Reflection - Integrative Practice [ Dillon:Navy] - Practical
The duration of this Multiple Worlds assignment has flown by and i’ve enjoyed what i’ve learnt throughout this role. I didn’t know exactly where we’d end up heading and what our final outcome will be in the end. I was a bit nervous about our presentation in front of the studio, however afterwards i believed me and the team pulled through and discussed our own individual process and information clearly to our fellow BCT classmates. I explained my process undergoing the Practical Role and how i approached the subject of ‘Death’, I am glad I worked closely with the Quantitive and Qualitative members in our group assisting me with facts and poetry which directed me on the right route to take in the end.
My Starting pillar was the poem, Thanatopsis by WCB, which lead me to explore natural objects and natures voice and the aftermath of death from a luminescent ambience. Actively speaking, with these ideas, i managed to portray this annotated information through a short video. Furthermore, I focused my attention to Traditional Japanese arts relating to the resurrection of objects from methods and philosophical ideas used in ‘Kintsugi and Wabi Sabi’ methods. I ended up making two videos on me experimenting this technique, the results were gripping. I enjoyed making these short videos and doing these processes and it generated new understanding to my research by physically playing with this. If i had more time in this brief, I would’ve like to explore more on-depth into these traditions, beliefs and culture. The research summed up overall in this group was everywhere however our groups concluded outset involved Katriel’s Homemade Puppet ( pictures up on our blog ). This Cross Disciplinary style (viewing one discipline from the perspective of another) worked well within the group, each choosing our own paths to explore. The knowledge and methods from different roles also formed an Inter-disciplinary act in our brief. We legitimised a point of knowledge in the end not knowing what this was going to be in the beginning and sticked to the objective of looking for the unknown. This Assignment has made me re-think my production techniques and has made me look for that tacit knowledge we don’t see.
