Mulkworms are generally regarded as minor pests. They feed off of magic, and alone they are harmless, but large colonies can majorly disrupt daily life by sucking up all the available magic.
Mulkworms occasionally mature into mutterflies, which feed off of nectar rather than magic (for the most part). Occasionally a mass of mutterflies migrate to more magically dense areas after several generations of feeding reduce the local magical levels.
Mulkwyrms are a common term for mulkworms that grow in the Pathways. In the abundant magical energy available in the Pathways, mulkworms grow to enormous, fluffy sizes, and generally do not mature into a mutterfly. Iterin sometimes shelter near them, as they reduce magical energy around them and weaken the more dangerous inhabitants of the Pathways. Sometimes those from outside of the Pathways will hunt mulkwyrms to harvest the massive amounts of energy they store within their bodies, but it can be dangerous. If injured, or killed incorrectly, a mulkwyrm will release all of its magical energy at once, which can result in corruption of the immediate surroundings.
