Jubal Valentine (FBI/Daredevil AU) - Chapter 1
As an FBI agent, the possibility of getting kidnapped was always there.
He probably shouldn’t have been surprised.
The ache in his head was the first thing he processed. The woman zip tied next to him was the other.
“Great, you're finally awake.
Her hands were bound to a pipe and he assumed she was a hostage, but she made one clean swiping motion against the pipe and the ties snapped right off.
“I needed to wait for the two henchmen to leave.”
OA groaned, turning over on his side as he used the wall to steady himself.
“You’re bleeding.”
He straightened, touching his forehead that was indeed bleeding.
“You’ll be fine, probably won’t even need stitches. Now that you’re up and about, we need to go.”
He was still trying to gather his bearings, that’s why instinctively he reached for his gun, but it was missing.
“They took it, and they’ll be back. We need to go.”
Your voice sounded stern.
“Who are you?”
Now that he was fully alert, he took in your appearance. You were wearing a suit, if he had to guess, you must have been a lawyer. Completely normal except you were wearing sunglasses inside this abandoned building you were both being held in.
“I’m a lawyer, the name is-”
You paused abruptly and OA was confused as to why you were now facing the door and touching the wall.
“They’re coming back.”
“What? There’s no one out there.”
He couldn’t hear anyone.
You just cursed, and he saw you move to the back to grab something. Apparently tools to defend yourself. You picked up a piece of pipe, and he was mid syllable when the door flew open. He flinched, ready to defend, but you threw the pipe and it struck your attacker right in the center of his head, knocking him out. His gun dropped and OA gaped as you sprinted over, grabbing the gun.
“Get down.”
It was an order, one he reacted to when you fired two shots and he heard a grunt outside of the open door. You lowered your hand, then turned your head to the left as if you were listening for more people. The man you shot was groaning on the ground and OA stepped outside, grabbing the gun he once held.
OA turned left and right, surveying for more people.
“You can relax, it was just two of them.”
You kneeled next to the wounded man, sliding your hand in his pocket as you pulled out his phone. Once you had it, you held it out to OA.
“Better call the calvary.”
You could feel his gaze, and he finally relaxed, stepping forward and taking the phone. You just smiled as you slipped the gun into the back of your pants.
It took about five minutes for the place to be crawling with feds. OA was in the ambulance getting his head checked as the officers carried away the two criminals.
“It’s better than I expected, you won’t even need stitches.”
The paramedic assured.
OA gave a grateful smile as the man walked off and you just grinned.
“Told you.”
His gaze moved to you. At first he assumed you were just a well prepared lawyer, but a lot of things just didn’t make sense. You were strangely calm for someone being held hostage. He meant to question it, but Maggie and Jubal walked over, both wearing relieved smiles.
“We’re glad you’re okay. When we lost connection we weren’t sure what to think.” Maggie spoke. Jubal nodded, giving OA a pat as he turned to you.
“I believe this is for you.”
He reached into his back pocket and you smiled in thanks when he handed you the folded cane.
“Thank you.”
You opened in and OA was dumbfounded.
“You’re blind!”
“Sure am. I’m (Y/N) Murdock. It’s nice to meet you.”
For a moment he thought it was all a prank, but the minute they made it back to headquarters, well everything was explained.
“We appreciate the assistance Ms. Murdock.”
Isobel was always grateful for a rescue, especially when her agents were involved.
You shook her hand with a nod.
“Thank you for looking after my client. I know you took a lot of heat for delaying the arrest, but I knew she was innocent. Now we have proof.”
Isobelle nodded.
OA was still trying to wrap his head around the situation.
“Why is no one else surprised that you’re blind?”
You placed your hand over your chest with an exaggerated gasp.
“I didn’t realize you were so against disabled people, Agent Zidan. I might have misjudged your character.”
He stammered and you laughed playfully.
Jubal was grinning.
“Murdock is a bit of a wild card. She’s one of the best. She took down one of the biggest Kingpin’s in Hell’s Kitchen.”
You nod.
“Chasing a criminal like that requires a certain set of skills. Especially with how many cops he had on the payroll. The guys I let grab me were child’s play compared to him.” You leaned against his desk, cane folded under your arm.
“Excuse me, you let them grab you?”
“I did. I purposely went to the auto shop to ask questions because I know the mechanic there was in on it. The murder, the drugs, he was tied in. If he thought someone was snooping I knew they would get rid of the problem the same way they did with our victim, after they interrogated me of course. No one was talking, so I needed live bait. “
He couldn’t believe it.
“I didn’t think they would grab a cop, much less an FBI Agent. You sort of skewed my plans, and I didn’t exactly have the manpower to keep you safe and fight them off. I’m glad you woke up sooner rather than later. I had a feeling they were going to off us both and cut their losses.”
OA just took a seat. Because the whole thing felt like a comedy show.
“Regardless of what happened, we have the footage, and that man you shot in the kneecap is out of surgery. He agreed to talk if we kept him out of Max.” Isobel informs.
You smile.
“See, so it was a win for everyone. You’re alive, my client is innocent and I’ll make it home in time to watch my favorite tv show.”
OA quirked a brow, and Maggie seemed amused.
“See what I did there, blind joke.”
You were still smiling. You didn’t get a laugh from OA though.
“Tough crowd. Well thank you again. I need to check in with Amy.”
You moved off the desk, opening the cane.
“Glad you’re okay Agent Zidan. Hopefully the next time we meet it’s not in a hostage situation.”
You gave a wave in their direction, walking off and OA’s eyes were trained on you until the point that you were out of sight.
“Funny woman.” Jubal spoke.
Isobel just gave a smile as she excused herself, Jubal following behind. Maggie took a seat next to OA who ran a hand down his tie, still wearing a comprehensive look.
“What’s up?”
He shook his head, letting out a laugh.
“She was messing with me, she had to be.”
Maggie’s brows furrowed.
“What do you mean?”
“Maggie, there’s no way she’s blind.”
Maggie laughs.
“Trust me, she’s blind OA.”
He shook his head, adamant.
“It’s not possible Maggie, you should have seen the way she moved. She knew those guys were coming before they were even in the room and she took both of them down like it was some kind of chore. She didn’t even break a sweat.”
“She’s trained in different arts. That has to be it. Given her situation, you can’t really blame her for learning how to defend herself.”
It still looked as though he was trying to solve some mystery, and Maggie gave him a pat on the shoulder.
“Don’t worry, you’ll save the day next time OA.”
“Hah, hilarious.”
She laughed walking away, and he found himself laughing as he leaned back in his chair, going over the very crazy day he had.
