Him. He fit the bill; clothes that weren’t Ark-made, a wariness around the people she knew were Ark-ers, and most importantly: she didn’t know him. It was a feeling she was slowly accustoming herself too, but it still gave her a little thrill when she saw a face she hadn’t ever seen before. Working in Gov-Sci, and living in Agro, there were few people she hadn’t at least passed in the hall from time to time, and being met with so many new and unfamiliar faces was an out-of-body experience.
She marched up to him, holding out a hand. “Clare Jordan. You’re one of these ‘Mountain people’, yes?” A bit forward maybe, but if Clare had learned one thing in life, it was that you hardly got anywhere beating around the bush. Better to speak your mind, say exactly what you knew or needed, and you’d get your answer that much faster.
Besides, she was awful at small talk anyway.
