FINAL PIMP MY ... MURDER DOCUMENTARIES IMAGE - This is the image I decided to present as my final, finished one. I ended up shooting this on a film camera which I think captures the rough, obsessive feel I wanted it to have. The colours are softer and the edges more blurred which I couldn’t achieve with the digital photos I took. The light balances well and the dark shadows are indicative drama and intrigue. The shadows created also reflect this and hint at the crime scene board on the walls - but isn’t so obvious and cliche as my previous digital photos had been. I like the colour and subtlety of the whole composition.
I tried out different ways to ‘Pimp’ my interest as I want the final image to evocative and enticing. I liked using light in new ways and it really helped me expand my knowledge of what is possible with staged photography. I created the set out of my research into the serial killer Ted Bundy and used TV’s to light it. I though the blue light and the reflective pen worked well and created a different quality to the photo that set it apart a bit more. Feedback I got was I should build the set even more to make it seem more crazy and less controlled. I was to now make something that seems more like a hoarder - more of a mess and less organised. I also found using a bigger contrast in light will help project the feelings of obsessiveness.
PIMP MY ... MURDER DOCUMENTARIES - I started doing a large amount of research into my subject as the psychological side to the crimes interests me a lot. I looked at forensic investigation and key murders that affected the way criminals are profiled. This all was in a attempt to see how I could visualise my interest to create a final image. What I discovered in doing this was the obsessive quality the research had, it was more me in the act of learning that produced a interesting image. I went on to capture this, the dramatic contrast in light emphasised a extremity in the fanatical behaviour. I will try and incorporate this feeling in my final image and how I develop the project.
My Favourite Murder - ‘Pimp My’ MURDER DOCUMENTARIES I made this video to present my interest. I wanted to make this exciting and accesible to my audience so ended up going to court to see a murder case at the Old Bailey.
