Taking a break from surfing to explore!
We know better than anyone that Sri Lanka has a lot more to offer than just great waves and a tropical climate. Equipped with a stellar combination of scenery, culture and history, a growing focus on sustainable tourism and a more settled society, Sri Lanka is firmly back on the radar for curious travellers seeking unique experiences.
Because there is so much cool stuff to see and do in Sri Lanka, we give you a day off from surfing in the middle of your week stay with us to go off and see the abundance of wildlife, beauty and culture which is amazingly diverse for somewhere so compact. Some of our guests prefer to just kick back around the pool but if you are feeling adventurous on your day off our accommodation providers Talalla Retreat can arrange any number of tours and excursions including trips to Yala National park, Blue whale watching and temple and Tea plantation exploration which is all really interesting and a lot of fun!
Yala National Park is one of the largest national parks in Sri Lanka, and is also known to have the world's highest concentration of Leopards, although spotting them still requires some luck.
In the Indian ocean it's possible to see Blue whales, Bryde´s whales, Sperm whales, Fin whales, sometimes Killer whales, and Common dolphins, Bottlenose dolphins, Spinner dolphins, Risso's dolphins and Striped dolphins. Sometimes you can see turtles and various fish species like Bluefin tuna and flying fish too.
Twenty kilometers north of Tangalla lies the large rock of Mulkirigala, reminiscent in shape to Sigiriya. The rock houses an impressive series of cave temples dating from the third century, similar to those ofDambulla. A mix between Sri Lanka’s two most famous sites, Mulkirigala sounded like a winner.
No matter what your taste or desire from a holiday destination it is very likely that you will find it in Sri Lanka. For a much more detailed run down on this fabulous island nation please visit the Sri Lankan Tourist Board web site and of course you can check out The Lonely Planet too or you can contact us.
