this was never supposed to be personal, it was just football, a preseason game, a headline, a matchup the league could sell:

the champion vs the rookie.

red vs blue.

michael clifford — untouchable, precise, already a legacy.

luke hemmings — calm, unreadable, not playing like he’s supposed to be new.

it should’ve been simple except—luke watched him for years. studied every throw like it meant something. michael watched him once… and couldn’t stop.

no trash talk, no obvious rivalry, just something quieter. worse. a look held too long across the field, a greeting that isn’t returned.

a push that shouldn’t have meant anything—but does, because suddenly it’s not just about the game anymore, it’s about the way admiration starts to feel like a threat, the way respect turns sharp under stadium lights, the way the entire league is watching—and they still can’t look away from each other.

two quarterbacks.

two cities.

one narrative being forced onto them and somewhere between falcons red and titans blue, between what’s expected and what’s real—something breaks and something else starts.
