have the same surname! Well, they did before she married your father anyway."
"I wonder if they're related," Draco mused, heavily interested in this detail.
"Uncle Sirius doesn't seem to think so, but now that you're here, why I bet you must be some distant cousin of his! That's pretty wicked!"
"What's your name anyway?" Draco asked.
"Oh, I'm sorry," the boy chuckled. "I tend to get ahead of myself. I'm Harry Potter. It's nice to meet you, Draco." He held out his hand for Draco to shake.
Draco eyed it cautiously. "Say, you're not going to play any more tricks on me, are you?"
"Well," Harry scratched his head uneasily, "not if you don't like them, I guess. I was only having some fun. Thought it'd be wicked to show everyone."
"I'd prefer to just be at the sidelines of such pranks."
Harry nodded. "Alright then."
Draco, satisfied that Harry agreed to not play another trick on him, took the boy's hand and gave it a shake.
"Excuse me," a quiet voice spoke up at the door. It belonged to a red headed boy. "Can I sit here? Everywhere else is full."
Harry motioned to the seat next to him. "Come in, there's plenty of room for us all-- wanna see a neat trick?"
Ronald Weasley handled Harry's colour changing spell better than Draco had.
"Wicked!" the boy had gasped in awe. "I've only mastered changing the colour of thread!"
A girl with messy, thick hair then popped her head in. "You three wouldn't have seen a missing toad, have you? Neville has lost his!"
"Trevor?!" a boy screeched out from the hall in complete panic. "Please! Watch where you're going! Don't step on my Trevor!"
"Oh, you're doing magic?" the girl lost interest in the search, noticing that the boys all had their wands out. "Let's see it then."
The boys glanced at each other before Draco took out a coin from the pocket of his trousers.
"Spongify!" Draco held the coin above the table and let it go. It fell and bounced a few times before it rolled off the table.
The girl nodded, thoroughly impressed. "That's a Second year spell. Excellent work." She sat down next to him. "I'm Hermione Granger."
"That's my cousin," Ron cut in, making the girl nod. "She knows everything."
"Not everything," Hermione firmly corrected. " Not even close. What's your name?" she directed at Draco.
"Draco Malfoy. Do you also know of my mother? She's a singer; Narcissa Malfoy."
Hermione shook her head. "I've never heard of her, sorry."
"I believe Draco is Muggleborn," Harry informed. "His mother is not known in our world."
Hermione's eyes lit up. "Are you really?!"
Draco gave her a strange look. "Why would being a Muggleborn be so interesting to you?"
"Well," Hermione shifted her weight, getting herself into a better position. "I think a world without magic is absolutely fascinating. How Muggles handle everything without any sort of magic…?" Her eyes went out of focus in blissful thought.
Draco glanced at the boys, finding the girl a bit odd, wondering if he was the only one who thought so. Ron rolled his eyes, having grown up around her, knowing how she was about the Muggle world, and Harry only shrugged, undecided on what he should think about her.
Hermione hastily pulled out of her thoughts, asking, "So, what is the use of a rubber duck anyway?"
