Multi-Melee Master
“What’s this?” André pointed to something that looked to him like a sword with a handle that was twice the length of the blade.
Sai glanced over at the weapon resting in its holder. “It’s a naginata.”
“Can I use it?” André reached for it. Sai slapped his hand. “Ow!”
“I have a whole list of reasons why you shouldn’t just go around touching weapons you don’t know, and shouldn’t touch them improperly like that. Let’s start with a question.” Sai crossed his arms. “Do you know how to use that?”
“It’s like a weird spear, so like a spear.” André blinked. Sai waited for him to sift through visions. “I know how to use a spear.”
“No. No it’s not like that at all.” Sai tapped his foot impatiently. “I can have someone demonstrate it for you later. You wanted to see how short swords stand up against katana.”
“Why can’t you just show me now?” Sai wasn’t sure if he should be impressed or upset. André was pouting already. Sai was sure this was some kind of conversational record. “You know how to use it.”
Sai’s face flushed red. His eyes narrowed. “You tell no one that. Not a soul.”
“Um… okay. Okay. I can do that. Why?” André held his hands in front of him, ready to defend or placate whichever came first. Sai turned away.
“Because my father has a son, not a daughter. If someone found out that I’d learned something like that they might look into it. If they look into it they might find other evidence. If they find that it would ruin his life and mine.” Sai suddenly wasn’t in the mood to spar anymore. This was no mood to wield a sword or anything else in anyway. Silence settled in.
“I had no idea.” André moved closer, close enough Sai could feel his body heat. “I won’t tell anyone. I pro- I won’t. I’m sorry I kind of called you a girl.”
“You should be.” Maybe he could salvage this afterall. “Take up your sword and don’t think I won’t go easy on you with mine.”
