Holiday Cover :-(
Sometimes I hate my pregnant-self. Thinking I was superwoman and could just do everything ALL THE TIME. Before I went on maternity leave, it became apparent that I was the only person on the planet who could cover a major project I'd been working on when a colleague of mine went on a 2 week tour of Nevada, USA. "I'll do it, it'll be fine, the baby will be about 10 weeks old by then"... "no honestly, it's no problem at all.. now stop worrying" she said. I wish I could gaffa tape her mouth up and tell her how she'd regret saying that! I'm just a couple of days into the 2 week holiday cover, and I just hate it! As it happens, the baby is being fine, although he's been up to his usual sleep thievery and that is definitely making the 9am start a little more challenging, so whilst I feel guilty for not giving him enough attention during the day, he is to all intents and purposes, happy as Larry. No, it's not that at all, it's how restrictive I'm finding it for my business. It's now 9:30pm and I'm writing this with the boy sat across me having his bedtime feed, I was hoping to write this circa 10 hours ago, but I've just been too busy. I hate that my "proper" job is standing in the way of my dream job! I guess the silver lining is that it's giving me all the motivation I need to get out there and talk to even more people - get more people into my community and start converting community members into customers.
So trying to make the best out of a bad situation and work as efficiently as possible, I'm focussing on quick wins. Using extended Facebook communities to get new people into my customer community and doing a little bit of paid advertising to share a video into my business opportunity community. This week I'll keep it low key and easy to execute, as I have next to no time, but thank goodness for having scheduled daily posts into my Facebook groups so that I don't have to remember to do that too amongst the madness. Consistency is key, so if you can plan that consistency, then all the better!
I think I might bribe the Mr into helping me clear "the dumping ground" and make it into a hospitable working environment, which brings me onto my to do list:
Make an aesthetically pleasing working environment
Buy some sort of calendar/wall planner to properly plan my time
Find a large and very comfortable office chair
Whilst this may seem like a ridiculous thing to write about, I do actually think that in order to think like a professional business owner, you have to act like one, and I'm not sure that Branson made it to the top sat on his sofa in his PJs.
