oh what is leadership? #covid19diaries
The word ‘leadership’ finally was fated to come to my being. Funny, because it came during #covid19 and I couldn’t help but reflect, grapple and poke on the nature and meaning of a ‘leader.’
Taking a few steps back to give you some context:
I finished doing a community leadership course as part of my local council and we are using our learnings to run a community project together. I put my hand up to be the project ‘leader’ in my design team... On top of this, the term ‘leader’ has been brought up many times in our group... group dynamics... who is driving this...who can help make the decisions...it’s challenging to come to a group consensus when nutting down an idea...
Normally I stay silent and don’t rock the boat. But for the first time - I am liable. I am part of it. I care and so I have to try and make it work for my team members.
Of course, being a leader is hard. I am in awe of many who take initiative like the one running it right now.
Reflect on the REALITY of our state of our world. How about Australia? Leadership in our government? Leadership in our communities? Leadership in our local businesses, non-for-profits, organisations?
Amazing. I can feel many are at work as I am writing this. They are ZOOMING, reaching out to partner with other organisations, planning advocacy campaigns... I can feel all of this work behind the scenes.
Today I embarked on my first Zoom session on ‘Multicultural Leadership...’
I’m head on with this now and I will be walking on this path for a while it seems.
I do not feel comfortable calling myself a leader... all I can say is that I care.
And my mission won’t end until I allow fate and persistence to work together to bring things to light.
Please help push me to keep going.
