What if I,, what if I asked for some Muku fluff?? 👉👈 I've been brainrotting over my prince lately. Maybe he's like,, a bit scared in the new relationship?? Like he's not used to hand-holding or cuddles but he really wants to and needs to be assured that he's okay!! (If you want to make it ~deep~ then I'd be okay with him being a sad boy avoiding reader until they reassure him, but feel free to omit that) If that makes sense. I LOVE YOU SOSO MUCH YOU'RE WRITING IS CHEF'S KISS MY MUSE!! ♡♡ ~🌸

author’s note: i thank you for your sweet words, dear 🌸anon. it's quite surprising to be thought of as anyone's muse, i will say. unfortunately, sweet words do nothing to improve the taste of the treat i put out today. i am not quite fond of this one either, as i struggle to write muku in a way that does not fall within the "uwu sad cry boy" he often gets boxed into, and instead try to show some more depth to his character. i rewrote this time and time again, trying to find a happy medium to leave it at. sadly, this seems to be the best i can put out, i hope you enjoy this piece regardless, as i hope the rest of the a3! tag does. i do not personally like it very much though.
Manga had nothing on real life. The relationships Muku had seen portrayed in the pages of his favorite series were so pleasant and sweet and, more importantly, so easy. The protagonists rarely struggled with not knowing what to do next, and their relationships always unfolded with a happy ending. Muku was not this lucky.
He was happy to be in a relationship with you, really, he truly was, but he had no idea how to go about it. You always assured him there was no rush, you could take things at your own pace, but it did little to soothe his worries. The two of you hadn’t been dating for long, so there was little reason for him to be so worked up, but life was not that simple.
Muku’s struggles had come to light just the other night when you had taken the risk of reaching for his hand. You were walking together down Veludo Way, accompanying him on his journey to picking up some groceries for his dorm. Your fingers twitched as your hands crept toward his. However, the second the pads of your fingers made contact with his palm, he practically leaped out of his skin.
“Ah, I’m so sorry,” you apologized, truly not meaning to startle the sweet boy.
“N-no, uh, no it's okay,” he muttered, his face red and his eyes averted. You ended up feeling awful as he completely clammed up and your previous conversation came to a halt.
The two of you had planned on spending some time together tonight, but Muku was hardly even showing his face around you. In fact, over the past few days, you had barely even seen him. Feeling even worse than before, you heaped the blame onto yourself, fearing you had scared him or upset him so much he doesn’t want to be around you.
You sighed, getting up from the couch you were sitting on. You were at the dorm Muku lived in, but he had disappeared into his room again after giving you a brief hello. You felt kind of awkward just hanging around the living room, but you thought you didn’t have any other options. Thankfully, most of his theater mates were cooped up in their rooms as well, so you didn’t have to worry about disturbing them.
Making up your mind, you dragged your heels down to Muku’s room. You figured it couldn’t hurt to apologize for whatever had upset him, and, even though the thought made you feel worse, you were ready to offer to just go home. After softly knocking on the door, you slowly opened it and peeked your head inside.
It looked like his roommate wasn’t home. Muku alone sat in the middle of his room, his favorite mangas strewn out about him. His eyes looked frantic as they looked up at you and you jumped slightly. Your brow creased in worry.
“Muku,…. Is everything alright?” Concern laced your voice.
Muku shifted a bit where he sat before dropping his gaze back down to the series currently in his hands. “I… I’m sorry! I’m so sorry, I’ve been a good-for-nothing host and boyfriend all night. I invited you over and came to hide in my room like some puny, weak, shrimp nobody, all because I was so scared!”
You stepped closer to him, dropping down onto the floor beside him. Your hand came to rest upon his shoulder as you tried to comfort him with your presence. “Scared? Muku, what’s wrong?”
At this point, tears were shining in his eyes.
His hands tightened around the manga within his grasp as his cheeks got redder. His breath hitched for a moment but he still opened his mouth to tell you what had been plaguing him.
“I… I… I know you said we could take things at our own pace but, but I wanted to… I wanted to do things like hold hands and cuddle and… and….” He hiccuped. His voice grew quieter as his eyes bore into the carpet. “I wanted to woo you like a prince but… but I’m just a lousy loser who can’t even treat his partner properly!”
Your heart ached. You looped your arms around his shaking form, drawing him against you. His head rested in the crook of your neck while his tears wetted your collar. The two of you sat like this for a moment, you rocking him back and forth gently.
“Muku,… it’s okay.” He sniffled loudly against your neck, murmuring yet another apology. “I understand, sweetheart. But you’re not some loser. I want to do those things too, Muku, but we can take our time. Neither of us is going anywhere.”
He sniffled quietly again, rubbing at his eyes with his sleeves in a vain attempt to dry his tears. Sheepish, he looked back up at you only to see your eyes wet with tears too. He still felt he had been overdramatic about it, but at least you understood his feelings.
Without another word, he got u for a moment, crossing over to where his school bag lay. He opened it and pulled out a small box full of baked goods. He came and sat next to you once more, handing it to you.
“I got these a few days ago…. I wanted to give you them the other day but….” He trailed off, fidgeting and picking at his sleeves nervously.
Upon opening the box, you were greeted with an assortment of several adorable-looking treats, all of which looked absolutely delicious. You picked one up and tried it, happily turning to offer him a taste. Muku sheepishly took the bite from your hand, blushing all the while.
He picked up one of the mangas scattered around him, one of which you hadn't read yet, and wordlessly asked you to read it with him, to which you nodded. You leaned against his shoulder and, while he blushed even harder, he made no move to push you off.
Muku had beaten himself up over being an adorable couple for days on end, but what he hadn’t realized was that the two of you already were.
