It’s very late so dunno how many people will see this right now but to every Muslim this does reach,
I’m so, so sorry there has been so much heavy, heartbreaking violence concerning you all leading up to the biggest, holiest holiday on your calendar. You already suffer enough year round due to baseless, senseless bias and racism and blatant Isamphobia, and just days before Ramadan this year we all- the whole world but especially you- are disgraced with the supposed ISIS-affiliated Ariana Grande concert bombing in Manchester, the predominantly Muslim city of Marawi being taken by ISIS that was uncovered by news even in the Philipines themselves, and now two Muslim women, faithful to their god and probably friends on their way to a fun day out to celebrate their holiday or maybe just strangers even to eachother on their way home to their families, verbally assaulted on a train in Portland before watching the men who stood up for them slaughtered.
Every Muslim I know goes through so much from endless exhausting ignorant questions from non-Muslims to infinite microaggressions trying their beliefs and ways of life and downright physical violence. Every day since September 11th 2001 YOU have faced the most backlash out of anyone due to blind fear and hatred and false association that simply did not exist before on the massive scale it does now.
This is your week. You all deserve a blessed, happy Ramadan and to be able to eat again happily with your loved ones on Eid. I’m endlessly sorry that you can’t go even your most important days without a break from the rest of the world, and this is just another reason why you are all so strong and special and human. This holiday is about reflection and appreciation of what we have and take advantage of and I don’t know of any other religion that does so to this scale- seeing you all stay so firm, together, through all of this is the most amazing, beautiful, gracing thing some of us will ever be there to witness.
I realize how dangerous it is to trust non-Muslims without question, especially those of us who are white, and so I will not ask you to accept anything but to know that we stand with you as well. There will always be another human being who will do what it takes to support what’s right when it really counts. I wish you all a safe, happy, blessed Ramadan and Eid and please remember there are people who love you as does Allah. Please stay safe all.
